Fertigation by P Soman Pdf

Fertigation requires a thorough understanding of the science behind the technology to make it deliver the immense possibility it offers in crop production. Though the idea of fertigation existed from the times of solution culture, it did not receive the necessary attention from among plant nutritionists and agronomists when it reappeared in the context of micro irrigation. Fertilizer application in field agriculture has also not developed as a precision technology. Recommendations of the quantum of fertilizers required for a crop, at least in India are not based on current varieties of the crops, nor have they anything to do with the growth rate and developmental changes occurring while a crop is managed by the grower. Most of the fertilizer recommendations are itself very old and efforts to make them relevant to the current growing conditions, soil status, crop variety and crops reaction to the environment etc. are very limited. It is even worse when growers follow traders' recommendations whose idea is to sell more the fertilizer they supply. Not only lower yields and very low fertilizer use efficiencies, but the deterioration of soil and water bodies are the results.

Drip Irrigation for Agriculture by Jean-Philippe Venot,Marcel Kuper,Margreet Zwarteveen Pdf

Initially associated with hi-tech irrigated agriculture, drip irrigation is now being used by a much wider range of farmers in emerging and developing countries. This book documents the enthusiasm, spread and use of drip irrigation systems by smallholders but also some disappointments and disillusion faced in the global South. It explores and explains under which conditions it works, for whom and with what effects. The book deals with drip irrigation 'behind the scenes', showcasing what largely remain 'untold stories'. Most research on drip irrigation use plot-level studies to demonstrate the technology’s ability to save water or improve efficiencies and use a narrow and rather prescriptive engineering or economic language. They tend to be grounded in a firm belief in the technology and focus on the identification of ways to improve or better realize its potential. The technology also figures prominently in poverty alleviation or agricultural modernization narratives, figuring as a tool to help smallholders become more innovative, entrepreneurial and business minded. Instead of focusing on its potential, this book looks at drip irrigation-in-use, making sense of what it does from the perspectives of the farmers who use it, and of the development workers and agencies, policymakers, private companies, local craftsmen, engineers, extension agents or researchers who engage with it for a diversity of reasons and to realize a multiplicity of objectives. While anchored in a sound engineering understanding of the design and operating principles of the technology, the book extends the analysis beyond engineering and hydraulics to understand drip irrigation as a sociotechnical phenomenon that not only changes the way water is supplied to crops but also transforms agricultural farming systems and even how society is organized. The book provides field evidence from a diversity of interdisciplinary case studies in sub-Saharan Africa, the Mediterranean, Latin America, and South Asia, thus revealing some of the untold stories of drip irrigation.

Drip Irrigation by Samuel Dasberg,Dani Or Pdf

The aim of this book is quite ambitious: here, we attempt to bridge the gap between soH physicists, agronomists, horticulturists, hydraulic engineers, de signers, manufacturers and users of drip irrigation systems. We believe that progress in drip irrigation hinges on the contributions of professionals made in all related disciplines and their cooperation. The last decade has seen great development in the field of drip irrigation, al though the drip-irrigated area has not increased at the same rate as in the pre vious decade. However, our understanding of the processes involved in water and solute distribution and in plant response has increased vastly. The tools for op timal design of drip systems have improved tremendously. The main progress has been in the development and in the manufacture of sophisticated equipment; not only improved types of emitters and laterals, but also auxiliary equipment such as new filtration systems, controllers and sensors. In this book we highlight the need to maintain a proper balance between the hydraulic design of drip systems and aspects of their management and maintenance. Drip irrigation has a potential for high water use efficiency, but many well-designed systems suffer from bad management. We are indebted to the late Eshel Bresler for his contribution to our under standing of water and solute movement under drip irrigation and its appli cation to system design. Some parts of a previous publication entitled "Drip irrigation manual" authored by S. Dasberg and E.
