Reading Luke by Zondervan, Pdf

A rich and comprehensive volume—essential reading for all those interested in how to read Luke as relevant for today In this sixth volume, the Scripture and Hermeneutics Seminar brings its past six years of work on biblical hermeneutics to bear on the gospel according to Luke. In his introduction, Anthony Thiselton, world authority on biblical hermeneutics, sets the context for a wideranging exploration of how to read Luke for God’s address today. Traditional and more contemporary approaches are brought into dialogue with each other as several top Lukan scholars reflect on how best to read Luke as Scripture. Topics covered include the purpose of Luke- Acts, biblical theology and Luke, narrative and Luke, reception history and Luke, the parables in Luke, a missional reading of Luke, and theological interpretation of Luke. Since prayer is a major theme in Luke, this volume explores not only the role of prayer in Luke, but also the relationship between prayer and exegesis.

The Revelation of the Messiah by Caleb Friedeman Pdf

In the first two chapters of Luke, characters acknowledge Jesus as Messiah, Son of God, and Lord. Lukan characters also speak of John going before the Lord God, suggesting that Jesus might be the Lord in view, and connect Jesus with Old Testament YHWH passages. These features have made Luke 1-2 a key locus for discussions of Lukan Christology, generating speculation as to whether Luke presents Jesus as divine. However, they also create an apparent incongruity with the body of the Gospel. In Luke 3 and elsewhere, human characters are initially ignorant that Jesus is Messiah, Son of God, and Lord. Moreover, Jesus' divinity – if Luke affirms it – does not seem to be recognized until after the resurrection. In this study, Caleb Friedeman advances a new model for understanding the Christological relationship between Luke 1-2 and the rest of Luke-Acts, in which Luke presents these opening chapters as a Christological mystery.

Genesis to Revelation: A Taste of the Entire Bible by Stephen J. Bedard Pdf

Why another book on the Bible? Many people, inside and outside the church, agree that the Bible is important and valuable. But how do you go about reading it? Many start at the beginning. Genesis is interesting and the first part of Exodus is good. But then the reader gets into lists of laws and architectural descriptions and genealogies. Many well-meaning Bible readers have died in the wastelands of Leviticus and Numbers. While sympathetic to these struggles, I know that the Bible is valuable, even in the books that seem the most difficult. This book takes the reader through the entire Bible. Instead of pressuring the reader to read every verse, select passages are assigned to give the reader a taste of the Bible and hopefully an interest in learning about the rest of the Bible.
