Father Figure by Jordan Shapiro Pdf

A thoughtful and "utterly mind-blowing" exploration of fatherhood and masculinity in the 21st century (New York Times). There are hundreds of books on parenting, and with good reason—becoming a parent is scary, difficult, and life-changing. But when it comes to books about parenting identity, rather than the nuts and bolts of raising children, nearly all are about what it's like to be a mother. Drawing on research in sociology, economics, philosophy, gender studies, and the author's own experiences, Father Figure sets out to fill that gap. It's an exploration of the psychology of fatherhood from an archetypal perspective as well as a cultural history that challenges familiar assumptions about the origins of so-called traditional parenting roles. What paradoxes and contradictions are inherent in our common understanding of dads? Might it be time to rethink some aspects of fatherhood? Gender norms are changing, and old economic models are facing disruption. As a result, parenthood and family life are undergoing an existential transformation. And yet, the narratives and images of dads available to us are wholly inadequate for this transition. Victorian and Industrial Age tropes about fathers not only dominate the media, but also contour most people's lived experience. Father Figure offers a badly needed update to our collective understanding of fatherhood—and masculinity in general. It teaches dads how to embrace the joys of fathering while guiding them toward an image of manliness for the modern world.

The Father Figure "Male or Female" Commitment by Octavius Brown LPC & LCADC Pdf

I felt Called by the spirit of the LORD to author this Book. I realize that by the grace of God for seven decades, I am blessed to share my thoughts about the Glory of Unconditional Love, Forgiveness, and the importance of having as a healthy Father Figure Role Model Commitment within and outside of the Home. Message to the Readers: This book is ideal for couples that are planning to start a meaningful relationship or a future marriage. Similarly, will significantly help anyone that had previously experienced a divorce and is now planning their second or third marriage. Because it examines the correlation between Divorces and an unhealthy Father Figure’s Commitment Role Model. That based on average second marriages results in a 60 percent marriage Divorce Rate. The Divorce Rates percentages are even higher for third and greater marriages. Therefore, this is what compelled me to authoring this book. Clinically, I believe that on average people that are going or had gone through a divorce need to pause and read this book. As an approach to start the process of addressing needed behavioral changes. Since coping with separation from someone you once genuinely loved is a very unhappy life experience. Both parties need to recognize that a failed or failing first marriage is strong indication that something is wrong and needs to be clinically processed and resolved. My hypothesis is based on my over fifty years of life experiences, numerous episodes of unregulated and unprocessed emotions, as well as an inconsistent presentation of the Father Figure’s Commitment essence. That was cultivated by years of embedded and unprocessed unhealthy emotions. Due to an exhibited argumentative presentation that lacked the heart of Unconditional Love and Forgiveness. In general, regarding the connection between Divorce Rate and the Father Figure Commitment, I think, that by increasing awareness about the value of two-way healthy communication, where all parties’ thoughts, feelings, and concerns are relevant. In addition, improve people passion for healthier communication within a family, will result in strengthen their readiness to implement skills to better manage unregulated emotions, resolve concerns and reduce the Divorce Rate number for second and higher marriages. Furthermore, during the initial stages of any relationships and prior to Marriage, there should be discussions about the fundamental principles unconditional love and forgiveness. That is achieved by the implementation of effective Counseling techniques from the Nineteen Chapters in this book.

Father Figure by Zun Lee Pdf

Widely hailed as a landmark project, Zun Lee's monograph is at once documentary photography and personal visual storytelling. Through intimate black-and-white frames, 'Father Figure: Exploring Alternate Notions of Black Fatherhood' provides insight into often-overlooked aspects of African-descended family life. The reader gains an intimate view into the daily lives of black men whom Lee has worked with since 2011 and who are parenting under a variety of circumstances - as married fathers, single fathers, social fathers, young and older, middle class and poorer. Lee brings into focus what pervasive father absence stereotypes have distorted - real fathers who are involved in their children's lives. Men who may not be perfect but are not media caricatures. Zun Lee's journey of fatherlessness and identity formation informs his insider perspective and photographic approach. Using his own biography as inspiration, Lee is able to access a complex subject matter with profound vulnerability and compassion, creating a richly woven narrative that is deceptively simple yet multi-dimensional and above all, deeply humanistic. Flanked by writer and photographer Teju Cole's empathetic foreword and by an impassioned afterword courtesy of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Trymaine Lee, this work exposes the viewer to aspects of black male identity that many have not seen, or perhaps do not want to see. It shows these men not as victims of their circumstances but as empowered agents in their own lives, as capable parents, and above all as loving, wholesome human beings.

The New Childhood by Jordan Shapiro Pdf

A provocative look at the new, digital landscape of childhood and how to navigate it. In The New Childhood, Jordan Shapiro provides a hopeful counterpoint to the fearful hand-wringing that has come to define our narrative around children and technology. Drawing on groundbreaking research in economics, psychology, philosophy, and education, The New Childhood shows how technology is guiding humanity toward a bright future in which our children will be able to create new, better models of global citizenship, connection, and community. Shapiro offers concrete, practical advice on how to parent and educate children effectively in a connected world, and provides tools and techniques for using technology to engage with kids and help them learn and grow. He compares this moment in time to other great technological revolutions in humanity's past and presents entertaining micro-histories of cultural fixtures: the sandbox, finger painting, the family dinner, and more. But most importantly, The New Childhood paints a timely, inspiring and positive picture of today's children, recognizing that they are poised to create a progressive, diverse, meaningful, and hyper-connected world that today's adults can only barely imagine.

The Absent Father Effect on Daughters by Susan E. Schwartz Pdf

The Absent Father Effect on Daughters investigates the impact of absent – physically or emotionally – and inadequate fathers on the lives and psyches of their daughters through the perspective of Jungian analytical psychology. This book tells the stories of daughters who describe the insecurity of self, the splintering and disintegration of the personality, and the silencing of voice. Issues of fathers and daughters reach to the intra-psychic depths and archetypal roots, to issues of self and culture, both personal and collective. Susan E. Schwartz illustrates the maladies and disappointments of daughters who lack a father figure and incorporates clinical examples describing how daughters can break out of idealizations, betrayals, abandonments and losses to move towards repair and renewal. The book takes an interdisciplinary approach, expanding and elucidating Jungian concepts through dreams, personal stories, fairy tales and the poetry of Sylvia Plath, along with psychoanalytic theory, including Andre Green’s ‘dead father effect’ and Julia Kristeva’s theories on women and the body as abject. Examining daughters both personally and collectively affected by the lack of a father, The Absent Father Effect on Daughters is highly relevant for those wanting to understand the complex dynamics of daughters and fathers to become their authentic selves. It will be essential reading for anyone seeking understanding, analytical and depth psychologists, other therapy professionals, academics and students with Jungian and post-Jungian interests.
