Golf Freek by Steve Eubanks Pdf

Steve Eubanks lives on a golf course, spends most of his time with a golf club in his hand, and simply cannot pass a course without playing it. In Golf Freek, he chronicles his travels around the globe for the sole purpose of playing as much free golf—the operative word being free—in as many interesting places and with as many interesting people as possible. As Steve himself says, “This book is not some mystic search to find my soul through a ball-and-stick metaphor. It’s about me, the golf freek, sponging free golf. It’s a mixture of On the Road (without the booze, hookers, guns, and poverty) and Rick Reilly’s Who’s Your Caddy? (with John Daly keeping his private parts to himself).” Along the way he tells some of the world’s greatest golf stories—funny, touching, bizarre, and sometimes personal—from his rounds with Arnold Palmer to his hole in one in the Chinese town where his daughter was born. These tales, taken together, add up to one of the most revealing books about

Zen Golf by Joseph Parent Pdf

A highly original and groundbreaking book from a noted PGA coach and Buddhist instructor • “The lessons in Zen Golf make the mental game seem so simple. Dr. Parent has given me very effective methods for working with thoughts and emotions, and for taking the negatives out of the picture.” —Vijay Singh, Masters and PGA Champion By combining classic insights and stories from Zen tradition, Zen Golf helps eliminate the mental distractions that routinely cause poor shots and loss of concentration, allowing golfers to feel in “the zone” that professionals have learned to master. The best players know that golf is a game of confidence, and most important, concentration–the ability to focus and block out distraction. The goal of achieving clear thought is also at the heart of Buddhist teachings. PGA coach and Buddhist instructor Dr. Joseph Parent draws on this natural connection and teaches golfers how to clear their minds, achieve ultimate focus, and play in the moment for each shot. Zen Golf presents a simple system for building “mental game mastery.” Dr Parent’s unique PAR Approach (focusing on Preparation, Action, and Response to Results) guides golfers with specific techniques for each aspect of their games. In chapters such as “How to Get From the Practice Tee to the First Tee”, “You Produce What You Fear”, and “How to Enjoy a Bad Round of Golf”, the author shares a personal teaching regimen that has helped improve the games of professionals and amateurs alike. Clear, concise, and enlightening, Zen Golf shows golfers how to prepare for, execute, and equally important, respond the results of any golf shot. A different approach to golf instruction, this book shapes ancient philosophies into new teachings.

To Win and Die in Dixie by Steve Eubanks Pdf

A fascinating biography of a forgotten golf legend, a riveting whodunit of a covered-up killing, a scalding exposé of a closed society—in To Win and Die in Dixie, award-winning writer Steve Eubanks weaves all these elements into a masterly book that resurrects a superb sportsman and reconstructs a startling crime. J. Douglas Edgar was the British-born golfer who broke every record, invented the modern swing, and coached such winners as Bobby Jones, the greatest amateur in history, and Alexa Stirling, the finest female player of her day. But on August 8, 1921, he was a man dead in the middle of the road, the victim, conventional wisdom said, of a hit-and-run. Comer Howell thought otherwise. He was an Atlanta Constitution reporter and heir to the paper’s fortune, a man frustrated by his reputation as the pampered boss’s son. To Howell, the physical evidence didn’t add up to a car accident. As he chronicled Edgar’s life, Howell discovered a working-class striver who had risen in the world through a passion to succeed, a quality the newspaperman admired. And as he investigated Edgar’s death, Howell also found a man whose recklessness may have doomed him to a violent demise. Cutting cinematically between Howell’s present and Edgar’s championship past, To Win and Die in Dixie brilliantly portrays one man’s quest for excellence and another’s search for redemption and the truth. Their stories meet in a Southern society of plush country-club golf courses, vast wealth, and decadent secrets. Filled with the vivid golf writing for which its author is renowned, To Win and Die in Dixie is a real-life story both shocking and inspiring, a book that propels Steve Eubanks to a new level of literary achievement.

Yoga meets Golf: More Power & More Flow by Dorothee Haering Pdf

Golf Fitness with Yoga "No thank you!" That would have been the smiling denial of Dorothee Haering two years ago. "Me and yoga; sitting on the floor twisting my limbs into knots?" Unimaginable! But things tend to take their own way. Her physiotherapist sent her to yoga and she discovered all the benefits for her game. A yoga book written by a golfer is, of course, not a run-of-the-mill yoga book with mainly traditional asanas, the physical yoga poses. On the contrary, this special exercise program is tailored specifically to golfers' needs. With a balanced mix of traditional techniques and modern training principles as well as the easy-to-follow instructions described step-by-step, this book is eminently suitable for non-yogis. The subjects "Golfer's Elbow: No thanks" might as interest many afflicted golfers as the training tips to more mobility of the hip. Freshly edited and with numerous photographs specially taken for these exercises, this book reflects Dorothee Haering's great passion for golf. A book by a golfer for those golfers who want to work on their physical and mental attitudes in an easy-going fashion. * Set-up & Balance * Arms & Hands * Footwork & Strain * Rotation & Back * Playing in the Flow and mental Strength * Background Knowledge Golf & Health * Warm Up for the Driving Range, Golfers I & II Roll out your mat! Your age is of no consequence. If you can play golf then you can practice yoga, irrespective of your individual constitution and physical condition. All you need is motivation and perseverance in order to discover yoga as a new source of energy for your golf game. Move your game! www.move-your-game.com

Alice Cooper, Golf Monster by Alice Cooper Pdf

Wretched excess, rock stardom, and golf—from the man who invented shock rock In this tell-all memoir, Alice Cooper speaks candidly about his life and career, including all the years of rock ’n’ roll history he’s been a part of, the addictions he faced, and the surprising ways he found redemption. From a childhood spent as a minister’s son worshiping baseball and rock ’n’ roll; to days on the road with his band, working to make a name for themselves; to stardom and the insanity that came with it, including a quart-of-whiskey-a-day habit; to drying out at a sanitarium back in the late ’70s, Alice Cooper paints a rich and rockin’ portrait of his life and his battle against addiction—fought by getting up daily at 7 a.m. to play 36 holes of golf. Alice tells hilarious, touching, and sometimes astounding stories about Led Zeppelin and the Doors, George Burns and Groucho Marx, John Daly and Tiger Woods . . . everyone is here from Dalí to Elvis to Arnold Palmer. Alice Cooper, Golf Monster is the incredible story of someone who rose through the rock ’n’ roll ranks releasing platinum albums and selling out arenas with his legendary act—all while becoming one of the best celebrity golfers around.

Augusta and Aiken in Golf's Golden Age by Stan Byrdy Pdf

The game of golf got its start in the Southeastern United States in 1892 on four holes with sand greens at Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, South Carolina. Within five years, Palmetto had expanded to eighteen holes and the first nine-hole course in neighboring Augusta, Georgia was designed at the Hotel Bon Air. For half a century, the Augusta-Aiken area flourished as the winter destination of choice for the rich, famous, and powerful in America. Presidents Taft, Harding, and Eisenhower vacationed here. Baseball great Ty Cobb bought a home in Augusta's quaint Summerville neighborhood. It was here that Bobby Jones began the improbable journey towards a Grand Slam, then built his dream golf course. By the turn of the century, winter tourism and grand resort hotels in the Augusta-Aiken area were well established. A favorable winter climate and easy rail access drew vacationers to Highland Park Hotel (1866), Willcox Hotel (1898), and Park in the Pines (1900) in Aiken; Hotel Bon Air (1890) and Partridge Inn (1913) in Augusta; and Hampton Terrace Hotel and Golf Club (1903) in North Augusta. Resorts in Florida and the growth of the air travel industry later coupled to mark the area's decline in winter tourism, but not before Augusta-Aiken's place in golf history was secure. In this unique volume, vintage images and accompanying text recall the unfo rgettable legends, the meticulously maintained courses, and all of the grandeur associated with the game.
