Sharing the Fire by Luce Irigaray Pdf

Whilst he broaches the theme of the difference between the sexes, Hegel does not go deep enough into the question of their mutual desire as a crucial stage in our becoming truly human. He ignores the dialectical process regarding sensitivity and sensuousness. And yet this is needed to make spiritual the relation between two human subjectivities differently determined by nature and to ensure the connection between body and spirit, nature and culture, private life and public life. This leads Hegel to fragment human subjectivity into yearnings for art, religion and philosophy thereby losing the unity attained through the cultivation of a longing for the absolute born of a desire for one another as different. Furthermore, our epoch of history is different from the Hegelian one and demands that we consider additional aspects of human subjectivity. This is essential if we are to overcome the nihilism inherent in our traditional metaphysics without falling into a worse nihilism due to a lack of rigorous thinking common today. The increasing power of technique and technologies as well as the task of building a world culture are two other challenges we face. Our sexuate belonging provides us with a universal living determination of our subjectivity – now a dual subjectivity - and also with a natural energy potential which allows us to use technical resources without becoming dependent on them.

Sacred Playgrounds by Jacob Sorenson Pdf

Sacred Playgrounds explores the wisdom of camping ministry for Christian education and faith formation, examining its rich history and fundamental characteristics with compelling stories, groundbreaking research, and theological grounding. Christian summer camp is an integral part of the ecology of faith formation in North America, though it has received surprisingly little attention in the scholarly community until now. Camping ministry is often dismissed as simple fun and games or a brief spiritual high that does not last. However, camp experiences often serve as deeply relational and immersive faith experiences that have lasting impacts on participants. Five fundamental characteristics combine dynamically in the effective camp experience: participatory, faith-centered, safe space, relational, and unplugged from home. Together, they open the space for participants to consider new understandings of God, to have time for deep self-reflection, and to build intentional Christian community. These camp experiences are essential components in a larger ecology of faith formation, including the home and congregation. The insight and evidence presented in this book demonstrate that the contributions of camping ministry must be taken seriously among scholars, Christian educators, and ministry professionals.

A Shared Fire - Part I by Roy Klabin Pdf

A Shared Fire is the first book in a trilogy of epic fantasies. It follows the adventures of four young friends, who find themselves lost in an unfamiliar reality. The group is forced to navigate a harrowing odyssey, full of difficult challenges and terrible dangers, as they desperately search for a way back home. Mark Pierson is a shy thirteen-year-old, who quietly mourns the recent loss of his mother and sister. Elise Mokette is a wild chaotic tomboy, and cares more about the various pets she keeps in her room than the expectations of her teachers or family. Bobby Kendell is an aloof outsider, slightly resentful of the clear purpose and direction his older brothers constantly exhibit. Naiyana Tanaka is a newcomer to town, who feels isolated by her alien presence in a culture she's still learning to understand. Despite their differing backgrounds, the children find great comfort in their shared friendship and after school adventures. While playing on a frozen lake together, the group plummets through the ice and drowns in the cold depths below. They awaken in a bizarre new world; their bodies altered by strange transformations and each wielding unique mystical abilities. The children navigate their new surroundings, desperately searching for a way back to Earth. They explore the realms, meeting outlandish creatures and learning about the powerful governing forces that shape their new plane of existence. But as they search for a way home, something malevolent seeks them out - hunting a precious treasure one of them unwittingly carries. Mark, Elise, Bobby, and Naiyana must face their greatest fears and band together to embark on an odyssey full of spectacular wonders and menacing dangers if they ever hope to see Earth again...

The Art of Fire by Daniel Hume Pdf

Fire can fascinate, inspire, capture the imagination and bring families and communities together. It has the ability to amaze, energise and touch something deep inside all of us. For thousands of years, at every corner of the globe, humans have been huddling around fires: from the basic and primitive essentials of light, heat, energy and cooking, through to modern living, fire plays a central role in all of our lives. The ability to accurately and quickly light a fire is one of the most important skills anyone setting off on a wilderness adventure could possess, yet very little has been written about it. Through his narrative Hume also meditates on the wider topics surrounding fire and how it shapes the world around us.

Re-playing Shakespeare in Asia by Poonam Trivedi,Minami Ryuta Pdf

In this critical volume, leading scholars in the field examine the performance of Shakespeare in Asia. Emerging out of the view that it is in "play" or performance, and particularly in intercultural / multicultural performance, that the cutting edge of Shakespeare studies is to be found, the essays in this volume pay close attention to the modes of transference of the language of the text into the alternative languages of Asian theatres; to the history and politics of the performance of Shakespeare in key locations in Asia; to the new Asian experimentation with indigenous forms via Shakespeare and the consequent revitalizing and revising of the traditional boundaries of genre and gender; and to Shakespeare as a cultural capital world wide. Focusing specifically on the work of major directors in the central and emerging areas of Asia – Japan, China, India, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines - the chapters in this volume encompass a broader and more representative swath of Asian performances and locations in one book than has been attempted till now.
