Faith, Hope, Love, & Deployment by Heather Gray Pdf

During her husband David's last deployment to Afghanistan, Heather and he realized the need for a devotional that would not only draw them closer to the Lord, but also to each other while separated. They envisioned a combination of scripture memorization, stories of hope and struggles, a revitalization of the lost art of letter writing, and practical ideas for keeping connected during deployment. Not finding such a book, they began writing "Faith, Hope, Love, & Deployment." Sadly, three months after beginning the project, David was killed in action. "To answer the question of why I'm willing to lay my life on the line for my country. . . ." So began the letter Heather received from her husband on the day of his funeral. The letter was an assignment from "Faith, Hope, Love, & Deployment." She knew then the value of the devotional they had been writing for military couples. At first Heather didn't think she could finish it without his input and support. But in the months that followed, she realized that we actually learn and grow the most through our pain and trials. She finished the devotional with the hope it would be as much a blessing for other military couples as it was for her and David.

Faith, Hope, Love, and Amazing Grace by Les D. Maloney Ph.D. Pdf

This brief sharing of my experiences as an active-duty and reserve Army chaplain has been years in the making. While there are far more joyful memories than sorrow-filled memories, the latter are painful and some of them were not comfortable to revisit—especially the memories involving families who lost their soldier. The time frame for this story is my service as an Army Reserve chaplain from 1991–2013, including over seven years on active duty. It has been my observation that a majority of the general public (and in fact, a lot of military service members) do not understand what a military chaplain does—other than the insights provided by the TV series M*A*S*H and the character of Father (chaplain) Mulcahy. My hope in publishing this book is that people will gain a deeper insight into and appreciation for the work of military chaplains, my brothers and sisters in ministry.

Faith Deployed by Jocelyn Green Pdf

If your spouse or someone you know has been deployed recently, the stress of this situation will resonate with you. Jocelyn Green speaks directly to the wives of deployed seamen, marines, airmen, and soldiers, through the experiences of their spouses. This book is not “ten easy steps” for a painless life; instead, it is a collection of devotions that squarely addresses the challenges wives face when their husbands are away protecting freedom. Challenges like: how does a military wife maintain a strong sense of patriotism without allowing her country to become an idol? What good can possibly come from moving every two or three years? How can I be sure that God has a purpose for my life that’s as strong as His purpose for my husband’s? The foundation of this devotional is the unchanging character of God and the anchor of Jesus Christ, even amidst the shifting circumstances of a military family.

Luther on Faith and Love by Sun-Young Kim Pdf

There has been a distinct tendency in modern scholarship to underestimate Luther's teaching on love by overemphasizing his teaching on justification. Calling this tendency into question, this volume advances the thesis that Luther's teaching on faith and love operates as the overriding thematic pair in the dynamics of Christ and the law--structurally and conceptually undergirding the 1535 Galatians commentary. The research situates itself in the landscape of Luther scholarship via a special attention to Finnish Luther scholars and scholarship.

Love Him Anyway by Abby Banks Pdf

One night can change everything. Abby Banks put her healthy, happy infant son to sleep, but when she awoke the next morning, she felt as though she was living a nightmare. Her son, Wyatt, was paralyzed. There was no fall, no accident, no warning. A rare autoimmune disease attacked his spinal cord, and there was no cure. In an instant, all her hopes and dreams for him were wiped away. The life she envisioned for her family was gone, and she was frozen by the fear of a future she never imagined. As she struggled to come to grips with her son’s devastating diagnosis and difficult rehabilitation, she found true hope in making a simple choice, a choice to love anyway—to love her son, the life she didn’t plan, and the God of hope, who is faithful even when the healing doesn’t come. In Love Him Anyway, Abby shares her family’s journey from heartbreak to triumph and reminds us that hope and joy can be found in life’s hardest places.

The Longest Goodbye: A Family's Hope-Filled Journey Through Alzheimer's by Shelly Calcagno Pdf

Are we ever ready to say goodbye? She looked out into the yard sprinkled with spring dandelions. “Yellow flowers,” she said, searching for her words. We knew something wasn’t right. That’s when things began to fall apart for our family, when our longest goodbye journey began—the defining before-and-after moment. And now, looking back, it’s been almost a decade of slow loss and drawn-out grief as we slowly let go of our beautiful mom. In the middle of it all, though, we have learned to look for hope and chase down joy, discovering that, in spite of our pain, there are always gifts to be found, even on the hardest of days. Alzheimer’s disease affects almost fifty million people worldwide. It touches people across every walk of life. So, how do millions of people figure out how to love as they let go? The Longest Goodbye is a collection of stories and moments not just about the clinical side of memory loss–but the emotional heart journey. It is a story that shows how joy and grief are often intertwined and wrapped up together in the glorious mess of life. The Longest Goodbye encourages readers to remember the ones they love while they are still here and to intentionally celebrate and live through the pain and hard days. A Love Story by Iris Zenia Solorio Pdf

This is a true story of love, hope faith and sacrifice and conflict with family. There are many women who have lost a husband like me in deployment. My husband was injured twice and earned two purple hearts. His third purple heart separated us forever. A Love Story: and the three purple hearts is my memoir, about a young woman who falls in love with a soldier. It’s a story about young love and conflict with family, and what happens when you break your parents home rules. Over us all loomed the greater conflict in Iraq—Operation Iraqi Freedom. This I learned the hard way: for freedom, comes sacrifice, but in the end, love is what matters.

Tour of Duty by Sara Horn Pdf

Tour of Duty: Preparing Our Hearts for Deployment - Member Book is a Bible study for Military Wives. Participants will join together with others who have a common thread--husbands who are being or have been deployed. This study helps wives deal with the emotional twists and turns they may not be ready to face. It will point them to God, and participants will learn how to lean on God and not carry so much of the weight that is so often placed on them. These women will learn to practically find their hope in Christ alone. Military families like to be prepared--they plan, they strategize, they organize. But whether they're active, National Guard, or Reserve, when deployment comes, all the planning in the world can still fail when it comes to their hearts. Tour Of Duty is an excellent starting point for military wives to get connected with others in the military community who share this common thread. Women facing deployment can learn how to lean on God and come out of it confident in the knowledge that God is with them, He loves them, and He has not abandoned them. Faith, Reason, and Theosis by Aristotle Papanikolaou,George E. Demacopoulos Pdf

Theosis shapes contemporary Orthodox theology in two ways: positively and negatively. In the positive sense, contemporary Orthodox theologians made theosis the thread that bound together the various aspects of theology in a coherent whole and also interpreted patristic texts, which experienced a renaissance in the twentieth century, even in Orthodox theology. In the negative sense, contemporary theologians used theosis as a triumphalistic club to beat down Catholic and Protestant Christians, claiming that they rejected theosis in favor of either a rationalistic or fideistic approach to Christian life. The essays collected in this volume move beyond this East–West divide by examining the relation between faith, reason, and theosis from Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant perspectives. A variety of themes are addressed, such as the nature–grace debate and the relation of philosophy to theology, through engagement with such diverse thinkers as Thomas Aquinas, John Wesley, Meister Eckhart, Dionysius the Areopagite, Symeon the New Theologian, Panayiotis Nellas, Vladimir Lossky, Martin Luther, Martin Heidegger, Sergius Bulgakov, John of the Cross, Delores Williams, Evagrius of Pontus, and Hans Urs von Balthasar. The essays in this book are situated within a current thinking on theosis that consists of a common, albeit minimalist, affirmation amidst the flow of differences. The authors in this volume contribute to the historical theological task of complicating the contemporary Orthodox narrative, but they also continue the “theological achievement” of thinking about theosis so that all Christian traditions may be challenged to stretch and shift their understanding of theosis even amidst an ecumenical celebration of the gift of participation in the life of God.
