Free at Last in Paradise by Ananda W. P. Guruge Pdf

FREE AT LAST IN PARADISE is a historical novel on Sri Lanka. It is the first part of A SRI LANKAN TRILOGY FROM FREEDOM TO PEACE and deals with the period 1848 to 1948 when the country evolved into a modern nation and regained independence. It is a gripping novel tracing the path of the freedom movement, in then Ceylon from the 1848 rebellion to Independence in 1948. It features a Buddhist boy; a young novice in a temple, later educated in missionary schools, becomes a government functionary, a forest monk and still later an erudite scholar, whose life parallels the freedom movement driven mainly by the Buddhist revival led by Colonel Henry Steel Olcott and his followers Anagarika Dharmapala and Sir Baron Jayatilake. The hero was a strong nationalist, deeply involved in the movement most of his adult life. Though a work of epic proportions, full of information masterfully dissecting every aspect of social and family life, with all its strains of caste and class, as well as the political and cultural scene of Ceylon at the time, it is a triumphant love story, that is by turns dramatic and powerful, romantic and tender that makes you want to keep reading. Displaying the author's dexterity, the most readable prose is appropriately laced with exhilarating verse. This is an extraordinary novel that exemplifies the best of historical fiction. Somehow he has managed to make the story both educational and, dare I say it, fun! “The book will be read with pleasure," says David Vickery of Britain, "by those who love Ceylon and introduce those who have no knowledge of the country to a fascinating society." Leslie Gray M.D. of Denver, Colorado, USA, in his review published in the Journal of Theosophical History, says, “a magnum opus, a masterpiece from any angle. Elegant style, eloquent language, relentless tempo, exciting and almost galloping.”

Free at Last? by Carl F. Ellis Pdf

The words of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech have become enshrined in US history. But after the end of King's generation of leadership, what happened to the African American struggle for freedom? Like the ancient Israelites, the African American community has survived a four-hundred-year collective trauma. What will it take for them to reach the promised land that King foresaw—to be truly free at last? In this classic historical and cultural study, Carl Ellis offers an in-depth assessment of the state of African American freedom and dignity. Stressing how important it is for African Americans to reflect on their roots, he traces the growth of Black consciousness from the days of slavery to the 1990s, noting especially the contributions of King and Malcolm X. Ellis examines elements of Black culture and offers a distinct perspective on how God is active in culture more broadly. Free at Last? concludes with a call for new generations of "jazz theologians" and cultural prophets to revitalize the African American church and expand its cultural range. The book also includes a helpful glossary of people, events, and terms. Ellis writes, "It is my prayer that the principles contained in this book will play a role in building bridges of understanding and facilitating reconciliation where there has been alienation." With a new preface by the author, this groundbreaking book is now available as part of the IVP Signature Collection.

Free At Last by Tony Benn Pdf

Tony Benn is the longest serving MP in the history of the Labour Party. He left Parliament in 2001, after more than half a century in the House of Commons, to devote more time to politics. This volume of his Diaries describes and comments, in a refreshing and honest way, upon the events of a momentous decade including two world wars, a change of government in Britain and the emergence of New Labour, of which he makes clear he is not a member. Tony Benn's account is a well documented, formidable and principled critique of the New Labour Project, full of drama, opinion, humour, anecdotes and sparkling pen-portraits of politicians on both sides of the political divide. But his narrative is also broader and more revealing about day-to-day political life, covering many aspects normally disregarded by historians and lobby correspondents, relating to his work in the constituency, including his advice surgeries. This volume also offers far more of an insight into Tony Benn's personal life, his thoughts about the future and his relationship with his family, especially his remarkable wife Caroline, whose illness and death overshadow these years. Tony Benn is a unique figure on the British political landscape: a true democrat, a passionate socialist and diarist without equal. With this volume, his published Diaries cover British politics for over sixty years. It is edited, as are all others, by Ruth Winstone.

The book is a straightforward commentary on the New Testament book of Galatians, proceeding mostly verse by verse. I make frequent application to the ways contemporary cult leaders and teachers and spiritually abusive pastors misinterpret and misapply the teachings of the scriptures.

Free at Last! by Manuel Borda Pdf

Paul survives an attempt on his life, only to learn that both his sons are tragically lost at sea. He is not only physically weak and emotionally barren, but loses all hope for the future and resorts to a suicide attempt. When this fails, he nurtures a deep hatred for God, whom he once trusted. After his encounter with an atheist, his hatred for God turns to disbelief, and he enthusiastically reviews the material provided by his new atheist friend to prove that there really is no supreme being. Paul’s old friendship with a Catholic monk and other friends fails to alter his new views about atheism. On the contrary, he mocks the monk’s arguments that there is a supreme being. But Paul is a professional, trained in objectivity, and faced with conflicting concepts, he embarks on the search for truth. For his peace of mind, he tries to satisfy this urge by deepening his research on both diverging notions. Only a chance meeting with a tramp leads him to the road of reconciling his views. This tramp was once wealthy; losing his wife and fortune he accepts his fate, relying only on a caring God. Convinced that he has discovered the path to be free at last, Paul divests himself of all entanglements. Publisher's website: http: //sbprabooks.com/ManuelBorda

Free at Last is a collection of experiences and stories about the spiritual journey of a dying man and on how he finds integrity on the steps leading to the gates of hell. Jay Bluerock will take you on a sacred journey, where you will experience adventures that will challenge you in ways that you do not expect. So go with Jay on this sacred adventure from childhood to adulthood. Travel with him when, as a child, he experienced his first sacred adventure at the family cabin, which is nestled in beside Big Rock River and the Cascade Mountains. Follow him along the path of his adolescent years in high school and read about how he fell in love for the first time and was honored to be associated student-body president and, later, won a basketball scholarship to play basketball at Starbright University. After reading about these adventures, let yourself go into his past more, and he will show you how reading a spiritual book inspired him to hitchhike around the United States as he was trying to find his guru. You’ll understand how this experience changed his life. Then read about his involvement in the social revolution here in the United States in the sixties and seventies. He will want to take you into the stories about what it was like to be a draft resister and what he went through in order to marry a beautiful and wealthy undergraduate student at Starbright University. See what it was like to be on trial for draft resistance and win. Then learn how he helped create the first free alternative elementary school in the state of Washington. As you continue to travel with him, you’ll see what it was like to be an alcoholic and addict. You’ll witness how the insanity of the disease led him into a divorce and how he survived it all on his way to recovery. Finally, he shares with you what it was like for him to live as a clean and sober Christian living in today’s world.

Free at Last by Tony Evans Pdf

This reader says it best: 'Tony Evans explores the problem of Christians who continue to sin and who do not fully utilize the freedom they have received in Christ. He compares Satan to a plantation owner who knows that legally his slaves have been freed, but who tries to convince them that they'll never make it in this world without him. He says that sometimes we need to make it to rock bottom before we realize that 'Christ IS the Rock at the bottom.' This is a very inspiring and encouraging book, both for those who have not confessed Christ and for those who have been Christians for many years.
