Freebirth - Self-Directed Pregnancy and Birth by Sarah Schmid Pdf

Having a baby, just like that? Without hospital, midwife or instructions to push? Babies are sometimes born before the midwife can get there and when that happens, everyone involved is usually happy everything went well despite the lack of professionals. But how does it work for women who consciously decide to have a so-called 'freebirth' and decline antenatal care as well as conventional monitoring by birth professionals? Sarah Schmid explains how to make self-directed birth a joyous experience. She also answers important questions around taking responsibility for your own pregnancy and birth, such as: How can I improve my health during pregnancy? How can I determine the baby's position myself and optimise it? Is it possible to know if my baby is well without listening to the heartbeat? What can I do if my labour does not progress? What do I do if the cord is around the baby's neck? What should I do if there is meconium in the amniotic fluid? Freebirth after caesarean birth or with a breech baby - is it possible? Can I give birth by myself even if the pregnancy ends too soon? In 'Freebirth' Sarah Schmid provides a healthy dose of basic medical knowledge and dispels scary myths about birth. This also makes 'Freebirth' valuable for those women planning to birth their babies in a conventional setting, as well as for birth professionals. Also in this book: Numerous illustrations personal stories by over 30 mothers about planned and unplanned freebirths, including photos helpful tips for the early days with a newborn * 'Trust your feelings and ask 1000 questions when it comes to the birth of your baby. Good births are not easy to find, only the best is good enough for you ' (Caroline, 37, freebirth after previous caesarean section) 'Birth means becoming a woman and discovering the roaring lioness within yourself.' (Beatrice, 36, two freebirths) 'Birth is part of life and it is not something that requires surveillance.' (Sarah, 32, three fre"

Unassisted Childbirth by Laura Kaplan Shanley Pdf

This book reveals how giving birth is an inherently safe, relatively painless process that is best performed without the assistance of doctors or midwives, and how confidence and a positive attitude reduces fear—and therefore the pain—of labor. According to Laura Kaplan Shanley, a renowned leader in the natural-birth movement, human birth is inherently safe and relatively painless—provided we refrain from physical or psychological interference. The problems often associated with birth can be traced to three main factors: poverty, unnecessary medical intervention, and fear. When these causes are eliminated, most women can give birth either alone or with the help of a partner, friends, or family. This second edition of Unassisted Childbirth leads with a history of childbirth and then describes how most deliveries occur today, detailing why these processes don't serve mothers or babies. The information in this unique book gives women yet another legitimate choice in childbirth that doesn't rely on doctors and technology, and allows parents, birth professionals, and general readers to reexamine their most basic ideas about birth and learn to think in new ways.

Birthing Outside the System by Hannah G. Dahlen,Bashi Kumar-Hazard,Virginia Schmied Pdf

This book investigates why women choose 'birth outside the system' and makes connections between women's right to choose where they birth and violations of human rights within maternity care systems. Choosing to birth at home can force women out of mainstream maternity care, despite research supporting the safety of this option for low-risk women attended by midwives. When homebirth is not supported as a birthplace option, women will defy mainstream medical advice, and if a midwife is not available, choose either an unregulated careprovider or birth without assistance. This book examines the circumstances and drivers behind why women nevertheless choose homebirth by bringing legal and ethical perspectives together with the latest research on high-risk homebirth (breech and twin births), freebirth, birth with unregulated careproviders and the oppression of midwives who support unorthodox choices. Stories from women who have pursued alternatives in Australia, Europe, Russia, the UK, the US, Canada, the Middle East and India are woven through the research. Insight and practical strategies are shared by doctors, midwives, lawyers, anthropologists, sociologists and psychologists on how to manage the tension between professional obligations and women's right to bodily autonomy. This book, the first of its kind, is an important contribution to considerations of place of birth and human rights in childbirth.

Birth Settings in America by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine,Health and Medicine Division,Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education,Board on Children, Youth, and Families,Committee on Assessing Health Outcomes by Birth Settings Pdf

The delivery of high quality and equitable care for both mothers and newborns is complex and requires efforts across many sectors. The United States spends more on childbirth than any other country in the world, yet outcomes are worse than other high-resource countries, and even worse for Black and Native American women. There are a variety of factors that influence childbirth, including social determinants such as income, educational levels, access to care, financing, transportation, structural racism and geographic variability in birth settings. It is important to reevaluate the United States' approach to maternal and newborn care through the lens of these factors across multiple disciplines. Birth Settings in America: Outcomes, Quality, Access, and Choice reviews and evaluates maternal and newborn care in the United States, the epidemiology of social and clinical risks in pregnancy and childbirth, birth settings research, and access to and choice of birth settings.

Pain-Free Childbirth by Nissa Andrews Pdf

It's true; I've had 4 babies naturally without pain and not one tear-four pregnancies without morning sickness and complications. I've had four wonderful postpartum experiences. The great news is that this same experience is available to every woman through Jesus. Before I became pregnant with my first, I had a preconceived notion that labor pretty much sucks. The world says it's going to be awful and extremely painful. Writhing in pain and begging for drugs is what friends, family, movies, and social media tell us. I heard it all and believed that was the way it's supposed to be.This book's purpose is to take you through my journey of breaking free from the world system of what birthing looks like and exchange it for the Kingdom, His righteousness, and what God intended for all women to experience. This book has scriptures that will open your eyes to blessings you may have never realized are yours to receive. Many people have said to me that I'm either lying or have a special superhuman gift. The truth is, I do have a special superhuman gift, and His name is Jesus! If you have Jesus, I am no different than you. We have the same supernatural abilities and anointing, for we have the same anointed one in us. If you do not know Jesus yet, I pray that my testimony will open your heart to seek Him and find the truth.

(Its) other defining feature, the husband’s active participation in the delivery, is critical to this overall goal of an intervention-free birth.”—Mothering

COVID-19 and Women's Health, 2nd edition by Stephen Kennedy,Laura A. Magee,Stacey A. Missmer,Jayashri Kulkarni,Vassiliki Benetou,Marianne Vidler,Chelsea Morroni Pdf

As a result of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the world is facing one of the greatest challenges we have experienced in over a century. The economic consequences for society at large are potentially catastrophic. The health and social care sectors have reacted by providing emergency care on an unprecedented scale, while the scientific community has focused on developing new treatments and a vaccine to prevent future waves of the pandemic. Evidence is emerging to suggest that certain conditions, such as obesity and hypertension, predispose some individuals to a worse outcome if they become infected, and that women may be less likely to die from COVID-19 than men. It is also currently believed that pregnant women are at no greater risk than the general population. There is an urgent need to determine whether these early observations are correct. Furthermore, we need to be sure that pregnancy outcomes are not affected by COVID-19 and that SARS-CoV-2 is not transmitted to the fetus during pregnancy or labour, nor to the infant through breast milk. There are so many questions that need to be answered to optimise care, avoid harm, reduce anxiety amongst women and their families, and inform health professionals and policymakers. We also need to understand the unintended consequences of the global lockdown on women’s health in general. For example, have rates of domestic violence risen; to what extent has women’s mental health been affected and have women successfully adapted or devised new coping mechanisms; have women been denied access to gynaecological treatments during the lockdown, including safe abortion and, if so, with what impact on their health and wellbeing; has the female work-force suffered disproportionately in economic terms; have national and international recommendations and policies been sufficiently gender neutral; have breastfeeding rates been adversely affected; will COVID-19 make attainment of the UN SDGs more difficult, etc.? In keeping with the Scope & Mission of Frontiers in Global Women’s Health, this Research Topic aims to provide a multi-disciplinary platform to answer important COVID-19 related questions that specifically impact upon women’s health and wellbeing, particular in resource-poor settings. The Topic Editors welcome a broad range of contributions including Original Research, Reviews, Commentaries, Study Protocols and Systematic Reviews. We would like to acknowledge Dr. Nathalie MacDermott and Dr. Rhiannon George-Carey who have have acted as coordinators and have contributed to the preparation of the proposal for this Research Topic. ***Given the exceptional nature of the COVID-19 situation, Frontiers is waiving all article publishing charges for COVID-19-related research in this Research Topic. Please note that manuscripts must be submitted by the deadline of December 31st.***
