Eye of Horus by Kylie Quillinan Pdf

Ankhesenamun has lost everything, including her position as queen. She is being sent away from Memphis to slave in the Nubian gold mines. But there is one thing that might save her yet: the Eye of Horus, a fabled artefact which is supposed to confer ultimate power on the one who wields it. If she can find it, it might help her to take back the throne and avoid war with the Hittites. But the gods don’t intend the Eye to be easily found and they've barely even begun testing Ankhesenamun to see if she's strong enough to wield it. Blending history and fantasy, The Amarna Age series is set in 18th Dynasty Egypt where the old gods have been worshipped for thousands of years and magic is a matter of belief. For readers of historical fantasy who enjoy magical realism and an ancient world setting.

Horus' Eye and Osiris' Efflux by Terje Oestigaard Pdf

"Death and the life-giving waters of the Nile were intimately interwoven in ancient Egyptian religion. The principal objective of this study is to develop a synthetic perspective for enhancing the understanding of the religious roles water had in the rise and constitution of the Egyptian civilisation during the Early Dynastic Period and the Old Kingdom. The author employs an archaeological, inter-disciplinary and comparative water perspective in which water not only forms the analytical framework, but also provides empirical data that allow for new questions to be addressed. Thus, the Nile itself is used as the primary point of departure to analyse how, why and when religious changes took place, with a particular emphasis on the development of the Osiris cult. Use is made of contemporary written sources, in particular the Pyramid Texts, but also other mortuary texts as well as flood records. The evolution of the Osiris cult is then analysed in relation to the development of the mortuary monuments; the mastabas in the First and the Second Dynasties and the emergence of the pyramids from the Third Dynasty. Hence, by comparing the different funerary monuments and practices with the emergence of the Osiris cult in relation to climatic changes and fluctuations in the Niles yearly inundation, Ancient Egyptian religion and the rise of the civilisation is analyzed according to a water perspective. It is noted that the Blue Nile was not blue, but red-brownish during the flood. When the flood started, the White Nile was not white, but green. The author argues that these fundamental characteristics of the Nile water formed the basis for the Osiris mythology. The red floodwaters in particular represented the blood of the slain Osiris."--Publisher's website.

Eye of Terra by Laurie Goulding Pdf

An anthology of Horus Heresy tales written by some of Black Library’s bestselling authors. The galaxy burns at Horus’s command, and a billion more lives are lost with each passing moment – though it was not always so. Once, the title of Warmaster stood for honour, loyalty and a fierce pride in the strength of the Space Marine Legions. But perhaps by following the myriad lines of destiny and defiance that were already woven around the primarchs and their sons, we may yet come to understand the bitterness that can eat away at even the most steadfast of souls... This Horus Heresy anthology contains fifteen short stories by authors including Graham McNeill, Nick Kyme, Gav Thorpe, Chris Wraight and many more. It also includes Aaron Dembski-Bowden’s acclaimed novella Aurelian.

In the Eye of Horus by Marcello Bertinetti Pdf

Egypt, the land that saw the rise and fall of the most long-lived and enigmatic of the ancient Mediterranean civilizations, offers itself to the readers' gaze from on high, the best vantage point from which to experience its grandeur. Egypt is capable of staging spectacles of pure beauty: the boundless Sahara desert, the fertile Nile Valley, the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean and the coral reefs of the Red Sea, the masterpieces of Egyptian antiquity, and the remarkable ingenuity of modern man. Stunning photographs, including a sequence of images taken from NASA satellites, accompanied by rich text, describe the myriad facets of a marvelous, colorful, and surprising land. These astonishing photographs truly illustrate the ancients' name for Egypt, 'the Red and the Black Land': the red of the burning desert expanses contrasted against the black of the dark silt transported by the Nile. The breathtaking images reproduced in this book trace an unusual aerial itinerary across a country of millennial appeal, rendered all the more seductive by the clarity of the light and the dizzying perspectives captured by a master photographer. This extraordinary bird's-eye overview embraces the complexity, the geometry, and the sharp colors of the land of the pharaohs.

Far Memory by Joan Marshall Grant Pdf

During the last twenty years, seven books of mine have been published as historical novels which to me are biographies of previous lives I have known. Far Memory is the autobiography of my ¬rst thirty years in the twentieth century. From early childhood, often to my extreme discomfort, I was sometimes aware beyond the usual range of the ¬ve senses. I tried to ignore the implications of this awareness, but it was too insistent; so in an attempt to understand what was happening I laboriously trained the faculty of far memory. This book describes, among other things, how I did so and what happened to me as the result. "Twenty years ago a book was published that electrified the world, a story set in ancient Egypt, entitled Winged Pharaoh. It was written by a young woman called Joan Grant. Now a book is published, Far Memory, which is Joan Grant's autobiography. It tells how Winged Pharaoh came to be written. It is the most touching, most amusing, most astonishing real life story I have ever read." - Nancy Spain, London Daily Express
