Ergonomics in Asia: Development, Opportunities and Challenges by Yuh-Chuan Shih,Sheau-Farn Max Liang,Yu-Hsing Huang,Yu-Cheng Lin,Chih-Long Lin Pdf

For the past decade, the rapid development of the ergonomics disciplines as well as the fast growing economy in the Asian region have been attracting the attention of the international ergonomics community. Although East Asia has been changing from a traditional agriculture-oriented society into a modern industry-oriented society and its economy covers a great deal of shared interests across the continents, yet the ergonomics related knowledge and practice are still in its infancy. Because of the geographic proximity and a strong historical, cultural and technology affinity, it is vitally important to maintain good communication and cooperation among the individuals as well as among the ergonomics organizations in the region. This symposium, EAEFS, has provided supporting ergonomics organizations and interested participants a forum to exchange ideas, build friendship, foster greater understanding of and among these individuals and organizations, and develop perspectives concerning ergonomics issues in this region and beyond. This volume contains the selected papers presented at the Second East Asian Ergonomics Federation Symposium (EAEFS), held from October 4 - 8, 2011 at the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. The Second EAEFS, endorsed by the International Ergonomics Association (IEA), aims to consolidate the established ties within East Asia and to extend the cooperation among ergonomics researchers, professionals, and practitioners in the region to other regions in Asia and the world. Senior scholars and leaders from Asian countries have shared their wisdom, experience, insights, and visions on past, current and future ergonomics efforts in Asia. The papers contributing to this book address the latest research and application in accordance with the theme of the symposium, "Ergonomics in Asia: Development, Opportunities and Challenges," and cover the following areas: Virtual Environments & Design, Aging & Work Ability, Usability & Interface, Biomechanics & Anthropometry, and Occupational Safety & Health.

Constructive Ergonomics by Pierre Falzon Pdf

The goal for ergonomics has always been to adapt work, work environments, and machines to humans. But is this goal still sufficient? Does it satisfy the needs of the individual or of societies and organizations as they operate now? Constructive Ergonomics provides an answer to these questions. Rooted both in the academic world and in the world of p

International Encyclopedia of Ergonomics and Human Factors, Second Edition - 3 Volume Set by Waldemar Karwowski Pdf

The previous edition of the International Encyclopedia of Ergonomics and Human Factors made history as the first unified source of reliable information drawn from many realms of science and technology and created specifically with ergonomics professionals in mind. It was also a winner of the Best Reference Award 2002 from the Engineering Libraries Division, American Society of Engineering Education, USA, and the Outstanding Academic Title 2002 from Choice Magazine. Not content to rest on his laurels, human factors and ergonomics expert Professor Waldemar Karwowski has overhauled his standard-setting resource, incorporating coverage of tried and true methods, fundamental principles, and major paradigm shifts in philosophy, thought, and design. Demonstrating the truly interdisciplinary nature of this field, these changes make the second edition even more comprehensive, more informative, more, in a word, encyclopedic. Keeping the format popularized by the first edition, the new edition has been completely revised and updated. Divided into 13 sections and organized alphabetically within each section, the entries provide a clear and simple outline of the topics as well as precise and practical information. The book reviews applications, tools, and innovative concepts related to ergonomic research. Technical terms are defined (where possible) within entries as well as in a glossary. Students and professionals will find this format invaluable, whether they have ergonomics, engineering, computing, or psychology backgrounds. Experts and researchers will also find it an excellent source of information on areas beyond the range of their direct interests.

Moving the Construction Safety Climate Forward in Developing Countries by Tchad Sharon Jatau,Fidelis Emuze,John Smallwood Pdf

The construction industry in developing economies is responsible for creating deliverables such as infrastructure and housing while providing a means of livelihood to an ever-increasing number of management and frontline workers. However, in many parts of the world, injuries and fatalities have continued to damage the industry’s image. This book intends to meet the needs of many construction managers who, though technically informed, struggle with managing frontline workers, especially regarding motivating positive safety outcomes. It discusses the challenges experienced in the industry and how site management may navigate them to improve safety performance in the workplace. By documenting the experiences of site management in developing countries, this book intends to contribute to the education of professionals on evolving better safety environments on construction sites. It considers the safety climate in a high-risk work environment, administrative procedures and the implementation mechanisms. The book also documents findings from existing literature about developing countries in contrast to what is obtainable in developed countries. Each chapter features context-specific explanations from empirical research conducted in developing countries. Key safety climate issues are contextualised, considering the challenges faced in developing countries, alongside current trends that will help chart future directions that will promote continuous improvement of safety outcomes of construction projects. This book is essential reading for construction managers, researchers and academics in the field of safety management, infrastructure delivery and project management.

Ergonomics, Health and Safety by W. Singleton,J. Dirkx Pdf

The following chapters represent a cross-section of current thinking and action in the related fields of Ergonomics, Health and Safety. Inevitably, there is extensive overlap between these three topics. Ergonomics by definition is concerned with the world of work in its broadest sense, that is purposeful activity, there is often an associated monetary gain but this is not an essential aspect; domestic activity and road transport are amongst the obvious exceptions. Health in this context means largely occupational health. Safety is occupational safety with a related excursion into road safety. All this is very much in line with the career of Professor Paul Verhaegen, the inspirer of this volume. Originally trained in medicine, his interests were and are in health, safety and working efficiency within occupational settings, including the effects of cultural differences, a more specialized interest engendered by his long residence in what used to be the Belgian Congo.
