Forgive Me Father for I Have Sinned by Julia Villegas Phelps Pdf

Although there is a great deal of attention given – quite rightly so – to pedophile priests, my experience with clergy sexual abuse was also a nightmare. It started out by my being raped as a teenager by a priest who I thought I could trust and then being coerced into having an affair with him for fear of losing my children. A skilled manipulator, especially of vulnerable teenagers and young women who had challenges in their lives, we all thought a priest could help us overcome our particular situations. Once he gained my trust and pretended to be a friend, he set about a path to manipulate me toward a path to a living hell that put my spiritual health and soul in danger. I saw him as a man of the cloth, a man of God who would help me and my children without expecting anything in return. Little did I know I was not his fi rst victim, nor would I be his last, lured by his promises to leave the church for me, and by his word that God himself had sent him to save us.

Bless Me, Father, For I Have Sinned by Peter Caffrey Pdf

A boy is murdered inexplicably by someone he should have been able to trust, his parish priest. In a small town with a police force run by a veteran from the hard streets of a big city, this should have been an open-and-shut case. Everything pointed to the priest as the killer. The investigation revealed something very disturbing about the priest and his relationship to the boy, something unholy. But the power of the church intervened to thwart the investigation. Would justice prevail? How far would the church go to save its image? What happens when a person holds the ultimate power over another in their hands? Do they use it for good or to further their own needs? How can a group that purports to be the representative of the ultimate good harbor such evil? Frank Slater, the Chief of Police in a small western Massachusetts town, is pitted against the Archdiocese of Boston, whose tentacles of control reach all over New England and beyond. He is a savvy cop who, in his twenty years as a detective in Boston, thought he had seen everything. He was wrong. The evil that he uncovers shakes him to the very core, but it also furthers his resolve to bring this murderer to justice. The priest is transferred from parish to parish by the diocese in order to hide him. This provides him access to more soon-to-be victims. With the protection of the church, the priest felt invincible. Sprinkled with local color and stories, Bless Me, Father, for I Have Sinned provides the reader with a critical examination of the church's role in child abuse in the form of a story that will keep the pages turning only to pause to laugh, cry, to be enraged, or to reflect.

The Catholic Thing by Robert Royal Pdf

The Catholic "thing" - the concrete historical reality of Catholicism as a presence in human history - is the richest cultural tradition in the world. It values both faith and reason, and therefore has a great deal to say about politics and economics, war and peace, manners and morals, children and families, careers and vocations, and many other perennial and contemporary questions. In addition, it has inspired some of the greatest art, music, and architecture, while offering unparalleled human solidarity to tens of millions through hospitals, soup kitchens, schools, universities, and relief services. This volume brings together some of the very best commentary on a wide range of recent events and controversies by some of the very best Catholic writers in the English language: Ralph McInerny, Michael Novak, Fr. James V. Schall, Hadley Arkes, Robert Royal, Anthony Esolen, Brad Miner, George Marlin, David Warren, Austin Ruse, Francis Beckwith, and many others. Their contributions cover large Catholic subjects such as philosophy and theology, liturgy and Church dogma, postmodern culture, the Church and modern politics, literature, and music. But they also look into specific contemporary problems such as religious liberty, the role of Catholic officials in public life, growing moral hazards in bio-medical advances, and such like. The Catholic Thing is a virtual encyclopedia of Catholic thought about modern life.

Since My Last Confession by Paul Albano Pdf

Kathryn Donovan solved every puzzle that came her way...except for one. She has realized her marriage is crumbling. Thanks to her lackadaisical-natured husband, Kathryn takes it upon herself to concoct a sinful plan to mend the troubles at home: she will cheat on her husband and trick herself into falling back in love with him all for the sake of sparing her daughter the pain of a broken home. Meanwhile, the body of the senator's daughter is found in the middle of a secluded road, and being the grand puzzler Kathryn claims to be, she decides to tackle the mystery behind the death as well. But balancing her solution to extinguish marital issues and solve a possible murder becomes too much for Kathryn to handle. It is that which leads her to confess her adultery to the young Father Louis and guides her to her worst, and more importantly, unexpected affair. Kathryn begins to discover more than she bargained for the longer she is with him. What she also does not expect is the dark secret Father Louis is harboring the entire time he helps Kathryn see the true problems in her life, opening a door to Kathryn's life she wanted to keep shut by any means necessary. Since My Last Confession details the tragic story of a woman going farther than she ever dreamt of to secure a happiness she believes can still exist in her life while keeping her greatest fear at bay: losing her daughter, for it was all for her.

Core Christianity by Michael Horton Pdf

What beliefs are core to the Christian faith? This book is here to help you understand the reason for your hope as a Christian so that you can see it with fresh sight and invite others into the conversation. A lot of Christians take their story—the narratives that give rise to their beliefs—for granted. They pray, go to church, perhaps even read their Bible. But they might be stuck if a stranger asked them to explain what they believe and why they believe it. Author, pastor, and theologian Mike Horton unpacks the essential and basic beliefs that all Christians share in a way that is easy to understand and applicable to our lives today. And in a way that will make you excited to be a Christian! Core Christianity covers topics like: Jesus as both fully God and fully man. The doctrine of the Trinity. The goodness of God despite a broken world. The ways God speaks. The meaning of salvation. What is the Christian calling? Includes discussion questions for individual or group use. This introduction to the basic doctrines of Christianity is perfect for those who are new to the faith, as well as those who have an interest in deepening their understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Father Forgive Me, for I Have Sinned by Rama Pdf

He played imaginary name games while on the road and sometimes with other people if their name fit the schtick. Peculiar in other ways (never used ice, only drank Dr. Pepper), he was as quiet and ordinary as the neighbor next door. Yet he was a serial killer. Father, Forgive Me, for I Have Sinned has a few subthemes: addiction, confession and absolution, and sexual abuse in the church. Any of the five main male characters could be the killer, one who strangles young ladies, mostly in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Bible verses from the Psalms left at or near the scene of each murder offered few leads as to the perp or his motive. Theologians in New Orleans gave their opinions but were as stumped as law enforcement, unable to clearly profile the man. When local and regional police got close to identifying and apprehending him, the Gulf South Strangler moved to Carolina and Tennessee with the string of deaths following. Some serial killers are never found. Unlike the infamous serial killers of history, these deaths included no sexual or other physical abuse of the body. Funny how the simplest of rude childhood behaviors could change a man into a monster.
