Four Voices, One Testimony by James D Quiggle Pdf

Four Voices, One Testimony is a different kind of gospel harmony. The four gospel accounts are not in parallel columns, but are meticulously combined as one voice in a continuous narrative. The details of all Jesus said and did are more easily seen and studied when the four gospel accounts are viewed in a combined narrative. The translation of the four gospels is the Author's. The combined narrative is chronologically arranged into 182 numbered events. These events are easily located through the table of contents, by page number in the print version, and hyperlink in the digital versions. An example. In each numbered event the applicable gospel accounts are combined to present the story of Jesus Christ. The advantage is seeing the whole story with all the details in one narrative. Four Voices, One Testimony has five indexes for the gospel student: a list of events with scriptures; scripture indexes for each of the four gospels. Any gospel scripture may be located by using one of the indexes.

Epic by Brad Martin Pdf

Jesus Christ lived an epic life, yet reading about him can be an epic challenge. But what if the stories of Jesus from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were all combined into one story instead of four? And what if the stories were arranged in the order they happened? And what if they were translated into spoken American English? (Really!) And what if it read like a modern novel? What if we got rid of all those columns, and numbers, and references, and other people's notes? Now we are talking Epic!At last...the life of Jesus for anyone wanting to enjoy reading an Epic story (without dozing) and answer the question millions have asked..."Who is this man?"Part of the appeal of Epic is it's neutrality outside the Gospel accounts. The authors intentionally created this work and translation without surrounding commentary or opinion so that the life of Jesus can stand on its own. This will make it a great literary choice for schools and others who wish to read about Jesus without others including what they should believe or do with the story. The authors left out no detail from any gospel. This created quite the challenge to harmonize and synthesize every account. In the Kindle version, both the black and white and color versions are included. The color version of Epic assigns each gospel a color: Matthew/Blue, Mark/Red, Luke/Green, John/Purple. In this way, the reader is able to identify what each gospel author uniquely contributes to each story. Black print indicates that two or more authors wrote the same thing. This makes Epic a great tool for study.A table is included as an appendix for easy reference for all four gospels, and it is hypertexted in the Kindle version.

The Gospel of John by Frederick Dale Bruner Pdf

The author of a much-loved two volume Matthew commentary (1990) that he greatly revised and expanded fourteen years later, Frederick Dale Bruner now offers The Gospel of John: A Commentary -- more rich fruit of his lifetime of study and teaching. Rather than relying primarily on recent scholarship, Bruner honors and draws from the church's major John commentators throughout history, including Augustine, Chrysostom, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, Bultmann, Barrett, and many more. Alongside this "historical interpretation" is Bruner's own contemporary interpretation, which incorporates a lucid translation of the text, references to recent scholarship, and his pastoral application of the Gospel to present-day experience. Like Bruner's other work, this commentary is rich in biblical insights, broadly historical, and deeply theological. Here is what Eugene Peterson said about Bruner's earlier work on Matthew: "This is the kind of commentary I most want -- a theological wrestling with Scripture. Frederick Dale Bruner grapples with the text not only as a technical exegete (although he does that very well) but as a church theologian, caring passionately about what these words tell us about God and ourselves. His Matthew commentary is in the grand traditions of Augustine, Calvin, and Luther -- expansive and leisurely, loving the text, the people in it, and the Christians who read it." The same could well be said about the present John commentary, which promises to be another invaluable resource for pastors, teachers, and laypeople alike.

Following Rabbi Jesus by Phil Needham Pdf

Following Rabbi Jesus is a surprising exposure of who the Jesus we find in the Gospels really is, what he teaches those who dare to follow him, and how he models what it means to live God's radical-kingdom way. The reader of the book will discover in this exploration a very different Jesus from the celebrity or hero of much popular church culture, the tame, ineffective Jesus of compromised Christianity, and the inaccessible, conceptual Christ of much academic theology. The reader who takes the chance of honestly engaging the Jesus we meet in the Gospel stories may find an engaging and liberating contrast to the life he is now living. He may even want to make a turn or two, and start over.

Old Testament Quotations in the Fourth Gospel by M. J. J. Menken Pdf

From the very beginning of Christianity, Jesus' followers have tried to legitimize their views of him with the help of the Scriptures. This means that if we wish to understand the beginning of the Christian church and of Christian theology, we have to examine the early Christian use of the Old Testament. A conspicious way of using the Scriptures consists in directly quoting from them. Eleven OT quotations in the Fourth Gospel are the topic of this study. These eleven quotations (in fact the majority of John's OT quotations) differ from the known versions of the OT, but are not free paraphrases of the OT text, in some cases, it is not immediately clear from which passage precisely the evangelist quotes. This state of affairs raises the questions which OT passages in which versions John used and how and why the quotations were modified. In this study, the questions of source and of redaction are dealt with in their interrelationship. Can we adequately explain the form of a quotation by taking into account Johannine redaction of an OT passage in a textual form which we know which we can reasonably argue ? Results of research in the field of early Jewish and early Christian exegetical techniques and devices are of course taken into account. Each of the eleven quotations is scrutinized on the points of source and redaction. It appears that John mostly used the LXX, but that where that translation did not suit his purposes, he either translated the Hebrew himself or used an other translation. He modified the quotations in agreement with extant exegetical rules, and for christological reasons. This study gives new insight into an aspect of the early Christian use of Scripture.

Gospel of the Four by Peter B. Jones Pdf

This book demonstrates how all four Gospels parallel each other intrinsically without the anomalies frequently mentioned by many believers. The author carefully identifies and distinguishes differences and similarities in the four narrative accounts of the life and ministry of Jesus. He also provides passages in quotation and chapter, and verse references revealing the fact that Jesus made several different visits to towns in Galilee and Judea, purged the Temple on two occasions, and gave the Sermon on the Mount more than once. An examination of the timing and nature of the miracles also offers fresh insight into this aspect of Jesus' ministry. laymen in their search for additional truth. The mass of detail and cross-referencing should not deter the general Christian reader because the author has taken great care to present his argument and postulations in a coherent and accessible manner.
