Jehovah's Witnesses by George D. Chryssides Pdf

From its origins in nineteenth century Adventism until the present day, the Watch Tower Society has become one of the best known but least understood new religious movements. Resisting the tendency to define the movement in terms of the negative, this volume offers an empathetic account of the Jehovah's Witnesses, without defending or seeking to refute their beliefs. George Chryssides critically examines the historical and theological bases of the organization's teachings and practices, and discusses the changes and continuities which have defined it. The book provides a valuable resource for scholars of new religious movements and contemporary religion.

Religious Education 7-11 by Terence Copley Pdf

The place of religious education in the elementary curriculum is an ambiguous one for many teachers. Using a mixture of theory and practical ideas, this book will help all elementary teachers, whether specialists or not, to deliver effective religious education. Terence Copley clarifies the legal framework, discusses problem areas like the withdrawal of children from the subject and examines key principles and concepts involved in teaching the main areas of religious education. He also looks at practical issues of classroom organization and at how religious education can be integrated into topic work but should also remain a subject in its own right.

When Dinosaurs Fall by Orlando Rodriguez Pdf

I was born into the religion of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was raised by my forebears with the single-minded goal to be baptized in the name of the Lord, Jehovah. Lucky me. There was a problem with this monomaniacal plan. I was an atheist as far back as I could remember. Before I continue, I’d like to make the following requisite statement, which I think is very important to articulate. I promised myself that I did not want to make another Jehovah's Witness bashing book. There are plenty of those available. I try to convey the intentional internal conflict that is nourished in the congregation and the ideologies used as brainwashing you to accept the “truth.” It is important to note that the Jehovah’s Witnesses are a cult, just like every other religion but there is some real danger to this unusual sect of Christianity. You will be called to sacrifice your child’s life to God if they require a blood transfusion to save their life. You will be forced into not pursuing higher education, the sole purpose of your existence to preach the “Good News”. Women are to be submissive to male counterparts at all times. I can truly say that this is not the religion you should be looking at if you want answers to life’s yearning questions.

The Fall of Summer by Roz Louis Pdf

One of my greatest mentors inspired the writing of this book. She used to say, "People need to know who they are and whose they are." So many blindly follow the status quo. But, every once in a while a great man or woman rises up, rejecting the status quo, and presses to correct injustice and to find Truth. That particular person is Summer. Summer Gram Kenten is just an ordinary woman; a daughter, a wife, a mother. Yet her passion for education and her search for God collide in this epic book as Summer refuses to follow the tradition around her. Will Summer find Truth? What is Truth? This book serves as the prelude to the soon to come writings, "Now is the Time, the Time is Now."

Leaving the Witness by Amber Scorah Pdf

"À la Tara Westover's Educated, Scorah's pensive, ultimately liberating memoir chronicles her formative years as a Jehovah's Witness...and captures the bewilderment of belief and the bliss of self-discovery."--O, The Oprah Magazine, Named one of "The Best Books by Women of Summer 2019" "Scorah's book, the bravery of which cannot be overstated, is an earnest one, fueled by a plucky humor and a can-do spirit that endears. Her tale, though an exploration of extremity, is highly readable and warm."--The New York Times Book Review A riveting memoir of losing faith and finding freedom while a covert missionary in one of the world's most restrictive countries. A third-generation Jehovah's Witness, Amber Scorah had devoted her life to sounding God's warning of impending Armageddon. She volunteered to take the message to China, where the preaching she did was illegal and could result in her expulsion or worse. Here, she had some distance from her community for the first time. Immersion in a foreign language and culture--and a whole new way of thinking--turned her world upside down, and eventually led her to lose all that she had been sure was true. As a proselytizer in Shanghai, using fake names and secret codes to evade the authorities' notice, Scorah discreetly looked for targets in public parks and stores. To support herself, she found work at a Chinese language learning podcast, hiding her real purpose from her coworkers. Now with a creative outlet, getting to know worldly people for the first time, she began to understand that there were other ways of seeing the world and living a fulfilling life. When one of these relationships became an "escape hatch," Scorah's loss of faith culminated in her own personal apocalypse, the only kind of ending possible for a Jehovah's Witness. Shunned by family and friends as an apostate, Scorah was alone in Shanghai and thrown into a world she had only known from the periphery--with no education or support system. A coming of age story of a woman already in her thirties, this unforgettable memoir examines what it's like to start one's life over again with an entirely new identity. It follows Scorah to New York City, where a personal tragedy forces her to look for new ways to find meaning in the absence of religion. With compelling, spare prose, Leaving the Witness traces the bittersweet process of starting over, when everything one's life was built around is gone.
