Feeding the Nutcracker Crew in Cody, Wyoming by Cynthia Kaelberer Pdf

When Elizabeth announced she wanted to produce “The Nutcracker,” her family members nodded their heads. Her mother, the author of this book, was excited about what such a production would entail: choreography, lighting, costumes, and of course, other parents. What she might not have envisioned at the time, however, was how much cooking and baking would be required to feed the crew. In this book, she looks back at how the first production in 1998 came together from scratch. Grandmothers, mothers, friends, and parents sewed costumes and helped with the props, with Elizabeth always being determined to offer a first-class production. She even folded the programs herself, ensuring that each fold was straight and razor sharp. Each of the dancers that first year performed multiple roles and worked long hours preparing. While exhausting, it all came together and made their collective accomplishment that much sweeter when it came to fruition. Join the author as she looks back at how a magical ballet—along with some great recipes— became an essential part of the Christmas season in Cody, Wyoming.

Windows into the Earth by Robert B. Smith,Lee J. Siegel Pdf

Millions of years ago, the North American continent was dragged over the world's largest continental hotspot, a huge column of hot and molten rock rising from the Earth's interior that traced a 50-mile wide, 500-mile-long path northeastward across Idaho. Generating cataclysmic volcanic eruptions and large earthquakes, the hotspot helped lift the Yellowstone Plateau to more than 7,000 feet and pushed the northern Rockies to new heights, forming unusually large glaciers to carve the landscape. It also created the jewel of the U.S. national park system: Yellowstone. Meanwhile, forces stretching apart the western U.S. created the mountainous glory of Grand Teton National Park. These two parks, with their majestic mountains, dazzling geysers, and picturesque hot springs, are windows into the Earth's interior, revealing the violent power of the dynamic processes within. Smith and Siegel offer expert guidance through this awe-inspiring terrain, bringing to life the grandeur of these geologic phenomena as they reveal the forces that have shaped--and continue to shape--the greater Yellowstone-Teton region. Over seventy illustrations--including fifty-two in full color--illuminate the breathtaking beauty of the landscape, while two final chapters provide driving tours of the parks to help visitors enjoy and understand the regions wonders. Fascinating and informative, this book affords us a striking new perspective on Earth's creative forces.

The Northern Goshawk by Thomas Bosakowski Pdf

The northern goshawk is one of the principal members of the forest raptor community that I investigated during graduate studies in the northeastern United States. As a wildlife biologist for Beak Consultants, I also conducted surveys, research, and GIS-habitat modeling on goshawks in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to that work, another part of my job was also to provide expertise on goshawk issues and remain current with the scientific literature on goshawks. After amassing a wealth of information, data, and field experience, it seemed like a natural step to compile this knowledge into a single handy source or reference book for people keenly interested in North American goshawks or raptors in general. While there have been several recent reviews on goshawk biology, I think that this book presents a unique perspective of experience gained from a biologist who has studied goshawks from coast to coast. In addition, one of my strengths as a scientist has been my ability to see the big picture and not get muddled in lengthy debate over minor details. Thus, I feel that this book presents a practical, logical, and holistic approach to the study and conservation of goshawks in North America. More than simply provide another review, I hope that I have synthesized the most critical elements of life history and scientific analyses into a thesis which provides a complete and comprehensive understanding of the goshawk.
