Freckled Identical Twin Sisters by Lynn Morgan,Gail Pdf

Twins Gail and Lynn loved being twins growing up. They were protective of each other, counted on each other, and always had a partner in sports. They signed an unwritten oath to never rat on each other. That means they never admitted to doing something wrong or wild and crazy. They either both confessed they were guilty, or both confessed to being innocent. Their bond and loyalty were unbreakable, which the average person does not understand. When in trouble, they became one person with a united front. It was never discussed, just understood.

Twin Time by Olga Werby,Christopher Werby Pdf

Alex and Sasha are twin sisters, physically identical down to their freckles. But the resemblance is only skin deep-Sasha is profoundly autistic, while Alex is not. Sasha can't communicate and acts bizarrely, and the family revolves around her and her intense needs. Yet the aged, wealthy, and mysterious Aunt Nana seems to have a particular interest in both girls. Offering a helping hand, she encourages the family to move to San Francisco to be near her. And when the young twins discover a tunnel in Nana's tool shed, it leads them on a journey across the world and back 100 years in time. The tunnel is a pathway to the Firebird Estate, the home of their ancestors, located in rural Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century. Even more remarkable, through the effect that twisting time has on cognition, Sasha is not autistic when she's at the Firebird Estate. Now, growing up in two strikingly different times and places, the twins must face their separate destinies among the ravages of the incipient Russian Revolution. Can they save their families on both sides of the tunnel? Can they simultaneously stay true to their own hearts, to each other, and to the people they left behind? Each sister must face her own personal challenge-but only together can they discover their own future within their family's past.

Separated @ Birth by Anais Bordier,Samantha Futerman Pdf

Imagine one day opening Facebook and reading a message from a stranger that says, “I think we might be twins…don’t freak out…” It all began when design student Anaïs Bordier viewed a YouTube video and saw her own face staring back. After some research, Anaïs found that the Los Angeles actress Samantha Futerman was born in a South Korean port city called Busan on November 19, 1987—the exact same location and day that Anaïs was born. This propelled her to make contact—via Facebook. One message later, both girls wondered: Could they be twins? Thus begins their remarkable journey to build a relationship as sisters, continents apart. Over Facebook, Twitter, and Skype, they learned that they shared much more than a strikingly similar appearance. Eventually, they traveled to Korea together to discover more about the land of their separation. One of Facebook's Top Ten Stories of 2013, Separated @ Birth is a story that spans the world and peels back some of the complex and emotional layers of foreign adoption.

Black Evening by David Morrell Pdf

From the American heartland to the edge of Hell, David Morrell (bestselling author of such classics as First Blood and The Brotherhood of the Rose) has consistently redefined the modern thriller. Now he turns to a darker side of suspense in a powerful collection of tales, many of them award winners. Prefaced by revealing autobiographical introductions, they delve into the weird, uncanny terrors that lurk just beneath the comforting surfaces of daily life. Fear of loss, fear of pain, fear of madness, fear of being trapped, fear of the unspeakable horrors that fester deep within the soul. . . . No matter who or where you are, fear is always with you, always ready to attack from behind the masks of thoughts and dreams. In this career-spanning examination of his life and the fears we all share, let David Morrell tell you a story . . . “For These and All My Sins” —a motorist in need of help finds himself in a town where everyone is disfigured . . . and discovers too late the terrifying reason they became that way . . . “The Beautiful Uncut Hair of Graves”—Both your parents die suddenly. Going through their legal papers, you find adoption records, dated at your birthday . . . but every official document has vanished, along with your biological mother . . . “Orange Is for Anguish, Blue for Insanity”—Beneath the placid, beautiful landscapes of a master artist’s paintings are levels of meaning that hide deep layers of pain . . . and unearthly nightmares . . . “Dead Image”—You know that that Hollywood stars think fame is more important than life itself . . . but you don’t realize the half of it . . . (There’s a lot of James Dean in this story.) “The Shrine”—Parents grieving for their dead children find a hidden place that offers lost hope . . . or eternal madness . . .

Deliberately Divided by Nancy L. Segal Pdf

A 2022 Choice Reviews Outstanding Academic Title Takes the first in-depth look at the New York City adoption agency that separated twins and triplets in the 1960s, and the controversial and disturbing study that tracked the children’s development while never telling their adoptive parents that they were raising a “singleton twin.” In the early 1960s, the head of a prominent New York City Child Development Center and a psychiatrist from Columbia University launched a study designed to track the development of twins and triplets given up for adoption and raised by different families. The controversial and disturbing catch? None of the adoptive parents had been told that they were raising a twin—the study’s investigators insisted that the separation be kept secret. Here, Nancy Segal reveals the inside stories of the agency that separated the twins, and the collaborating psychiatrists who, along with their cadre of colleagues, observed the twins until they turned twelve. This study, far outside the mainstream of scientific twin research, was not widely known to scholars or the general public until it caught the attention of documentary filmmakers whose recent films, Three Identical Strangers and The Twinning Reaction, left viewers shocked, angered, saddened and wanting to know more. Interviews with colleagues, friends and family members of the agency’s psychiatric consultant and the study’s principal investigator, as well as a former agency administrator, research assistants, journalists, ethicists, attorneys, and—most importantly--the twins and their families who were unwitting participants in this controversial study, are riveting. Through records, letters and other documents, Segal further discloses the investigators’ attempts to engage other agencies in separating twins, their efforts to avoid media exposure, their worries over informed consent issues in the 1970s and the steps taken toward avoiding lawsuits while hoping to enjoy the fruits of publication. Segal's spellbinding stories of the twins’ separation, loss and reunion offers readers the behind-the-scenes details that, until now, have been lost to the archives of history.

Don't Slam the Screen Door! by Janette Navickas Dehner Pdf

Don’t Slam The Screen Door is a bedtime storybook inspired from a time before kids were lost to technology. I wanted to write about adventures from my own memorable childhood beyond my own back door. The hope is to motivate boys and girls each night, one chapter and one adventure at a time to explore their surroundings with their young minds and imaginations. Equally important was to model a reminder to dads and moms that it does not take much to stimulate a child’s creativeness. A little schooling never hurt anyone is the philosophy behind the twin’s names which were intentionally chosen. Selected as a strategically play of words by creating a tongue twister of sorts to get kids to articulate and identify slight word differences while reading. I chuckle to think of my own grandchildren correcting my pronunciation when I am reading to them. Also, with our own names being similar in sound and spelling, it was a life experience my twin sister and I personally identified with. Foremost, I wanted this to be a Christian based book, weaving the simplicity of knowing and having a relationship with the Lord. Placing bible scripture at the end of each chapter, in faith the verse becomes a tangible teaching tool pointing to Our Father’s Word. In hope of initiating inquisitive minds to simply open discussion of wanting to know of the scripture’s source, the Holy Bible. Don’t Slam The Screen Door was truly inspired out of love for Our Father, family and my sisters, Juleen, Jeanette and Joette. God Bless, Janette Navickas Dehner

Murder by the Book? by Sally Rowena Munt Pdf

Murder by the Book? is a thorough - and thoroughly enjoyable - look at the blossoming genre of the feminist crime novel in Britain and the United States. Sally Munt asks why the form has proved so attractive as a vehicle for oppositional politics; whether the pleasures of detective fiction can be truly transgressive; and when exactly it was that the dyke detective appeared as the new super-hero for today. Along the way Munt poses some critical questions about the relations between fiction and activism, politics and representations, the writer and the reader. This will be an enticing book both for addicts of the genre and for teachers and their students.

Memoirs of Cpl. Ira I. Boggs (1895 – 1983) by Dallas Boggs Pdf

Ira I. Boggs (1895-1983), a veteran of World War I, was a West Virginia mountaineer as rugged as the mountains in which he lived most of his life. He survived by practicing his strong Christian faith, toughened by hard work while growing up in a large family sustained only by the fat of the land and the sweat of the brow. His machine gun battalion was alternately labeled Pershing’s Pets and the Sightseeing Battalion because they followed behind the main front and traveled extensively while in ready reserve for their final sacrifice. A less envious title for a machine gun unit was The Suicide Troops. (In battle, they had an average life expectancy of seven minutes.) He was on his way to the active front when the armistice was declared, but he narrowly escaped some enemy bombs when his unit lit up their campfires in a premature anticipation of cease-fire. His extensive travels gave him a special appreciation for the natural beauty of his home state, and he had a rare talent for describing it.
