Harmonic Analysis, Partial Differential Equations, Banach Spaces, and Operator Theory (Volume 2) by María Cristina Pereyra,Stefania Marcantognini,Alexander M. Stokolos,Wilfredo Urbina Pdf

This book is the second of a two volume series. Covering a range of subjects from operator theory and classical harmonic analysis to Banach space theory, this book features fully-refereed, high-quality papers exploring new results and trends in weighted norm inequalities, Schur-Agler class functions, complex analysis, dynamical systems, and dyadic harmonic analysis. Graduate students and researchers in analysis will find inspiration in the articles collected in this volume, which emphasize the remarkable connections between harmonic analysis and operator theory. A survey of the two weight problem for the Hilbert transform and an expository article on the Clark model to the case of non-singular measures and applications to the study of rank-one perturbations are included. The material for this volume is based on the 13th New Mexico Analysis Seminar held at the University of New Mexico, April 3-4, 2014 and on several special sections of the Western Spring Sectional Meeting at the University of New Mexico, April 4-6,2014. During the event, participants honored the memory of Cora Sadosky—a great mathematician who recently passed away and who made significant contributions to the field of harmonic analysis. Cora was an exceptional scientist and human being. She was a world expert in harmonic analysis and operator theory, publishing over fifty-five research papers and authoring a major textbook in the field. Participants of the conference include new and senior researchers, recent doctorates as well as leading experts in the area.

Pediatric Orthopedic Deformities, Volume 2 by Frederic Shapiro Pdf

Volume 2 of this comprehensive and state-of-the-art text on pediatric orthopedic deformities focuses on conditions of the lower extremity. Developmental disorders of the hip – developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCP), coxa vara including slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE), and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) – the knee, the ankle and foot, as well as rotational and angular deformities of the lower limb are discussed in detail. Presentation for each deformity includes: definition, detailed review of the pathoanatomy, experimental biological investigations (where applicable), natural history, review of the evolution of diagnostic and treatment techniques, results achieved with the various approaches, and current management approaches with detailed descriptions of surgical technique. Extensive illustrations, figures and photos provide clear visual depictions of the range of deformity for the various disorders, underlying histopathology, imaging findings and treatment approaches. Multiple tables provide concentrated information, especially for the treatment options based on the severity of the particular disorder and deformity. Based on a solid understanding of the underlying pathobiology of deformities of the developing musculoskeletal system, this second volume of Pediatric Orthopedic Deformities provides a penetrating, in-depth presentation on the lower extremity for pediatric orthopedic surgeons, adult orthopedic surgeons seeking a deeper understanding of how deformities developed, and all clinicians caring for pediatric patients with developmental deformities.

Geometric Aspects of Functional Analysis by Joram Lindenstrauss,Vitali Milman Pdf

This is the sixth published volume of the Israel Seminar on Geometric Aspects of Functional Analysis. The previous volumes are 1983-84 published privately by Tel Aviv University 1985-86 Springer Lecture Notes, Vol. 1267 1986-87 Springer Lecture Notes, Vol. 1317 1987-88 Springer Lecture Notes, Vol. 1376 1989-90 Springer Lecture Notes, Vol. 1469 As in the previous vC!lumes the central subject of -this volume is Banach space theory in its various aspects. In view of the spectacular development in infinite-dimensional Banach space theory in recent years (like the solution of the hyperplane problem, the unconditional basic sequence problem and the distortion problem in Hilbert space) it is quite natural that the present volume contains substantially more contributions in this direction than the previous volumes. This volume also contains many important contributions in the "traditional directions" of this seminar such as probabilistic methods in functional analysis, non-linear theory, harmonic analysis and especially the local theory of Banach spaces and its connection to classical convexity theory in IRn. The papers in this volume are original research papers and include an invited survey by Alexander Olevskii of Kolmogorov's work on Fourier analysis (which was presented at a special meeting on the occasion of the 90th birthday of A. N. Kol mogorov). We are very grateful to Mrs. M. Hercberg for her generous help in many directions, which made the publication of this volume possible. Operator Theory and Boundary Eigenvalue Problems by I. Gohberg,H. Langer Pdf

The Workshop on Operator Theory and Boundary Eigenvalue Problems was held at the Technical University, Vienna, Austria, July 27 to 30, 1993. It was the seventh workshop in the series of IWOTA (International Workshops on Operator Theory and Applications). The main topics at the workshop were interpolation problems and analytic matrix functions, operator theory in spaces with indefinite scalar products, boundary value problems for differential and functional-differential equations and systems theory and control. The workshop covered different aspects, starting with abstract operator theory up to contrete applications. The papers in these proceedings provide an accurate cross section of the lectures presented at the workshop. This book will be of interest to a wide group of pure and applied mathematicians.

Partially Specified Matrices and Operators: Classification, Completion, Applications by Israel Gohberg,Marinus Kaashoek,Frederik Van Schagen Pdf

This book is devoted to a new direction in linear algebra and operator theory that deals with the invariants of partially specified matrices and operators, and with the spectral analysis of their completions. The theory developed centers around two major problems concerning matrices of which part of the entries are given and the others are unspecified. The first is a classification problem and aims at a simplification of the given part with the help of admissible similarities. The results here may be seen as a far reaching generalization of the Jordan canonical form. The second problem is called the eigenvalue completion problem and asks to describe all possible eigenvalues and their multiplicities of the matrices which one obtains by filling in the unspecified entries. Both problems are also considered in an infinite dimensional operator framework. A large part of the book deals with applications to matrix theory and analysis, namely to stabilization problems in mathematical system theory, to problems of Wiener-Hopf factorization and interpolation for matrix polynomials and rational matrix functions, to the Kronecker structure theory of linear pencils, and to non everywhere defined operators. The eigenvalue completion problem has a natural associated inverse, which appears as a restriction problem. The analysis of these two problems is often simpler when a solution of the corresponding classification problem is available.

One-dimensional Functional Equations by Genrich Belitskii,Vadim Tkachenko Pdf

The monograph is devoted to the study of functional equations with the transformed argument on the real line and on the unit circle. Such equations systematically arise in dynamical systems, differential equations, probabilities, singularities of smooth mappings, and other areas. The purpose of the book is to present modern methods and new results in the subject, with an emphasis on a connection between local and global solvability. The general concepts developed in the book are applicable to multidimensional functional equations. Some of the methods are presented for the first time in the monograph literature. The book is addressed to graduates and researchers interested in dynamical systems, differential equations, operator theory, or the theory of functions and their applications.

Nonlinear Poisson Brackets by Mihail Vladimirovi_ Karasev,Viktor Pavlovi_ Maslov,American Mathematical Society Pdf

This book deals with two old mathematical problems. The first is the problem of constructing an analog of a Lie group for general nonlinear Poisson brackets. The second is the quantization problem for such brackets in the semiclassical approximation (which is the problem of exact quantization for the simplest classes of brackets). These problems are progressively coming to the fore in the modern theory of differential equations and quantum theory, since the approach based on constructions of algebras and Lie groups seems, in a certain sense, to be exhausted. The authors' main goal is to describe in detail the new objects that appear in the solution of these problems. Many ideas of algebra, modern differential geometry, algebraic topology, and operator theory are synthesized here. The authors prove all statements in detail, thus making the book accessible to graduate students.

Convolution Operators and Factorization of Almost Periodic Matrix Functions by Albrecht Böttcher,Yuri I. Karlovich,Ilya M. Spitkovsky Pdf

Many problems of the engineering sciences, physics, and mathematics lead to con volution equations and their various modifications. Convolution equations on a half-line can be studied by having recourse to the methods and results of the theory of Toeplitz and Wiener-Hopf operators. Convolutions by integrable kernels have continuous symbols and the Cauchy singular integral operator is the most prominent example of a convolution operator with a piecewise continuous symbol. The Fredholm theory of Toeplitz and Wiener-Hopf operators with continuous and piecewise continuous (matrix) symbols is well presented in a series of classical and recent monographs. Symbols beyond piecewise continuous symbols have discontinuities of oscillating type. Such symbols emerge very naturally. For example, difference operators are nothing but convolution operators with almost periodic symbols: the operator defined by (A

Orthogonal Systems and Convolution Operators by Robert Ellis,Israel Gohberg Pdf

The main concern of this book is the distribution of zeros of polynomials that are orthogonal on the unit circle with respect to an indefinite weighted scalar or inner product. The first theorem of this type, proved by M. G. Krein, was a far-reaching generalization of G. Szegö's result for the positive definite case. A continuous analogue of that theorem was proved by Krein and H. Langer. These results, as well as many generalizations and extensions, are thoroughly treated in this book. A unifying theme is the general problem of orthogonalization with invertible squares in modules over C*-algebras. Particular modules that are considered in detail include modules of matrices, matrix polynomials, matrix-valued functions, linear operators, and others. One of the central features of this book is the interplay between orthogonal polynomials and their generalizations on the one hand, and operator theory, especially the theory of Toeplitz marices and operators, and Fredholm and Wiener-Hopf operators, on the other hand. The book is of interest to both engineers and specialists in analysis.
