Complex Analysis and Potential Theory by Andre Boivin,Javad Mashreghi Pdf

This is the proceedings volume of an international conference entitled Complex Analysis and Potential Theory, which was held to honor the important contributions of two influential analysts, Kohur N. GowriSankaran and Paul M. Gauthier, in June 2011 at the Centre de Recherches Mathematiques (CRM) in Montreal. More than fifty mathematicians from fifteen countries participated in the conference. The twenty-four surveys and research articles contained in this book are based on the lectures given by some of the most established specialists in the fields. They reflect the wide breadth of research interests of the two honorees: from potential theory on trees to approximation on Riemann surfaces, from universality to inner and outer functions and the disc algebra, from branching processes to harmonic extension and capacities, from harmonic mappings and the Harnack principle to integration formulae in $\mathbb {C}^n$ and the Hartogs phenomenon, from fine harmonicity and plurisubharmonic functions to the binomial identity and the Riemann hypothesis, and more. This volume will be a valuable resource for specialists, young researchers, and graduate students from both fields, complex analysis and potential theory. It will foster further cooperation and the exchange of ideas and techniques to find new research perspectives.

Potential Theory, Surveys and Problems by Josef Kral,Jaroslav Lukes,Ivan Netuka,Jiri Vesely Pdf

The volume comprises eleven survey papers based on survey lectures delivered at the Conference in Prague in July 1987, which covered various facets of potential theory, including its applications in other areas. The survey papers deal with both classical and abstract potential theory and its relations to partial differential equations, stochastic processes and other branches such as numerical analysis and topology. A collection of problems from potential theory, compiled on the occasion of the conference, is included, with additional commentaries, in the second part of this volume.

Approximation by Solutions of Partial Differential Equations by B. Fuglede,M. Goldstein,W. Haussmann,W.K. Hayman,L. Rogge Pdf

This volume consists of the proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Approximation by Solutions of Partial Differential Equations, Quadrature Formulae, and Related Topics, which was held at Hanstholm, Denmark. These proceedings include the main invited talks and contributed papers given during the workshop. The aim of these lectures was to present a selection of results of the latest research in the field. In addition to covering topics in approximation by solutions of partial differential equations and quadrature formulae, this volume is also concerned with related areas, such as Gaussian quadratures, the Pompelu problem, rational approximation to the Fresnel integral, boundary correspondence of univalent harmonic mappings, the application of the Hilbert transform in two dimensional aerodynamics, finely open sets in the limit set of a finitely generated Kleinian group, scattering theory, harmonic and maximal measures for rational functions and the solution of the classical Dirichlet problem. In addition, this volume includes some problems in potential theory which were presented in the Problem Session at Hanstholm.

Approximation, Complex Analysis, and Potential Theory by Norair Arakelian,Paul M. Gauthier Pdf

Hermann Weyl considered value distribution theory to be the greatest mathematical achievement of the first half of the 20th century. The present lectures show that this beautiful theory is still growing. An important tool is complex approximation and some of the lectures are devoted to this topic. Harmonic approximation started to flourish astonishingly rapidly towards the end of the 20th century, and the latest development, including approximation manifolds, are presented here. Since de Branges confirmed the Bieberbach conjecture, the primary problem in geometric function theory is to find the precise value of the Bloch constant. After more than half a century without progress, a breakthrough was recently achieved and is presented. Other topics are also presented, including Jensen measures. A valuable introduction to currently active areas of complex analysis and potential theory. Can be read with profit by both students of analysis and research mathematicians.

The $p$-Harmonic Equation and Recent Advances in Analysis by Pietro Poggi-Corradini Pdf

Comprised of papers from the IIIrd Prairie Analysis Seminar held at Kansas State University, this book reflects the many directions of current research in harmonic analysis and partial differential equations. Included is the work of the distinguished main speaker, Tadeusz Iwaniec, his invited guests John Lewis and Juan Manfredi, and many other leading researchers. The main topic is the so-called p-harmonic equation, which is a family of nonlinear partial differential equations generalizing the usual Laplace equation. This study of p-harmonic equations touches upon many areas of analysis with deep relations to functional analysis, potential theory, and calculus of variations. The material is suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians interested in harmonic analysis and partial differential equations.

Positive Harmonic Functions and Diffusion by Ross G. Pinsky Pdf

In this book, Professor Pinsky gives a self-contained account of the theory of positive harmonic functions for second order elliptic operators, using an integrated probabilistic and analytic approach. The book begins with a treatment of the construction and basic properties of diffusion processes. This theory then serves as a vehicle for studying positive harmonic funtions. Starting with a rigorous treatment of the spectral theory of elliptic operators with nice coefficients on smooth, bounded domains, the author then develops the theory of the generalized principal eigenvalue, and the related criticality theory for elliptic operators on arbitrary domains. Martin boundary theory is considered, and the Martin boundary is explicitly calculated for several classes of operators. The book provides an array of criteria for determining whether a diffusion process is transient or recurrent. Also introduced are the theory of bounded harmonic functions, and Brownian motion on manifolds of negative curvature. Many results that form the folklore of the subject are here given a rigorous exposition, making this book a useful reference for the specialist, and an excellent guide for the graduate student.
