Essential Obstetric Practice by G.J. Amiel Pdf

Advances in research, knowledge and clinical practice in all branches of medicine have been rapid over the past decades and the speed is accelerating. Thus, as we enter the 1980s the pressure on specialists is to concentrate on ever-narrowing fields of their science. For the research worker this is desirable, but the practising clinician Our patient is a whole can have no clearly defined dividing lines. individual and every aspect of her makeup, physical and psychological, must always be taken fully into account. This is of vital importance in obstetrics and gynaecology. These two closely inter woven disciplines are branches of medical science in which emergency situations are not uncommon. Thus every practitioner, doctor, mid wife and nurse needs understanding of these subjects. Although tech nology advances rapidly, many basic principles remain the same. The chapters that follow deal with these, and modern trends in clinical management are discussed. For some decades the author has been in clinical charge of a matern ity hospital some 12 miles south of Central London. The hospital is a training school for obstetricians and midwives, and the local popula tion is adequately supplied with a general practitioner service. These circumstances are of some relevance because many views expressed are based on personal experience while others are based on countless books, articles, congresses and discussion with colleagues. To every source of information I express my thanks.

Essential Obstetrics by J.A. Chalmers Pdf

In writing this book I have attempted to follow the gen eral pattern of the lectures which I have given to pupil midwives at Worcester Royal Infirmary for the past 21 years. In hospital it has been possible to illustrate what I have had to discuss by reference to cases at present in the wards. This unfortunately is not possible to the same extent in a book, but I have no doubt that my readers will be able to apply the principles described to cases under their care. I am sure that this is a most helpful way of fixing in one's mind the information which is required not only for examination purposes but so much more importantly for the better understanding of the clinical problems with which one is faced, and for the purpose of bringing to them the best possible management. The chapter headings and the arrangement of the chapter content may be regarded as unorthodox, but I have presented the topics in the way in which they seem to me to arise in clinical practice. This, I hope, will make easier the understanding of all aspects of a problem. [ have tried to avoid duplication, and when a topic appears in more than one place, it does so in order to discuss its relevance in a differ ent context. Cross-references have been used throughout the text, in order to facilitate reference to the other facts of importance.

Emergency Department Management of Obstetric Complications by Joelle Borhart Pdf

Obstetrical emergencies can be among the most stressful events an emergency physician will face in their entire career. The purpose of this book is to provide an evidence-based, practical approach to the wide spectrum of obstetric complications an emergency physician must be prepared to manage throughout all trimesters pregnancy as well as postpartum, including complications of assisted reproductive technology, bleeding, precipitous delivery and preterm labor. Clinical pearls and pitfalls are highlighted throughout. The approach to the pregnant patient with trauma, non-pregnancy-related abdominal pain, or in cardiac arrest is discussed. Updates in the classification and management of the hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are presented. Recent controversies surrounding the use of anti-emetics for first trimester nausea and vomiting and the use of a beta-hCG discriminatory zone for the evaluation of pregnancy of unknown location are also addressed. Obstetrical support services vary widely between different facilities, and Emergency Department Management of Obstetric Complications is written for emergency clinicians in all practice settings. This book provides useful information for daily practice as well as preparation for rarely encountered and potentially life-threatening events.

Medical Disorders in Obstetric Practice by Michael De Swiet Pdf

Obstetricians must have a firm grounding in the diagnosis and management of diseases affecting pregnant women as in some cases these may threaten the life of mother or baby or both. This book still remains the standard reference work on medical disorders in obstetric practice in the UK and UK-influenced areas such as the former Commonwealth. Exhaustive in its coverage, it provides clear practical advice on the major medical disorders the obstetrician is likely to encounter. Each chapter reviews the pathophysiology of a complaint then applies the physiological and pathophysiological changes to the problem of diagnosis and management of the disorder as well as giving clear guidance on the welfare of the unborn One of the major strengths of the book is that each chapter teaches the principles of care and gives an appreciation of the natural history of the disease rather than just the facts. Although a scholarly and rigourous account it manages to point out the clinically relevant information that the practising obstetrician will actually need.
