The series of articles entitled "Virginia Gleanings in England" originally appeared in "The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography." The complete "Virginia Gleanings" series, assembled here in book form, comprises some eighty-five articles, the bulk of them contributed by Lothrop Withington from his post in London. Thomas Harrison (1619-1682), an intimate of the Cromwell family, served as chaplain of the Virginia colony during Gov. Berkeley's first term. Benjamin Harrison, his brother, then immigrated to become the founder of the Harrison family of the James River in Virginia.
