Explorations and Extrapolations by Uwe Küchler Pdf

This volume continues the tradition in the series Hallenser Studien zur Anglistik und Amerikanistik of representing the full thematic diversity of research in English and American studies. The articles - mainly written by young researchers in their postgraduate or postdoctoral phases - span the areas of English and American literature, culture studies and linguistics as well as the teaching of English as a foreign language (Fachdidaktik). At the same time they represent various theoretical approaches adopted by young German researchers and the interplay of theoretical and applied issues.

Extrapolation Factory - Operator's Manual by Elliott P. Montgomery,Chris Woebken Pdf

Conversations about the future are often overly simplified and based on popularized visions of what could be. In The Extrapolation Factory Operator's Manual, Montgomery and Woebken illuminate their work to democratize futures research, elucidating strategies culled from think tanks and futurists as well as models and techniques they've developed for organizing collaborative futures explorations. Their approaches introduce a range of visioning methods that, when shared with non-futurists in community and organizational forums, could profoundly influence our ability to envision possible futures. The text is published as a bilingual manual in Mandarin Chinese and English.

Extrapolation by David Patrick Hall Pdf

What comes next for the human race after all the natural resources are consumed, and global warming has run it "s course? This was the all-consuming question in 2032. Mars exploration fails. Humans are just too fragile for deep space exploration. Scientist Tom Casey has the answers, and found himself at the right place at the right time to act on them.

Musical Extrapolations by Sebastian Schmidt Pdf

The present book proposes a systematic understanding about the conditions, mechanisms, influences, and processes evolving into a creative behavior in music, based on interdisciplinary perspectives of the cognitive sciences, In his research study, Sebastian Schmidt focuses on so-called musical extrapolations’ processes which bring the elusive quality of music into mental existence by creating extrapolations about possible future occurring events, their musical meanings, and the interrelations of their meanings. These processes, involved while music is being listened to and composed, are defined as the result of implicit and explicit problem-solving processes which are guided in tangible ways by factors of intrinsic activities and motivation, pre-disposed and experience-based structures, and environmental pressure.

Petroleum Exploration and Exploitation in Norway by Norsk petroleumsforening. Conference Pdf

This conference was arranged by the Norwegian Petroleum Society in order to commemorate the first 25 years of exploration on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Sixty papers and posters were presented of which 25 have been selected for this volume.Since the start of exploration activities during the mid 1960's the North Sea has not only proved to be one of the main petroleum provinces in the world, but has also established itself as an excellent laboratory for geoscientific research and application. This development has been stimulated greatly by the openess towards exchange of technical data encouragement by the Norwegian authorities. The objective of this book is to assess the results of 25 years of exploration in Norway. It focuses on lessons learned from past experiences as well as considering future challenges facing geoscientists in the industry (relating to both exploration and exploitation activities). Included, are papers which assess the status and future trends of exploration in the main geological provinces on the Norwegian Continental Shelf from the Central Graben in the south to Svalbard and the Russian Artic in the north.

Oil and Gas Exploration and Production by Denis Babusiaux Pdf

The steps that lead to the production of oil and gas are diverse, complex and costly. They are diverse because the detection of oil and gas involves input from many specialties, ranging from geology to reservoir engineering. They are complex, as shown by the development of the job of the petroleum architect, who coordinates all the operations. They are costly, as the investments for exploration and production represent more than half of all investments in the oil and gas sector. Moreover, exploration is a risky activity, both from the technical and financial viewpoint: only one well in five produces marketable oil. Meanwhile, the areas for exploration and production are spread throughout the world.

The steps that lead to the production of oil and gas are diverse, complex and costly. They are diverse because the detection of oil and gas involves input from many specialties, ranging from geology to reservoir engineering. Moreover, exploration is a risky activity, both from the technical and financial viewpoint: only one well in five produces marketable oil. Meanwhile, the areas for exploration and production are spread throughout the world. This book provides a complete overview of the stakes and challenges involved in oil and gas exploration and production. Following a historical review and a survey of the markets, the technical phases are covered, as are the evaluation of reserves, the estimation of investments and costs, the decision-making and control processes, and the accounting, legal and contractual environment for these activities. The book concludes with a discussion of the role of safety, and of environmental and ethical issues. This work, which is designed for readers concerned with the various aspects of the oil and gas upstream sector, is accessible to all. This second edition takes into account the huge changes in the oil and gas industry, particularly the large increases in oil prices, investments and costs observed since the first edition. This book is available in French under the title "Recherche et production du pétrole et du gaz". Contents : 1. Petroleum: a strategic product. 2. Oil and gas exploration and production. 3. Hydrocarbon reserves. 4. Investments and costs. 5. Legal, fiscal and contractual framework. 6. Decision-making on exploration and production. 7. Information, accounting and competition analysis. 8. Health, safety, the environment, ethics. Bibliography. Glossary. Index.

Exploration of Halley’s Comet by Michael Grewing,Francoise Praderie,Rüdeger Reinhard Pdf

The 1985/86 apparition of Halley's Comet turned out to be the most important apparition of a comet ever. It provided a worldwide science community with a wealth of exciting new discoveries, the most remarkable of which was undoubtedly the first image of a cometary nucleus. Halley's Comet is the brightest periodic comet, and the most famous of the 750 known comets. With its 76-year period, its recent appearance was truly a "once-in-a-lifetime" observational opportunity. The 1985/86 apparition was the thirtieth consecutive recorded apparition. Five apparitions ago, the English astronomer Edmond Halley discovered the periodicity of "his" comet and correctly predicted its return in 1758, a triumph for science best appreciated in the context of contemporary views, or rather fears, about comets at that time. The increasingly rapid progress in technological development is very much apparent when one compares the dominant tools for cometary research during Halley's next three apparitions: in 1835 studies were made based on drawings ofthe comet; in 1910 photographic plates were used; while in March 1986 an armada of six spacecraft from four space agencies approached the comet and carried out in situ measurements, 1 AU from the Earth. In 1910, nobody could have dreamed that this was possible, and today it is equally difficult to anticipate what scientists will be able to achieve in 2061.
