From Whence I Came by Brian Murphy,Donnacha Ó Beacháin Pdf

Elected in 1960 as the 35th President of the USA, John Fitzgerald Kennedy remains to this day the office’s youngest incumbent and he was its first Roman Catholic. His term in office was short, but arguably no US President has inspired more people around the globe than JFK. Even today, for generations born decades after his death, President Kennedy’s legacy has an enduring appeal. This insightful book contains specially commissioned pieces by a range of respected academic and political figures, including former Obama speechwriter, Cody Kennan, the President of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organisation, Kerry Kennedy, and former senior adviser to Bernie Sanders, Tad Devine. With the presidency of Joe Biden seeing a renewed focus on broader themes within Irish, American and global politics, From Whence I Came is a fascinating and timely collection that offers a fresh perspective on the Kennedy legacy and the politics of Ireland and the United States.

Whence They Came by Barbara Ann Roberts Pdf

Until recently, immigration policy was largely in the hands of a small group of bureaucrats, who strove desperately to fend off "offensive" peoples. Barbara Roberts explores these government officials, showing how they not only kept the doors closed but also managed to find a way to get rid of some of those who managed to break through their carefully guarded barriers. Robert's important book explores a dark history with an honest and objective style. Published in English.

Money by John Kenneth Galbraith Pdf

Money is nothing more than what is commonly exchanged for goods or services, so why has understanding it become so complicated? In Money, renowned economist John Kenneth Galbraith cuts through the confusions surrounding the subject to present a compelling and accessible account of a topic that affects us all. He tells the fascinating story of money, the key factors that shaped its development, and the lessons that can be learned from its history. He describes the creation and evolution of monetary systems and explains how finance, credit, and banks work in the global economy. Galbraith also shows that, when it comes to money, nothing is truly new—least of all inflation and fraud.

The Gospel of Wealth by Andrew Carnegie Pdf

This is an article written by Andrew Carnegie in June of 1889 that describes the responsibility of philanthropy by the new upper class of self-made rich. Carnegie proposed that the best way of dealing with the new phenomenon of wealth inequality was for the wealthy to utilize their surplus means in a responsible and thoughtful manner. This approach was contrasted with traditional bequest (patrimony), where wealth is handed down to heirs, and other forms of bequest e.g., where wealth is willed to the state for public purposes.

Homo Sapiens by Nathan Shasho Pdf

I believe human evolution is in its infancy. We were hunter-gathers before speech development; we probably experienced ourselves as another species. Since we were predators and a food source for other predators, we were a rung on the food chain. We contributed to the balance and the symbiosis of nature. With the latest edition of the cerebral cortex came speech, the written word, and self-awareness. It also led to the fact that we 'forgot' that we were just other mammals and experienced ourselves as separate entities and not an animal. With the evolution of our intelligence came what we refer to as civilization. With that intelligence, we developed weapons and hunting skills to become the dominant predator on the planet. In the 21st century, nothing has changed that much. We still seem to act and behave outside of the natural world despite our scientific knowledge. It is understandable since we are the only species with self-awareness. We do not contribute to the symbiosis of the food chain and only disturb and destroy the symbiosis of the natural world. Evolutionary science has linked us to our closest DNA relative and great ape primate. The behavior of this primate eerily resembles the history of human behavior. I believe that Homo sapiens have inherited the DNA of our closest cousins, the chimpanzee, and at least in part explains the extremely aggressive territorial behavior that humans possess. This is a book about how we got to now.

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr Pdf

*NOW A NETFLIX LIMITED SERIES—from producer and director Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) starring Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Laurie, and newcomer Aria Mia Loberti* Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award finalist, the beloved instant New York Times bestseller and New York Times Book Review Top 10 Book about a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II. Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is twelve, the Nazis occupy Paris, and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel. In a mining town in Germany, the orphan Werner grows up with his younger sister, enchanted by a crude radio they find. Werner becomes an expert at building and fixing these crucial new instruments, a talent that wins him a place at a brutal academy for Hitler Youth, then a special assignment to track the Resistance. More and more aware of the human cost of his intelligence, Werner travels through the heart of the war and, finally, into Saint-Malo, where his story and Marie-Laure’s converge. Doerr’s “stunning sense of physical detail and gorgeous metaphors” (San Francisco Chronicle) are dazzling. Deftly interweaving the lives of Marie-Laure and Werner, he illuminates the ways, against all odds, people try to be good to one another. Ten years in the writing, All the Light We Cannot See is a magnificent, deeply moving novel from a writer “whose sentences never fail to thrill” (Los Angeles Times).
