Freemasonry Its Symbolism, Religious Nature, and Law of Perfection (Classic Reprint) by Chalmers I. Paton Pdf

Excerpt from Freemasonry Its Symbolism, Religious Nature, and Law of Perfection Worthy of translation into French, German, or any other language - no modification whatever would be needed. I have written as a Christian, and perhaps, therefore, the work may be deemed more suitable to Freemasons who are Christians than to those of other religions. It would have been wrong, and contrary to the laws of Christianity and of Freemasonry, for me to disguise or conceal my religious sentiments. And whilst Freemasonry delights in opening its portals to all - whatever their religious creed - who hold the great fundamental principles of religion already mentioned, yet, as it has for many ages prevailed chiefly amongst Christian nations, its teachings have been very largely imbued with Christianity, and very many symbols are in general use which admit of no explanation apart, from that religion and from the Holy Bible, which in Christian countries is placed upon the altar of every Lodge, read at every meeting, carried in every Masonic procession, and acknowledged as the Great Light of Freemasonry. If the present work, therefore, should be found more entirely suited to the views of Christian Freemasons than of others, I entertain a perfect confidence that it contains nothing which any Brother - Jew, Mahommedan, or Parsee - can deem offensive. In conclusion, I beg leave to state that I have bestowed much study on the subjects treated of in this work. I do not lay before my readers hastily formed opinions; and I hope, therefore, that many may derive pleasure, and that many may derive instruction from these pages. It would be most gratifying to know, and a sufficient reward for much labour, that the work was generally found acceptable by my Brethren, and that it was extensively useful but I would feel much satisfaction in the thought that I had been able to contribute to the gratification, or the more substantial benefit, even of a single Brother. The Symbolism of Freemasonry (Annotated Edition) by Albert G. Mackey Pdf

Of the various modes of communicating instruction to the uninformed, the masonic student is particularly interested in two; namely, the instruction by legends and that by symbols. It is to these two, almost exclusively, that he is indebted for all that he knows, and for all that he can know, of the philosophic system which is taught in the institution. All its mysteries and its dogmas, which constitute its philosophy, are intrusted for communication to the neophyte, sometimes to one, sometimes to the other of these two methods of instruction, and sometimes to both of them combined. The Freemason has no way of reaching any of the esoteric teachings of the Order except through the medium of a legend or a symbol. Contents: Preface. I. Preliminary. II. The Noachidæ. III. The Meaning Of Masonry (Annotated Edition) by W. L. Wilmshurst Pdf

This most interesting and illuminative work is worthy a place on every Mason's bookshelf. '' It seems taken for granted," says the author, "that reception into the Order will automatically be accompanied by an ability to appreciate forthwith and at its full value all that one there finds. The contrary is the case, for Masonry is a veiled and cryptic expression of the difficult science of spiritual life, and the understanding of it calls for special and informed guidance on the one hand, and on the other a genuine and earnest desire for knowledge and no small capacity for spiritual perception on the part of those seeking to be instructed." In Freemasonry, as in all phases of life, many are called but few are chosen. Masonry is not a mere formalism but a life to be lived. If you do not live the life you cannot know the doctrine. Masonry is an effort to perpetuate the essential doctrines of the Ancient Mysteries, but, alas, it does so in a very perfunctory manner. So veiled are its allegories and symbols that it is almost impossible to penetrate into the Holy of Holies.

The Symbolism of Freemasonry by Albert Gallatin Mackey Pdf

Albert Mackey was a prolific author about Freemasonry and an American doctor. Mackey's Symbolism of Freemasonry: Its Science, Philosophy, Legends, Myths, and Symbols is one of Mackey's works that has been revised and updated by editor Robert Ingham Clegg. In the book's preface, Clegg outlines that the only way to fully grasp Freemasonry is through careful study of the legends, myths, and symbols of the organization. The purpose of this book is thus to provide the reader with a detailed exploration of Freemasonry through an examination of its important symbols. The book is composed of thirty-two chapters, each of which examines various legends and myths of Freemasonry. Specific topics discussed include the primitive origins of Freemasonry, the symbolism of Solomon's temple, the rite of discalceation, the legends of Freemasonry, the stone of foundation, and many more. The book concludes with a detailed index, making this text useful as a reference guide. Mackey's Symbolism of Freemasonry is intended for a Freemasonry neophyte. The book is designed as an introduction to this sometimes mysterious fraternal organization with medieval roots. The author's approach of examining symbols and legends as a means to understanding Freemasonry is an appropriate choice and will serve to greatly expand the reader's knowledge. The prose is easy to follow, making this nearly 400-page collection a relatively simple read. If you are at all interested in Freemasonry, Mackey's Symbolism of Freemasonry is a great place to start. Informative, illuminating, and entertaining, this book is recommended to all inquisitive minds. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The History of Freemasonry, Its Legends and Traditions, Its Chronological History, Vol. 7 by Albert Gallatin Mackey Pdf

Excerpt from The History of Freemasonry, Its Legends and Traditions, Its Chronological History, Vol. 7: The History of the Symbolism of Freemasonry, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and the Royal Order of Scotland The abstruse calculations which accompanied the sciences of geometry and arithmetic are no longer necessary to Freemasonry as an institution purely speculative; and they were accordingly omitted in the revised system, as it was recommended to the notice of the Fraternity by the Grand Lodge in 1 71 7, and we retain only the beau tiful theory of these sciences, with their application to the practice of morality, founded on the power and goodness of T. G. A. O. T. U. It would be an injustice to our Brethren of the last century to believe that they did not entertain a profound veneration for the principles of the Masonic order. But the customs and habits of the people of England, living in that day, differed materially from our own.
