The engraving of Christ in man's heart by Archimandrite Zacharias Zacharou Pdf

«… The words that proceed from the mouth of God, either through the Prophets or the Apostles, or the Holy Fathers who were well-pleasing to God throughout the centuries, cannot but make known the attributes of the Living Lord. They reveal His almighty power, the majesty of His holiness, His wisdom, and above all, the greater love of the Son of Love, Who, ‘while we were yet sinners, died for us’. The word of the Lord portrays our archetype who is the Son and Word of God, in Whose image we were created in the beginning. Νot only does the energy of the word of the Lord portray the archetype and reveal the pre-eternal Council of God concerning man, but it also exposes the pitiful distortion of man after the fall. Man finds his truth not in comparing himself with other mortals, but in his presentation before the Lord Who speaks in his heart… Who is he, however, who will hear the voice of Christ, the Word Giver, who will see His form, and will not be changed and will not repent or alter his path? Who is he who will taste of the words of the Almighty Jesus and not burn until the end with gratitude? Who is he to whom the Lord will entrust the words of His Father, and who will not love Him until the end, even unto self-hatred?»

Purr Prints of the Heart by Deborah Anne Barnes Pdf

Deborah and her beloved cat Ragdoll cat, Mr. Jazz, spent a lifetime together. The bond they shared was special - he was her companion through the best and worst of it all. So when the inevitable happened - the realization he was dying at 15 years of age and she would have to face the painful and difficult decision of helping to let him go, their relationship changed, causing Deborah to learn some invaluable lessons from him about life, love, grieving, and letting go. Told by Mr. Jazz himself, an ordinary cat by his own admission, Purr Prints of the Heart is a touching meow-memoir that will strike a chord with anyone whose heart carries paw-prints of love as he shares the story of his life from kitten hood to his final days on earth in the physical sense. Cleverly written in cat likeness with incredible insight, candor, charm, wisdom, and humor, Mr. Jazz takes the reader on a journey that is like a salve in book form to offer comfort to all who have had to deal with (or will have to deal with), the inevitable loss of a beloved pet. Replete with memorable moments of anticipation, outbursts of laughter, sighs of relief, sheer joy, and throes of grief, Mr. Jazz, carries a conversation with readers, putting them in real-life situations they can easily relate to and empathize with - from his days as a kitten that nobody wanted, to finally being adopted into a loving human and animal filled family that had its share of ups and downs, to his final months whereby his health was declining and he had to deal with things like frequent visits to the vet, being force fed food, resentment issues, litter issues, and the finality of coming to terms with the fact he was dying and needing to convince his beloved humans to let him go . The ending is a welcoming upturn, a refreshing reminder of the celebration of life and the indelible purr prints cats leave on our hearts and includes an invaluable "Coping With Pet Loss" section to help readers on all levels - emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and even physically to empower themselves with ways to positively honor the journey of the pet lost as well as ways to find the strength to heal and mend a broken heart.

The Art of Philosophy by Susanna Berger Pdf

Delving into the intersections between artistic images and philosophical knowledge in Europe from the late sixteenth to the early eighteenth centuries, The Art of Philosophy shows that the making and study of visual art functioned as important methods of philosophical thinking and instruction. From frontispieces of books to monumental prints created by philosophers in collaboration with renowned artists, Susanna Berger examines visual representations of philosophy and overturns prevailing assumptions about the limited function of the visual in European intellectual history. Rather than merely illustrating already existing philosophical concepts, visual images generated new knowledge for both Aristotelian thinkers and anti-Aristotelians, such as Descartes and Hobbes. Printmaking and drawing played a decisive role in discoveries that led to a move away from the authority of Aristotle in the seventeenth century. Berger interprets visual art from printed books, student lecture notebooks, alba amicorum (friendship albums), broadsides, and paintings, and examines the work of such artists as Pietro Testa, Léonard Gaultier, Abraham Bosse, Dürer, and Rembrandt. In particular, she focuses on the rise and decline of the "plural image," a genre that was popular among early modern philosophers. Plural images brought multiple images together on the same page, often in order to visualize systems of logic, metaphysics, natural philosophy, or moral philosophy. Featuring previously unpublished prints and drawings from the early modern period and lavish gatefolds, The Art of Philosophy reveals the essential connections between visual commentary and philosophical thought.

Etchings of the Heart by Giovanna Sclafani Pdf

Giovanna is a free-lance writer and a published author of her new book, Etchings of the Heart and dreams and visions of love. This book is a result of six years of purging her soul through writing that gave way to a wondrous spiritual awakening, after a series of events beginning with the death of her father and a downward spiraling of her personal life that enabled her to see that everything in life happens for a reason. When you reach rock bottom, there is nowhere to go but up. says Giovanna Her book delves into the mysteries of life including dj vu and psychic visions and dreams. The intertwining of modern poetry with mythical characters and legends makes it ethereal and enthralling! Her fantastic view of love is reminiscent of the great love poets of old. We need a revival of great love poetry again says Giovanna. I guess I am a hopeless romantic with my moon being in Venus I believe that our sun and moon signs play a significant role in our lives. This book is a unique book of poetry, as it is a quintessential array of poetry from the heart; thus came the title Etchings of the heart Giovanna said my friends in my poetry group on writers caf and Marys Bridge, all agreed that my poems came straight from my heart and I have to agree. There are all kinds of love that I write about. There is love of family, friends, romantic love, pets, nature, and God. In all love there is beauty to be found. I also write about the paradox of love which consists of Love vs. hate or Agony and ecstasy: both sides of a fiery sword. In her poem Never was a day, Giovanna writes: for never was a day, when there was sunshine, without rain, and for love to exist without pain.

The Country Where My Heart Is by Alasdair Brooks,Natascha Mehler Pdf

"Much needed. Fills an existing gap in the historical period with a wide range of examples from all over the world."--Margarita Díaz-Andreu, author of A World History of Nineteenth-Century Archaeology: Nationalism, Colonialism, and the Past "Provides new, nuanced perspectives that will inspire studies in the materiality of identity creation and transformation in the past and its role in heritage creation in the present."--Stephen A. Brighton, author of Historical Archaeology of the Irish Diaspora: A Transnational Approach "Thoughtful, challenging, and original. Expands the spatial and temporal parameters of the growing literature on nationalism and national identity."--Philip L. Kohl, coeditor of Selective Remembrances: Archaeology in the Construction, Commemoration, and Consecration of National Pasts The Country Where My Heart Is explores the archaeology of the period during which modern nationalism developed. While much of the previous research has focused on how governments and other institutions manipulate the archaeology of the distant past for ideological reasons, the contributors to this volume articulate what material artifacts of the modern world can reveal about the rise and fall of modern nationalism and national identities. They explore themes of colonialism, religion, political power and struggle, mythmaking, and the formation of heritage and memory not only in modern nation-states but also in places where the geographical boundaries of a "homeland" are harder to draw. Featuring case studies from northwestern and Central Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Americas, the essays examine how historical archaeology informs the concept of national identity and the formation of the modern nation and how this identity is intimately and inseparably entangled with, yet still distinct from, ethnicity and race. Alasdair Brooks, honorary visiting fellow at the University of Leicester, is the editor of The Importance of British Material Culture to Historical Archaeologies of the Nineteenth Century. Natascha Mehler, senior researcher at the German Maritime Museum and honorary reader at the University of the Highlands and Islands, Scotland, is the editor of Historical Archaeology in Central Europe.
