The Impact Zone by Bobby Clampett,Andy Brumer Pdf

Every golfer can improve their game using the instructions in The Impact Zone by Bobby Clampett "one of the most knowledgeable golfing minds in the game." —Tom Lehman, British Open Champion Impact has long been called golf's "moment of truth," and great golfers have spent countless hours working on their swings trying to upgrade their impact dynamics as the golf club approaches, contacts, then swings through the ball. For the first time, with The Impact Zone, golfers will have a book that focuses their attention on the very same region of the swing on which professional golfers have always concentrated. The Impact Zone is a unique instructional guide in that everything in it either focuses on or applies to improving a golfer's understanding and execution of impact. Here, acclaimed professional golfer Bobby Clampett concludes that the overwhelming bias and convention of today's contemporary teaching environment is to value swing styles over swing dynamics, and in so doing, the overwhelming majority of golf teachers miss the boat in terms of teaching the game effectively. Ultimately this emphasis on swing style comes at the expense of helping golfers to develop sound swing dynamics, which are the real keys to consistent ball striking and better golf. With the help of CBS's Swing Vision high-speed camera—using images from many of the game's greatest contemporary players (including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia, and more)—The Impact Zone takes an unprecedented look at the most important six inches in golf, those that immediately precede, contain, and follow impact. To further demonstrate these principles, Clampett presents photos and drills that convey the five essential dynamics golfers need to produce and reproduce solid impact. Throughout these instructional pages, Bobby Clampett—teamed with veteran golf writer Andy Brumer—relays his own personal story of straying from swing dynamics and how he found his way back. He recalls memorable stories from the Tour, blending innovative instruction with his colorful, engaging anecdotes. Clampett and Brumer create an essential instructional guide with clear, concise advice—on creating great swing dynamics through the impact zone—the universally acknowledged key to more consistent and better golf.

Q School Confidential by David Gould Pdf

In 1999, the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament---known to many as Q School---found itself sitting on 35 years of unique history. Q School Confidential chronicles this tournament's deep, dense story of heartbreak, black humor, back-room politics and magnificent golf under dire circumstances. Using the 1998 PGA TOUR Qualifying School finals as his backdrop, golf writer David Gould recounts for the first time ever the history of the pro tour's annual qualifier, with revealing anecdotes about raw rookies, aging veterans and every dreamer in between. The vintage stories in the Q School's near and distant past tell of emotional and physical breakdown---and courage, as well---under pressure: Jim Carter's self-confessed "choke stories" of 1990 and 1992; Mark McCumber's recurring lost-scorecard nightmare; Peter Jacobsen's ordeal with a cheater on the Mexican border; Jim McLean's bizarre arrest on the qualifier's eve; and Mac O'Grady's violent celebration of his long-awaited Q School success. The players captured in these pages turn white with panic, vomit their breakfast, sleep in their cars, practice on interstate ranges, lose golf shoes, forget contact lenses and make fateful decisions based on faulty information. Sifting back through several eras, Gould explains the innocent aims of the first Q Schools and uncovers the tournament's pivotal role in the momentous split-up of the PGA and the PGA TOUR. He examines the difficult question of how professional golf should go about bringing in new players and letting former players regain their privileges. In the voices of forgotten or never-known tour pros from the 1970s, he narrates the frustrating "rabbit era" that Q School helped create, and revisits the infamous "breakaway Q School" of 1968. In notes that accompany this book's exclusive year-by-year scoring records, the author picks out hidden turning points, bits of trivia and strange coincidences in the lives of tour players past and present. These profiles and snapshots of the earliest Q School survivors and the most recent graduates, as well, are woven together in a warm, engaging and insightful narrative. Q School Confidential, sometimes bleak, sometimes triumphant, provides the first and only inside look at a cruel and unusual tournament that many consider golf's toughest test of all.

It Could Never Happen but It Did by Edward Watkins Pdf

It Could Never Happen but It Did By: Edward Watkins “Dear Edward, dear friend, you are undoubtedly a storyteller of unequaled memory! I was fascinated by your remembrance of 90+ years ago. You wrote over 100+ pages of your life you obviously enjoyed. I thank you for sharing your book. It’s awesome.” -Charlene Dawson, writer and journalist “Edward, dear! What a fantastic tale you weave! Your memories and book style captivated my whole being. I had thought I would merely peruse the hundred and twenty pages and just say a little white lie that I had read the whole thing. But, no, I could not quit until I read it all. I believe your book should appeal to those who lived in that era and those who are interested in how life ‘was’ in the olden/golden days.” -Charline Gajdos, lifelong secretary and world traveler “Watkins is the best salesman since St. Paul. [He] shows that faith can move mountains.” -John Dudley, Scout Master of California “Dear Edward, this was an amazing autobiography. Your memory for the details is extraordinary and the recounting of your childhood, flying career, sales career, and golfing experiences is amazing. Thank you for the opportunity to read it.” -Sally and Basil Binckley This is the story about Edward Watkins’s life from his birth to his forty-third birthday. It covers his childhood and his working eight hours a night as an apprentice machinist while in high school. It’s about how he became a Naval Aviator in 1943. He was discharged February 2, 1946, and proceeded to get a college education. He started selling books part-time and found out that he could make more money as an encyclopedia salesman than he could as an engineer. Watkins returned to service for the Korean War October 31, 1952, and was discharged on March 3, 1954. Then Watkins went back to bookselling where he became the regional VP for Collier’s of New England area. He eventually quit that position because his wife could not stand Eastern ragweed and returned to California. He became interested in cosmetics and acquired a dealership in Holiday Magic in 1968. Watkin’s wife divorced him and remarried her first husband on September 7, 1968. Watkin’s called her three months later and she was unhappy. He told her to return home. She canceled her marriage and she and Watkins were remarried February 27, 1969. It could never happen, but it did.
