The Flight of International Capital by Brendan Brown Pdf

Originally published in 1987, The Flight of International Capital provides a fascinating comprehensive analysis of the history of international money movements. Taking 1931 as the turning point between old-style and modern methods of conducting monetary affairs, the book relates currency shifts and investment trends to political events. He deals with five eras in the history of international capital; the unsettled post-crash period 1931-1936; the flight of capital to the US before World War II; the dollar and Swiss Franc’s time as the only ‘hard monies’ till the late fifties; the emergence of the mark-dollar axis before 1971; and finally, the behaviour of floating currencies.

Attitude or Latitude? by Graham R. Braithwaite Pdf

Australia has an enviable record for airline safety - No one has ever died in an accident involving a commercial jet aircraft in Australia. The reasons behind this have been the source of much speculation and theories tend to focus on issues related to the natural environment and even luck. However, with human error being present in arguably 100% of aircraft accidents, it seems reasonable that a good safety record is at least partly the consequence of human intervention. This text uses Australian aviation as a case study of a safe system to explore the interactions between the natural, operational and human environments. Based on doctoral research including a major survey of pilot and air traffic controller perceptions, the book is unusual in that it looks at positive examples in safety rather than taking the traditional reactive approach to safety deficiencies.

Aviation Safety, Human Factors - System Engineering - Flight Operations - Economics - Strategies - Management by Hans M. Soekkha Pdf

Questions concerning safety in aviation attract a great deal of attention, due to the growth in this industry and the number of fatal accidents in recent years. The aerospace industry has always been deeply concerned with the permanent prevention of accidents and the conscientious safeguarding of all imaginable critical factors surrounding the organization of processes in aeronautical technology. However, the developments in aircraft technology and control systems require further improvements to meet future safety demands. This book embodies the proceedings of the 1997 International Aviation Safety Conference, and contains 60 talks by internationally recognized experts on various aspects of aviation safety. Subjects covered include: Human interfaces and man-machine interactions; Flight safety engineering and operational control systems; Aircraft development and integrated safety designs; Safety strategies relating to risk insurance and economics; Corporate aspects and safety management factors --- including airlines services and airport security environment.

Fault Detection and Flight Data Measurement by Ihab Samy,Da-Wei Gu Pdf

This book considers two popular topics: fault detection and isolation (FDI) and flight data estimation using flush air data sensing (FADS) systems. Literature surveys, comparison tests, simulations and wind tunnel tests are performed. In both cases, a UAV platform is considered for demonstration purposes. In the first part of the book, FDI is considered for sensor faults where a neural network approach is implemented. FDI is applied both in academia and industry resulting in many publications over the past 50 years or so. However few publications consider neural networks in comparison to traditional techniques such as observer based, parameter estimations and parity space approaches. The second part of this book focuses on how to estimate flight data (angle of attack, airspeed) using a matrix of pressure sensors and a neural network model. In conclusion this book can serve as an introduction to FDI and FADS systems, a literature survey, and a case study for UAV applications.

International Flight Operations by James Albright Pdf

Flying internationally can be a daunting task. This book presents what the FAA, ICAO, EASA, and others have to say on a subject and then breaks that down and explains it in an understandable way that is truly applicable to what you as the pilot need to know. The manual is organized first by the main pillars of international flight operations: negotiation, navigation, communications, surveillance, and abnormal procedures. It then presents a tutorial that takes you through the early decision-making processes, an oceanic crossing, and a flight around the world. Finally, it presents a 40-chapter appendix with everything you need to know that wasn't already covered. Topics as basic as how to plot and as esoteric as true course ten-degree tables are all part of the manual. Whether you are new to international operations or have flown internationally your whole career you will find this book to be the most complete resource available today.

Electric Flight Technology by Ravi Rajamani Pdf

The environmental impact of hydrocarbon-burning aircraft is one of the main motivations for the move to electric propulsion in aerospace. Also, cars, buses, and trucks are incorporating electric or hybrid-electric propulsion systems, reducing the pressure on hydrocarbons and lowering the costs of electrical components. The economies of scale necessitated by the automotive industry will help contain costs in the aviation sector as well. The use of electric propulsion in airplanes is not a new phenomenon. However, it is only recently that it has taken off in a concrete manner with a viable commercial future. The Electric Flight Technology: Unfolding of a New Future reviews the history of this field, discusses the key underlying technologies, and describes how the future for these technologies will likely unfold, distinguishing between all-electric (AE) and hybrid-electric (HE) architectures. Written by Dr. Ravi Rajamani, it covers the essential information needed to understand this new technology wave taking hold in the aerospace industry. The Electric Flight Technology: Unfolding of a New Future covers fundamental topics such as: • The history of electric propulsion, including its evolution from using traditional electricity, to solar power to batteries as sources to sustain propulsion and flight. • The various architectures being considered for electric aircraft, specifically small general aviation (GA) aircraft and larger business jets; single-aisle commercial aircraft; and larger twin-aisle commercial aircraft. • The various systems and subsystems of an electric aircraft, along with how various subsystems in the vehicle can be integrated in a more optimal manner. In the future, the existing tube-and-wing configuration will not be the only available architecture; instead we will be more likely to find an architecture where the propulsion system is embedded within the airframe. • The future trends in this arena and what we can expect to see in the next decade or so.
