Faiths and Faithfulness by Nicholas J. Wood Pdf

How are people of faith to be faithful to their various traditions in today's diverse society? How may we live together as neighbors and yet remain true to our differing religious convictions? How is it possible for the contemporary Christian to confess the Lordship of Jesus Christ in a world of many faiths? These are some of the fundamental questions which this volume seeks to explore. It offers a critical account of two key twentieth-century missionary-theologians who attempted to address the issue of pluralism within a confessional framework: Bishop Kenneth Cragg and Bishop Lesslie Newbigin. This study argues for a reconsideration of the biblical themes of fullness and fulfillment which may offer a way of holding together the traditions of continuity, which Cragg shows can never be total, and of discontinuity, which Newbigin argues can never be absolute. In this way the book addresses some of the implications for the development of an appropriate missiological approach to inter-faith issues in the twenty-first century which requires us to take people of faith seriously but also allows faithfulness to the Christian gospel.

Faith Vs Faithfulness by Justin Perdue,Jimmy Buehler,Theocast Inc Pdf

Many Christians evaluate their lives and ask the same questions: Am I doing enough? Have I shown enough discipline, enough dedication, or enough effort? Would praying and reading my Bible more help meovercome . . . remove . . . have . . .? You may feel that you put so much effort into improving your Christian life with no apparent fruit. Sins you thought would have been easier to overcome are still plaguing your daily life. You are not alone, and you are not crazy! Many Christians today live on this sort of performance-based treadmill, running fast and getting nowhere. Trying harder and doing more haven't produced assurance or victory over sin. You're exhausted. You feel empty and fake inside. You feel guilty for merely wanting to just coast, to give in, to stop trying. The foundation of Christianity is faith. And the foundation of the Christian faith, we will argue in this primer, is rest. In this book, Jon Moffitt, Jimmy Buehler, and Justin Perdue explain how weary pilgrims can find rest in Jesus Christ. Daring to Hope by Katie Davis Majors Pdf

New York Times bestseller How do you hold on to hope when you don’t get the ending you asked for? When Katie Davis Majors moved to Uganda, accidentally founded a booming organization, and later became the mother of thirteen girls through the miracle of adoption, she determined to weave her life together with the people she desired to serve. But joy often gave way to sorrow as she invested her heart fully in walking alongside people in the grip of poverty, addiction, desperation, and disease. After unexpected tragedy shook her family, for the first time Katie began to wonder, Is God really good? Does He really love us? When she turned to Him with her questions, God spoke truth to her heart and drew her even deeper into relationship with Him. Daring to Hope is an invitation to cling to the God of the impossible—the God who whispers His love to us in the quiet, in the mundane, when our prayers are not answered the way we want or the miracle doesn’t come. It’s about a mother discovering the extraordinary strength it takes to be ordinary. It’s about choosing faith no matter the circumstance and about encountering God’s goodness in the least expected places. Though your heartaches and dreams may take a different shape, you will find your own questions echoed in these pages. You’ll be reminded of the gifts of joy in the midst of sorrow. And you’ll hear God’s whisper: Hold on to hope. I will meet you here.

The Faith of Jesus Christ by Richard B. Hays Pdf

In this important study Hays argues against the mainstream that any attempt to account for the nature and method of Paul's theological language must first reckon with the centrality of narrative elements in his thought. Through an in-depth investigation of Galatians 3:1-4:11, Hays shows that the framework of Paul's thought is neither a system of doctrines nor his personal religious experience but the "sacred story" of Jesus Christ.

God with Us—Fifty True Stories of God's Faithfulness by JoAnne DeSerio Jones Pdf

Real people. Real stories. Real God. A car without brakes racing toward a speeding train, an injured man alone in the woods, a stroke victim rushed to the hospital, a man held at gunpoint. These are among the fifty true stories in this book—all from one church—that show God helping those in need. God is with each one of us; we have only to open our spiritual eyes. “I highly recommend this book. It will increase your faith as it did mine.” —Dr. Jo Anne Lyon, General Superintendent, The Wesleyan Church Founder, World Hope International “We do walk by faith and not by sight. But every once in a while, God gives us a uniquely grace-filled experience that gives us a sacred glimpse of His hand and presence in our lives. As you read these stories of God-sightings, your faith in our invisible God will be deepened and enriched.” —Dr. Jack Connell, Executive Vice President Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary “If you want a real-life glimpse of some ways God actually shows up in human affairs, JoAnne Jones’s Fifty True Stories is the book to read. Then prepare to build a bigger box for your faith. I predict you will likely need it.” —David L. Thompson, Ph.D., F. M. and Ada Thompson Professor of Biblical Studies, Asbury Theological Seminary

Biblical Theology of the Old and New Testaments by Brevard S. Childs Pdf

This monumental work is the first comprehensive biblical theology to appear in many years and is the culmination of Brevard Child's lifelong commitment to constructing a biblical theology that surmounts objections to the discipline raised over the past generation. Childs rejects any approaches that overstress either the continuity or discontinuity between the Old and New Testaments. He refuses to follow the common pattern in Christian thought of identifying biblical theology with the New Testament's interest in the Old. Rather, Childs maps out an approach that reflects on the whole Christian Bible with its two very different voices, each of which retains continuing integrity and is heard on its own terms.
