God’s Liar by Thom Satterlee Pdf

The year is 1665. England is in the midst of the Restoration, and John Milton, a blind, politically and religiously marginalized writer associated with Oliver Cromwell's failed attempt to form a republic, has not yet published Paradise Lost. When one of the worst plagues in history descends upon London, he and his much younger wife are forced to flee to the countryside. There Milton is befriended by the local curate, Rev. Theodore Wesson, who knows nothing about Milton's controversial past or the dangers of associating with him. Soon their fates become intertwined when the curate's hopes for advancement are threatened by his relationship to the notorious traitor and "king-killer," John Milton. The situation tests Wesson's loyalty--to the monarchy, to friendship, to a church career--while complicating his already blurry sense of God's involvement in human affairs. For Milton, the cost is potentially even greater: the target of assassination attempts since the restoration of the monarchy five years earlier, he has real reason to fear for his life. A riveting and briskly paced novel that transports the reader to a very particular place and time even as its themes resonate with our own time, Thom Satterlee's God's Liar will take its place next to works as varied as Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall and Colm Toibin's The Master.

Trusting God in the Darkness by Christopher Ash Pdf

It's easy for us to trust God when life is going well. But when suffering comes, trusting God's goodness, his attentiveness to what's going on in the world, and his justice becomes far more difficult. In times of intense suffering, many of us ask, Why does God allow these things to happen? In the Bible, Job is known for facing intense personal suffering. Yet, upon closer examination, we find the book of Job is about more than just Job's calamities; it's a story about God and his relationship to Christ and his people in their suffering. In this helpful guide, Christopher Ash helps us explore the question, Where is God in the midst of suffering? As we read, meditate, and pray through the book of Job, we will find assurance that God will be with us in Christ through every season and trial.

God Is Real and the Devil Is a Liar by Anna Ellison-Griffin Pdf

As I was writing this book, I began to see some sad moments in my story. One being when I talked to the bishop that Tuesday about what I was going through. He told me to come to church on Sunday. We are talking five days later. My heart breaks knowing that he was having a service later that night and again on Friday. I told him with tears pouring down my face that something evil had entered into my body and that I needed an exorcism to get it out. For all bishops, pastors, and ministers reading this book, when someone calls you for "help," please don't put them off because you have a program to follow. God sent them to you for a reason. I was going through spiritual warfare, and I knew I needed to be at a church, not a mental hospital. My situation could have turned out very badly. The devil could have caused me to hurt myself or someone else. Remember, I thought I was obeying God. I would have done whatever he told me to do. I believe now that God was teaching me to trust and depend only on him, because he is the author and finisher of our faith. If there is one thing you get out of reading my testimony, let it be that no matter what you are going through, God will be there to see you through. Have you surrendered your life to him? If not, read Romans 10:9: If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. Then repent of your sins and ask him to come into your life and make him your Lord and savior.

Lies We Believe About God by Wm. Paul Young Pdf

From the author of the bestselling novel The Shack and the New York Times bestsellers Cross Roads and Eve comes a compelling, conversational exploration of twenty-eight assumptions about God—assumptions that just might be keeping us from experiencing His unconditional, all-encompassing love. In his wildly popular novels, Wm. Paul Young portrayed the Triune God in ways that challenged our thinking—sometimes upending long-held beliefs, but always centered in the eternal, all-encompassing nature of God’s love. Now, in Wm. Paul Young’s first nonfiction book, he invites us to revisit our assumptions about God—this time using the Bible, theological discussion, and personal anecdotes. Paul encourages us to think through beliefs we’ve presumed to be true and consider whether some might actually be false. Expounding on the compassion fans felt from the “Papa” portrayed in The Shack—now a major film starring Sam Worthington and Octavia Spencer—Paul encourages you to think anew about important issues including sin, religion, hell, politics, identity, creation, human rights, and helping us discover God’s deep and abiding love.

Why I Love the Apostle Paul by John Piper Pdf

"Besides Jesus, no one has kept me from despair, or taken me deeper into the mysteries of the gospel, than the apostle Paul." —John Piper No one has had a greater impact on the world for eternal good than the apostle Paul—except Jesus himself. For John Piper, this impact is very personal. He does not just admire and trust Paul. He loves him. Piper gives us thirty glimpses into why his heart and mind respond this way. Can a Christian-killer really endure 195 lashes from a heart of love? Can a mystic who thinks he was caught up into heaven be a model of lucid rationality? Can an ethnocentric Jew write the most beautiful call to reconciliation? Can a person who lives with the unceasing anguish of empathy be always rejoicing? Can a man's description of the horrors of human sin be exceeded by his delight in human splendor? Can a man with a backbone of steel be as tender as a nursing mother? If we know this man—if we see what Piper sees—we too will love him. Paul's testimony is a matter of life and death. Piper invites you into his relationship with Paul in the hope that you will know life, forever.

Let God Be True and Every Man a Liar by Lonnell Stewart Pdf

Let God Be True and Every Man a Liar Whether it is in science, religion, or just common interaction between people, there is a pattern that seems to be pervasive among human beings. Humans have the ability to manufacture just about any type of situation, embellish it, and spin an entire imaginative universe from it. However, in reality, there only exists a real universe that God has created, and no matter how man may try to manufacture a different one, it will never replace or make void God's. Oftentimes people accept the many weird and fanciful detailed and well-thought-out reasonings presented such as aliens from outer space being the creators of our world or living things automatically springing from nonliving things given a certain amount of time. But realistically and logically carried to its final conclusion, none really adds up. It is only when an eternal and intelligent living God is made to be the source and foundation for the world in which we live do the parts begin to equal the whole. In this book, on focusing on the inclusion of God in the source and foundation of the parts, it is much easier to make the parts add up to equal the whole.

God Is Enough by Melvin E. Dieter,Hallie A Dieter Pdf

Generation after generation of readers have kept Hannah Whitall Smith's The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life in continuous print since its first publication in 1875. Many of them, however, never became well acquainted with similar gems of spiritual devotion that are found not only in her other published writings but also in the thousands of pages of unpublished letters and journals in which she recorded her spiritual journey. In 1982, through the kindness of her great-granddaughter, Barbara Strachey Halpern, the editors were given free access to the family's treasure lode of books, memorabilia, and manuscripts at her home in Oxford, England. The result was God Is Enough. The warm response generated by its first printing in 1986 and supported by the thousands who welcomed each additional printing thereafter indicates that the practical spiritual insights of this most widely read spiritual counselor of the nineteenth century still speak to us today.

More Than a Carpenter by Josh D. McDowell,Sean McDowell Pdf

He thought Christianity was a sham. Then it changed his life. Skeptic Josh McDowell thought Christians were out of their minds. He ridiculed and insulted them, then decided to combat them with his own thorough research to disprove the claims of Jesus Christ. To his surprise, he discovered that the evidence suggested exactly the opposite—that Jesus, instead of being simply a first-century Hebrew carpenter, truly was the God he claimed to be. Josh went on to write the inspirational work on Christian apologetics, More Than a Carpenter, which has sold over 15 million copies. In this revised and updated edition, with over 15 million copies in print since its original publication, More Than a Carpenter has changed countless lives. Now, in this revised and updated edition, Josh is joined by his son, Sean, as they tackle the questions that today’s generation continues to ask: “Can I be spiritual without believing in God?” “How can I make sure that my life counts for something?” “Is it really possible to know anything for sure about God or Jesus?” This edition is an accessible read for seekers and a great evangelism tool.

Let God Be True and Every Man a Liar by Victor Perez Pdf

We as the church are being looked at by the lost world as a bunch of hypocrites. We need to seriously consider this viewpoint in how we are evangelizing the lost. Currently there are 3,500 people leaving the church from all denominations daily. This is definitely not the Lord’s plan for the Body of Christ. Another statistic showed that from the years 2000 to 2008, 20 million people left the North American church from all denominations. Matthew 11: 28 (NAS) reads, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” When the Lord Jesus Christ uses the term all, He is referring to every single person on Earth. When the church uses the term all, they are referring to only those who belong to their denomination. This should not be. I truly believe that the Lord Jesus wants to redefine who He wants to be in each and every one of our lives, if we let Him. The question is, do we want Him to, or are we comfortable with where we are operating as different denominational churches? What the world is experiencing currently is testimony that business as usual has ended for the entire church world.

Understanding the Church: God?s Alternative Society by Dr. Frankie O. Phillips Sr. Pdf

This book was not written; it was built. I was not the architect, but a laborer under the direction of the Holy Spirit whose purpose is to honor the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not intended for casual reading, but to inspire further study of the Word. It is my hope and prayer that readers will be inspired to build upon the concept of the church as "God's alternative society." It is my hope that many sermons will grow out of what the Holy Spirit has given me to put in this book. It is my hope that it will lead to study of the Word, which reveals Jesus Christ who said, "I will build my church."

Lying by Paul J. Griffiths Pdf

Most people would agree that compulsive lying is a "sickness." In his provocative Lying, Paul Griffiths suggests that consistent truth telling might evoke a similar response. After all, isn't unremitting honesty often associated with stupidity, insanity, and fanatical sainthood? Drawing from Augustine's writings, and contrasting them with the work of other Christian and non-Christian thinkers, Griffiths deals with the two great questions concerning lying: What is it to lie? When, if ever, should or may a lie be told? Examining Augustine's answers to these questions, Griffiths grapples with the difficulty of those answers while rendering them more accessible. With rhetorical savvy Augustine himself would applaud, Griffiths aims to "seduce" rather than argue his readers into agreement with Augustine. Augustine's historically significant, characteristically Christian, and undeniably radical thoughts on lying ignite Griffiths's searching discussion of this challenging and crucial topic. Marvelously erudite and energetic, Lying will draw Augustine enthusiasts, students of ethics, and anyone who is committed to living a more honest life.
