Super-Organic Evolution by Enrique Lluria Pdf

Excerpt from Super-Organic Evolution: Nature and the Social Problem Dr Lluria has been so good as to class me as an expert in matters of sociology, and has invited me to express my opinion on the present work, which treats of the anthropological causes of the so-called social question. Such a request places me in considerable difficulty, since, not being conversant with the science created by A. Comte, and developed by H. Spencer, I have studied very little, or rather I have not had time to study, the moral and intellectual evolution of man, considered in relation to society and the State. A worker bee of the great human hive, I have confined myself chiefly to gathering honey in the garden of Nature, in order to build my small individual cell, leaving others, with the eagle's vision and powers of concentration, to trace the perspective and found the philosophy of a common labour, marking the future routes of the human swarm. It expounds on the relationship between social condition and individuality, as under what social condition can individualism emerge and determines the relationship between mechanical and organic solidarity. Mechanical solidary is a form of social ties in traditional societies composed of small clans. Organic solidarity is a relationship in modern society where people are distant from societal norms, values, and morals. However, people are connected with bonds of organic solidarity. Modern societies have sought to understand how individuals live together in dense settings. Durkheim explains how the division of labor, social order, and solidarity are maintained. Solidarity is the connections between individuals, allowing the creation of a cohesive social unit or collective consciousness.

Evolution and Social Life by Tim Ingold Pdf

Evolution is among the most central and most contested of ideas in the history of anthropology. This book charts the fortunes of the idea from the mid-nineteenth century to recent times. By comparing biological, historical, and anthropological approaches to the study of human culture and social life, it lays the foundation for their effective synthesis. Far ahead of its time when first published, the book anticipates debates at the forefront of contemporary thinking. Revisiting the work after almost thirty years, Tim Ingold offers a substantial new preface that describes how the book came to be written, how it was received and its bearing on later developments. Unique in scope and breadth of theoretical vision, Evolution and Social Life cuts across the boundaries of natural science and the humanities to provide a major contribution both to the history of anthropological and social thought, and to contemporary debate on the relationship between human nature, culture, and social life.

Organicity by Dobereiner David Dobereiner Pdf

Nature is endlessly reinventing itself in a constant flux of movement and diversity. Yet the advancement of modern civilization has engendered extreme inequality, social division, and an imbalance between society and nature. Our technological proficiency has given our species the illusion of omnipotence; in our efforts to build robots more like us, we have not noticed how robotic we ourselves have become. To deal with this profound crisis, we must understand this problem at its roots. Could the origins of social domination and ecological exploitation be related? Is it possible for us to transform these dynamics and design society in a way that is cognizant of, and harmonious with, the Earth? In this visionary book, David Dobereiner lucidly delves into the present urban and ecological impasse and examines the prospects for our future. Laced with insights into social and political ecology and written with a lifetime's experience of innovating in ecological design, Organicity shows that there is still hope to build a more humane, egalitarian, and sustainable system, but it requires a fundamental shift in the way we do civilization. At the crossroads of creation and destruction, will evolution or entropy triumph?

Evolutionary Theory in Social Science by M. Schmid,Franz M. Wuketits Pdf

In retrospect the 19th century tmdoubtedly seems to be the century of evolutionism. The 'discovery of time' and therewith the experience of variability was made by many sciences: not only historians worked on the elaboration and interpretation of this discovery, but also physicists, geographers, biologists and economists, demographers, archaelogists, and even philosophers. The successful empirical fotmdation of evolutive processes by Darwin and his disciples suggested Herbert Spencer's vigorously pursued efforts in searching for an extensive' catalogue of prime and deduced evolutionary principles that would allow to integrate the most different disciplines of natural and social sciences as well as the efforts of philosophers of ethics and epistemologists. Soon it became evident, however, that the claim for integration anticipated by far the actual results of these different disciplines. Darwin I s theory suffered from the fact that in the beginning a hereditary factor which could have his theory could not be detected, while the gainings of grotmd supported in the social sciences got lost in consequence of the completely ahistorical or biologistic speculations of some representatives of the evolutionary research programm and common socialdarwinistic misinterpretations.
