NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • World War II brings together six remarkable young flight nurses, who face the challenges of war and its many heartbreaks and victories as unsung heroes, in this inspiring novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel. Audrey Parker’s life changes forever when Pearl Harbor is attacked on December 7, 1941. Her brother, a talented young Navy pilot, had been stationed there, poised to fulfill their late father’s distinguished legacy. Fresh out of nursing school with a passion and a born gift for helping others, both Audrey and her friend Lizzie suddenly find their nation on the brink of war. Driven to do whatever they can to serve, they enlist in the Army and embark on a new adventure as flight nurses. Risking their lives on perilous missions, they join the elite Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron and fly into enemy territory almost daily to rescue wounded soldiers from the battlefield. Audrey and Lizzie make enormous sacrifices to save lives alongside an extraordinary group of nurses: Alex, who longs to make a difference in the world; Louise, a bright mind who faced racial prejudice growing up in the South; Pru, a selfless leader with a heart of gold; and Emma, whose confidence and grit push her to put everything on the line for her patients. Even knowing they will not achieve any rank and will receive little pay for their efforts, the “Flying Angels” will give their all in the fight for freedom. They serve as bravely and tirelessly as the men they rescue on the front lines, in daring airlifts, and are eternally bound by their loyalty to one another. Danielle Steel presents a sweeping, stunning tribute to these incredibly courageous women, inspiring symbols of bravery and valor.

Angels in America at the British National Theatre by Emily Garside Pdf

Angels in America was one of the most significant pieces of American theatre in the 20th Century. Much has been written on Tony Kushner's epic drama. However, the National Theatre of Great Britain's productions of the show are relatively under-discussed. Not only was the National Theatre responsible for helping to originate the play in the early 1990s, but it helped revitalize interest in 2018 with Marianne Elliott's reimagined version starring Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane. This book considers the role of the National in the play's history, and how Elliott's production reframed the play 25 years after the original; it chronicles the tumultuous first production and the play's successes in London and New York. The book also looks at the key features of the play: its representation of AIDS, its status as an iconic gay play and its searing political commentary. Concluding with an in-depth analysis of Marianne Elliott's reimagining of the play, this book is an up-to-date history of Angels in America and a reflection on its continued importance.

Jingjiao by Roman Malek Pdf

The contributions in this volume were mostly first presented at the conference "Research on Nestorianism in China. Zhongguo jingjiao yanjiu 中國景教研究" held in Salzburg, 20– 26 May 2003. Like the conference, the volume explores the subject of "Nestorianism" (jingjiao, "Luminous Religion") in a variety of aspects. The material of the present collection is organized in five parts. The first part presents different aspects of the past and current research on jingjiao. The second part discusses jingjiao in the Tang dynasty, especially the question of the "Nestorian" texts and documents, their authenticity and theology. The third part deals with the "Nestorian" inscriptions and remains from the Yuan dynasty, especially from Quanzhou. Part four is dedicated to questions of the Church of the East in Central Asia and other historically relevant countries. The last part of the book presents a "Preliminary Bibliography on the Church of the East in China and Central Asia" prepared especially for this volume.

Piety and Politics in Qajar Iran by Nahid Massoumeh Assemi Pdf

The Takkiyya Mu'avin al-Mulk is a building complex in the city of Kermanshah in western Iran, dedicated to the annual commemoration of the martyrdom of Husayn ibn 'Ali at the Battle of Karbala in 680, an event of seminal significance to Shi'i Islam. Private takkiyyas built by social elites were a phenomenon of the Qajar period, with their construction motivated by a political quest for legitimacy. This book examines the intersection of art and architecture, popular piety, and the politics of legitimation. Through an examination of the building and its decorative programme, it addresses issues of patronage, Shi'i iconography and popular religious practices during the early 20th century in Iran. It further argues for the role of takkiyyas in creation of a sense of community and group identity; the formative stage of the emergent idea of nationhood at the time, amongst those who frequented them.

Waterslain Angels by Kevin Crossley-Holland Pdf

In the village of Waterslain in Norfolk, in the 1950s, a fragment from a carved angel's wing is discovered. Maybe the wooden angels that once supported the church roof were not, after all, destroyed centuries ago, but spirited away to safety. Two children decide to find them. There are few clues, but a strange inscription on the church wall leads them into terrifying places - up to the top of the church tower, down a tunnel where they are nearly drowned. Annie dreams of the man who was sent in by Cromwell to smash up the church, and of angels flying and falling. For Sandy, whose father, an American airman, was recently killed, the angels bring comfort. The whereabouts of the angels become clear to them - but then they discover that other people are hunting for them, and are determined to stop the children at all costs. The friendship between the boy adjusting to a new life in his mother's village, and the girl whose family have always lived on their remote farm, the haunting atmosphere of the Norfolk saltmarshes, and the strong sense of the past still present, give richness to a tense and fast-paced story of detection for younger readers.

The Destroyer and the Lamb by Matthias Reinhard Hoffmann Pdf

Matthias Reinhard Hoffmann identifies an angelomorphic portrait of Christ in certain passages of Revelation and provides possible reasons for the inclusion of an angelomorphic Christology: Angelomorphic Christology is not regarded as an isolated christological concept. In turn, the author compares angelomorphic Christology with the prominent Lamb Christology of Revelation. A comparison of these concepts reveals that both Lamb and angelomorphic Christology serve the purpose of contrasting different functions of Christ. The functions correspond with the implied perception of Christ by his followers on the one hand and his opponents on the other. Accordingly, Christ appears to be an eschatological juridical figure (described in angelomorphic patterns) to his opposition, while he is perceived as salvific redeemer (in form of the Lamb) by those who believe in him. Such a christological perspective draws on traditions from the Exodus narrative, namely the features of the Passover Lamb and the Destroying Angel. Further, equality between God and Christ is established despite an angelomorphic portrait of Christ: especially those passages describing Christ as the Lamb put him on par with God. But also within visions with an angelomorphic description of Christ, his status as superior to angels and as an equal to God is displayed.

They did good in Lakehurst, but their best work was done at sea aboard navy ships where they completed a number of missions, including their primary job: that of saving lives. For this, they earned the name Fleet Angels. Here is their history, their struggles, their heroics, and their humor. Some of the stories came from reports, and some from magazines and books. But the best—the ones that show the heart, courage, and determination of these sailors to get the job done, regardless of the cost—came from the men and women themselves who sent in their recollections for this book. “This book is comprehensive and compelling story about U.S. Naval Helicopter history. It is a tribute to the success of helicopter community and the aircrafts unique operations as well as its life saving capabilities. Barbara Marriott has created a great read and educationally important portrayal of the ingenious people who make up the U. S. Naval helicopter community.” —Captain Gene Pellerin (USN Retired)

Scribe's Treasure by Rev Marion H Gwynn Pdf

As both chemist and priest your scribe believes that the current gap between science and religion can be bridged largely by revelation. Revelation is a select part of religion, often beyond the ken or competence of qualified science. Types of revelation comprise the manifest supernatural and prophecy, fulfilled prophecy supporting what is yet to be fulfilled. The book offers answers and asks a variety of questions. This book is written in four sections, each with chapter-like and numbered subsections: Section 1 the most scriptural and salvational Section 2 the most prophetic or revelatory Section 3 the most scientific and integrative knowledge Section 4 the most semantic and hypothetic Section 1 Scripture, Old and New Testament, appears to be a rich source of revelation and other reliable spiritual reality. Its integrity distinguishes divine and human reporting, also religion versus irreligion. Jesus' early advent fulfilled dozens of Old Testament prophecies; divine evidence for the reliability of its revelation. Scripture reveals that Jesus of Nazareth walked among us, both man and God. Section 2 Section 2 comprise a commentary upon the Revelation to John. The prophecy concentrated therein is mysterious in part yet relatively ordered and culminating. It helps to organize other prophecy revealed in Scripture. And it serves to guide our on-going participation with the ascended Christ as Lord. Prophecy reveals that God has operated mightily in and on history, that he has revealed essential parts of his plan and care for mankind. Section 3 Without religion, science, particularly inanimate science, tends to support determinism, also a relatively rigid causation or rationalism. Science develops knowledge more than understanding. Section 3 attempts to assemble salient science together with a minor proportion of related hypotheses. Your scribe believes that God's concern and involvement and control of life is more intimate and profound than most science and philosophy has indicated. Section 4 The relatively hypothetic Section 4 comprises much supposition, some semantically treated. Suppositions are offered concerning material or systematic structures for said living sub matter in body, mind and soul. Life after first death is a gift from the soul's Creator. Spirits just and unjust await resurrection in the spirit, not in the flesh, not in reincarnation. Tthe soul is foundational to theology and tends to respond to spiritual reality, to living sub matter, particularly to God and other souls.

A Rebirth of Images by Austin Farrer Pdf

In this book St. John's Revelation is approached as a great and singular theological poem. The author tries to see how the poem arose in an inspired mind, by what processes of divination its author explored the realm of supernatural truth, how he used the images of his Old Testament faith and gave them fresh meaning in the context of his scheme. Here the reader may follow the workings of a late first-century Christian imagination in which the Scriptures and the stars, the liturgy of the temple and the magic of numbers, the elements of nature and the march of human history are closely interwoven.
