Extreme Holy Boldness by Franklin Andreen Pdf

We want to be like Jesus in His love, His prayer life, His holiness, and His humility. But one of the other ways we want to be like Him is to walk in His boldness. Jesus was the most fearless man to ever walk this earth. To have seen Him facing off with the Pharisees or standing down a storm or casting out devils would reveal to us an unflinching holy boldness, the likes of which would cause our jaws to drop open. Jesus was no sissy; He was bold, extremely bold! This book is a collection of writings inspired straight out of the Word of God. Although the boldness theme is nearly absent from Christian literature and sermons today (at least in the United States) it is prominent throughout Scripture, and a vital necessity to the victorious Christian life. I've entitled it "Extreme Holy Boldness" because it's more than mere boldness; anyone can be bold, at least on the outside. Holy boldness comes from God and is consistent with His character. Extreme is a word that takes something "over the top," like when a fire is extremely hot or a person is extremely smart. Extreme Holy Boldness is the over-the-top level! To anyone hoping to take their own personal faith and confidence to the next and highest level I pray this book will be a blessing. Be Blessed, and Be Extremely Bold!

Holy Boldness by Susie C. Stanley Pdf

From its inception in the nineteenth century, the Wesleyan/Holiness religious tradition has offered an alternative construction of gender and supported the equality of the sexes. In Holy Boldness, Susie C. Stanley provides a comprehensive analysis of spiritual autobiographies by thirty-four American Wesleyan/Holiness women preachers, published between the mid-nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries. While a few of these women, primarily African Americans, have been added to the canon of American women's autobiography, Stanley argues for the expansion of the canon to incorporate the majority of the women in her study. She reveals how these empowered women carried out public ministries on behalf of evangelism and social justice. The defining doctrine of the Wesleyan/Holiness tradition is the belief in sanctification, or experiencing a state of holiness. Stanley's analysis illuminates how the concept of the sanctified self inspired women to break out of the narrow confines of the traditional "women's sphere" and engage in public ministries, from preaching at camp meetings and revivals to ministering in prisons and tenements. Moreover, as a result of the Wesleyan/Holiness emphasis on experience as a valid source of theology, many women preachers turned to autobiography as a way to share their spiritual quest and religiously motivated activities with others. In such writings, these preachers focused on the events that shaped their spiritual growth and their calling to ministry, often giving only the barest details of their personal lives. Thus, Holy Boldness is not a collective biography of these women but rather an exploration of how sanctification influenced their evangelistic and social ministries. Using the tools of feminist theory and autobiographical analysis in addition to historical and theological interpretation, Stanley traces a trajectory of Christian women's autobiographies and introduces many previously unknown spiritual autobiographies that will expand our understanding of Christian spirituality in nineteenth- and twentieth-century America. The Author: Susie C. Stanley is professor of historical theology at Messiah College. She is the author of Feminist Pillar of Fire: The Life of Alma White.

Mercy for Today by Jonathan Parnell Pdf

You cannot make it without God’s mercy. Do we just need God’s grace in dark and shameful moments? Are prayers for mercy only for those times when we really mess up? Jonathan Parnell says we need God’s mercy all the time. In fact, contrary to many church cultures, Parnell shows that asking God for mercy should be as regular as asking God for our daily bread. There’s no doubt that David was in a terrible predicament when he first prayed the words of Psalm 51. It was a dark and shameful moment in the Bible, and one so dark and shameful it seldom feels relevant to us today. But David’s most desperate prayer is really a prayer for all of us—and not just for our worst moments, but for our every moment. In these pages, you'll discover: how to pray a daily, memorable prayer derived from Psalm 51 how to practice daily repentance and soul care how to pursue God and experience his joy in the Christian life This is God’s mercy, and it’s Mercy for Today.

Katrina and the Need for Revival in the American Church by Jerry Bass Pdf

What is it going to take to revive the American church and usher in a spiritual awakening in the country? The author was trapped in a downtown hospital in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. From that experience, Jerry Bass believes that God allowed this disaster in order to wake up the church from its spiritual lethargy. This book was written with an overwhelming conviction that revival in the American church is needed. Endorsements "Reading Jerry's book brought about different emotions in me. My first emotion was painful memories of a very difficult time in my life living in a city that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. My second emotion was one of hope as Jerry called for revival in our city, state, and nation. Ladies and gentlemen WE NEED REVIVAL in America, and it MUST start in our churches!" Fred Luter, Jr., pastor, Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, New Orleans, Louisiana, president, Southern Baptist Convention Ive never seen the need for revival in the Church like I see it now. I pray for revival every day. I did not pray for revival before I read this book nor understand the difference between a revival and evangelization. I have also realized that 2 Chronicles 7:14 is directed to Gods people (that includes me!) and not to unbelievers. I believe that many American Christians will be touched by Gods Spirit as they read this book and glean from it that revival must start first with them. "Holy Deadlock" and Further Ribaldries by Anonim Pdf

Did you hear the one about the newlywed who rushes off for legal advice before the honeymoon is over? Or the husbands who arrange for an enormous tub in which to cure their sugary wives with a pinch of salt? How about a participatory processional toward marriage so sacrilegious that it puts Chaucer's pilgrimage to shame? And who could have imagined a medieval series of plays devoted to spouse-swapping? Jody Enders has heard and seen all this and more, and shares it in her second volume of performance-friendly translations of medieval French farces. Carefully culled from more than two hundred extant farces, and crafted with a wit and contemporary sensibility that make them playable half a millennium later, these dozen bawdy plays take on the hilariously depressing and depressingly hilarious state of holy wedlock. In fifteenth- and sixteenth-century comedy, love and marriage do not exactly go together like a horse and carriage. What with all the arranged matches of child brides to doddering geezers, the frustration, fear, anxiety, jealousy, disappointment, and despair are matched only by the eagerness with which everybody sings, dances, and cavorts in the pursuit of deception, trickery, and adultery. Easily recognizable stock characters come vividly to life, struggling to negotiate the limits of power, class, and gender, each embodying the distinctive blend of wit, social critique, and breathless boisterousness that is farce. Whether the antics play out on the fifteenth-century stage or the twenty-first-century screen, Enders notes, comedy revels in shining its brightest spotlight on the social and legal questions of what makes a family. Her volume defines and redefines love and marriage with a message that no passage of time can tear asunder: social change finds its start where comedy itself begins—at home.
