Feature Interactions in Telecommunications Networks IV by Petre Dini,Raouf Boutaba,L. Logrippo Pdf

Feature interactions are related to the creation, maintenance, and evolution of new services (telephony, electronic commerce, multimedia, banking, etc.), and to the implementation of these services across distributed platforms. Some of the other aspects are software maintainability, software verification and validation, software documentation, and software development process. This book covers several types of telecommunication software (processing, communication, and management), multimedia applications and other types of distributed applications. Some of the contributions in the book represent work in progress, personal experience, and potential solutions. By their very nature, feature interactions can be found in different types of systems. The spectrum of contributions demonstrates the relevance of feature interactions problems. The book provides contributions by leading experts in these areas, covering many aspects of the specification, detection, and avoidance of feature interactions. The book presents research advances and report personal positions.

Feature Interactions in Telecommunications Systems, III by Kong E. Cheng,Tadashi Ohta Pdf

In an information society, heavily dependent on communications and distributed systems, feature interactions are likely to become an even more important problem than they are today. A particularly interesting issue, given the current work on agents, is whether feature interactions will be more likely in systems with many autonomous agents performing tasks. The current demand for better and more convenient communications requires development of a variety of new services as quickly as possible. As the number of services becomes larger, however, feature interactions create incompatibilities between the various functions needed to implement them. In developing telecommunication systems, we now spend huge numbers of person-hours on software modifications and testing whenever a new function is added. Much of this time is spent on detecting and eliminating problems arising from feature interaction. In the future, as ever more services are offered, feature interactions will become a major bottleneck in the development of software for telecommunications systems. This book presents opinions on the technical problems involved in feature interactions and definitions of features and feature interactions.

Feature Interactions in Telecommunications and Software Systems VI by Muffy Calder,Evan Magill Pdf

Typically, telecommunications services are implemented in software. Feature interaction is the term used to describe interference between services or features; most attention is given to cases where the interference is undesirable, ie. there is an incompatibility. In telecommunications, control and data is distributed and on such a large scale that software development is by numerous disjoint teams; by its nature, therefore, this software experienced the feature interaction problem first. But, while the workshop focuses on communications services, the subject has relevance to any domain where separate software entities control a shared resource.

Feature Interactions in Telecommunications and Software Systems VIII by Stephan Reiff-Marganiec,Mark D. Ryan Pdf

Features - additional services - occur whenever organisations compete by differentiating their products from those of rival organisations. Adding one feature may break another, or interfere with it in an undesired way. This phenomenon is called feature interaction. This book explores ways in which the feature interaction problem may be mitigated.

Feature Interactions in Software and Communication Systems X by M. Nakamura,S. Reiff-Marganiec Pdf

The International Conference on Feature Interactions in Software and Communication Systems (ICFI) has evolved out of the Feature Interaction Workshop (FIW), which started in 1992 as the leading forum for discussion and reporting on research on feature interactions in telecommunications systems. It is now concerned with feature interaction in all types of software systems. Participation includes practitioners, researchers and educators. The proceedings have been published by IOS Press since 1994.

Managing QoS in Multimedia Networks and Services by José Neuman de Souza,Raouf Boutaba Pdf

Welcome to the third International Conference on Management of Multimedia Networks and Services (MMNS'2000) in Fortaleza (Brazil)! The first MMNS was held in Montreal ( Canada) in july 1997 and the second MMNS was held in Versailles (France) in November 1998. The MMNS conference takes place every year and a half and is aimed to be a truly international event by bringing together researchers and practitioners from all around the world and by organising the conference each time in a different continent/country. Over the past several years, there has been a considerable amount of research within the fields of multimedia networking and network management. Much of that work has taken place within the context of managing Quality-of Service in broadband integrated services digital networks such as the A TM, and more recently in IP-based networks, to respond to the requirements of emerging multimedia applications. A TM networks were designed to support multimedia traffic with diverse characteristics and can be used as the transfer mode for both wired and wireless networks. A new set of Internet protocols is being developed to provide better quality of service, which is a prerequisite for supporting multimedia applications. Multimedia applications have a different set of requirements, which impacts the design of the underlying communication network as well as its management. Several QoS management mechanisms intervening at different layers of the communication network are required including QoS-routing, QoS-based transport, QoS negotiation, QoS adaptation, FCAPS management, and mobility management.

Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems V by Bart Jacobs,Arend Rensink Pdf

Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems V brings together research in three important and related fields: Formal methods; Distributed systems; Object-based technology. Such a convergence is representative of recent advances in the field of distributed systems, and provides links between several scientific and technological communities. The wide scope of topics covered in this volume range in subject from UML to object-based languages and calculi and security, and in approach from specification to case studies and verification. This volume comprises the proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems (FMOODS 2002), which was sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and held in Enschede, The Netherlands in March 2002.

Feature Interactions in Telecommunications Systems by L. G. Bouma,H. Velthuijsen Pdf

Features are modifications to the control of telecommunications services. A feature interaction occurs when the behaviour of another, which can lead to unexpected or undesired behaviour, which affects the quality of service. The goal of this volume is to generate a combination of techniques through protocol engineering, software testing, formal techniques and AI and applications to telecommunications services.
