Among the myriad of constants that appear in mathematics, p, e, and i are the most familiar. Following closely behind is g, or gamma, a constant that arises in many mathematical areas yet maintains a profound sense of mystery. In a tantalizing blend of history and mathematics, Julian Havil takes the reader on a journey through logarithms and the harmonic series, the two defining elements of gamma, toward the first account of gamma's place in mathematics. Introduced by the Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler (1707-1783), who figures prominently in this.
Cathedral (Cradle of Darkness Book Two) by Addison Cain Pdf
“Addison Cain's writing blows me away each time!” NYT Bestselling author Anna Zaires My love for her is forbidden. When the princess was placed in my care, the devil ordered that I never show his daughter mercy, affection, or a gentle hand. To keep her safe from the denizens of our dark king’s Cathedral, Jade’s life as my ward has been pitiless. She despises me. Yet I am utterly, irrevocably in love. Infamous for my coldness, unquestioned in my fealty, the devil forgets that there are older, more terrible monsters in the dark—and I have sold my soul to the most ancient of evil so that Jade might one day be mine. Gamma-Ray Bursts by Gilbert Vedrenne,Jean-Luc Atteia Pdf
Since their discovery was first announced in 1973, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been among the most fascination objects in the universe. While the initial mystery has gone, the fascination continues, sustained by the close connection linking GRBs with some of the most fundamental topics in modern astrophysics and cosmology. Both authors have been active in GRB observations for over two decades and have produced an outstanding account on both the history and the perspectives of GRB research.
This brief monograph on the gamma function was designed by the author to fill what he perceived as a gap in the literature of mathematics, which often treated the gamma function in a manner he described as both sketchy and overly complicated. Author Emil Artin, one of the twentieth century's leading mathematicians, wrote in his Preface to this book, "I feel that this monograph will help to show that the gamma function can be thought of as one of the elementary functions, and that all of its basic properties can be established using elementary methods of the calculus." Generations of teachers and students have benefitted from Artin's masterly arguments and precise results. Suitable for advanced undergraduates and graduate students of mathematics, his treatment examines functions, the Euler integrals and the Gauss formula, large values of x and the multiplication formula, the connection with sin x, applications to definite integrals, and other subjects.

The Multi-Messenger Approach to High-Energy Gamma-Ray Sources by Josep M. Paredes,Olaf Reimer,Diego F. Torres Pdf
This book provides a theoretical and observational overview of the state of the art of gamma-ray astrophysics, and their impact and connection with the physics of cosmic rays and neutrinos. With the aim of shedding new and fresh light on the problem of the nature of the gamma-ray sources, particularly those yet unidentified, this book summarizes contributions to a workshop that continues today.
Estimation of Gamma Phase Composition in Nickel-base Superalloys (based on Geometric Analysis of a Four-component Phase Diagram) by Robert L. Dreshfield Pdf
The gamma-gamma prime region of the nickel-aluminum-chromium-titanium system at 750' C has been analyzed through the use of phase rule principles and analytic geometry to allow estimation of gamma phase composition when the composition of a two-phase quaternary alloy is known. By application of currently used phase computation methods with the above calculation, the gamma phase composition of several nickel-base super-alloys was estimated and found (except for tungsten) to be in good agreement with compositions for these alloys as reported in the literature.
Gamma-Ray Spectrometry of Rocks by John A. S. Adams,Paolo Gasparini Pdf
Gamma-Ray Spectrometry of Rocks: Methods in Geochemistry and Geophysics provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of the gamma-ray spectrometry of rocks. This book discusses the increasing interest in using gamma spectrometry in the search for uranium ore. Organized into seven chapters, this book begins with an overview of the approximate frequency and wave length of electromagnetic radiations. This text then examines the quantitative detection of X and gamma photons, which is based upon their interactions with matter. Other chapters consider the inorganic scintillation crystals as the most favorable detectors due to its requirement of a high intrinsic efficiency. This book discusses as well the shape of the spectrum of a monoenergetic gamma-ray beam, which is dependent on the photon energy. The final chapter deals with the determination of the abundances of natural radioisotopes and their stable end products in a rock or mineral. This book is a valuable resource for radiological health physicists, chemists, geochemists, and exploration geologists.
Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy and Related Topics by J Kvasil,P Cejnar,M Krticka Pdf
This volume is a collection of invited talks, oral contributions and poster contributions devoted to advances in gamma-ray spectroscopy of various capture reactions. In agreement with the trend of previous meetings in the series, the symposium paid special attention to theoretical and experimental studies of nuclear structure at low energies and to nuclear astrophysics. Among the other topics covered are: statistical properties of nuclei and other quantum many-body systems, fundamental physics, nuclear data, practical application of capture reactions, and new techniques and facilities for capture gamma-ray spectroscopy.
