You Gotta Have Heart by Frederic J. Frommer Pdf

“Stay in the Fight … Finish the Fight … Fight Finished.” These are the slogans the 2019 Washington Nationals used to rally from a 19-31 start to become baseball champions, earning DC’s first World Series title in ninety-five years. This reflective book captures that historic season, and a dramatic postseason that saw the team rally to win five come-from-behind elimination games – led by the arms of Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, and Patrick Corbin, and the bats of Juan Soto, Trea Turner and Anthony Rendon. It also covers the colorful history of DC baseball, including the pioneering Washington Nationals of 1859, the 1924 World Series champion Washington Senators, when the entire nation rooted for DC, and the Homestead Grays, a perennial Negro League pennant winner from the late 1930s to the mid-1940s.

Gotta Have 'em by R. Crumb Pdf

Call Out: Words of wisdom from R. Crumb hisself ("sic"): All my life I've loved women and hated 'em at the same time, often at the exact same moment! ~I realized I was a geek and I wasn't going to make it with the girls. I felt so painfully isolated that I vowed I would get revenge on the world by becoming a famous cartoonist. ~The only burning passion I'm sure I have, is the passion for sex. ~My personal obsession for big women interferes with some people's enjoyment of my work. I knew it was weird and disturbing and even offensive to a lot of people, particularly women. But I couldn't keep it out of the comics. I would always try to give it some sort of metaphorical sense because I derived such masturbatory pleasure out of drawing these women in bizarre situations with these little guys doing stuff to them.

Cotton Patch Parables of Liberation by Clarence Jordan Pdf

When Jesus delivered his parables, he lit a stick of dynamite, covered it with a story about everyday life, and then left it with his audience. By the time his hearers fully unwrapped the parable, Jesus and his disciples were long gone. Clarence Jordan essentially retells these powerful parables in the language of the South in order to place modern readers in that same first-century situation. Properly understood, these Cotton Patch stories can liberate us into the kingdom of God from the cultural prisons of religion, wealth, and prejudice. After Jordan's death in 1969, Bill Lane Doulos took up the task to combine these Cotton Patch Version parables with appropriate excerpts from Jordan's sermons and with his own commentary which does well to pull everything together. In the end, Doulos and Jordan call readers into true discipleship, challenging them to explore the demands of kingdom life on a whole new level.

Indigenous People and the Pilbara Mining Boom by John Taylor,B. Scambary Pdf

The largest escalation of mining activity in Australian history is currently underway in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Pilbara-based transnational resource companies recognise that major social and economic impacts on Indigenous communities in the region are to be expected and that sound relations with these communities and the pursuit of sustainable regional economies involving greater Indigenous participation provide the necessary foundations for a social licence to operate. This study examines the dynamics of demand for Indigenous labour in the region, and the capacity of local supply to respond. A special feature of this study is the inclusion of qualitative data reporting the views of local Indigenous people on the social and economic predicaments that face them.

Confessions of a Tax Collector by Richard Yancey Pdf

Twelve years ago, Richard Yancey answered a blind ad in the newspaper offering a salary higher than what he’d made over the three previous years combined. It turned out that the job was for the Internal Revenue Service -- the most hated and feared organization in the federal government. So Yancey became the man who got in his car, drove to your house, knocked on your door, and made you pay. Never mind that his car was littered with candy wrappers, his palms were sweaty, and he couldn’t remember where he stashed his own tax records. He was there on the authority of the United States government. With "a rich mix of humor, horror, and angst [and] better than most novels on the bestseller lists" (Boston Sunday Globe), Confessions of a Tax Collector contains an astonishing cast of too-strange-for-fiction characters. But the most intriguing character of all is Yancey himself who -- in detailing how the job changed him and how he managed to pull himself back from the brink of moral, ethical, and spiritual bankruptcy -- reveals what really lies beneath those dark suits and mirrored sunglasses. This P.S. edition features an extra 16 pages of insights into the book, including author interviews, recommended reading, and more.

Unfolding like a legal thriller, Rats in the Grain portrays the crime and punishment of ADM during the largest white-collar criminal trial of the 1990s. James Lieber profiles the witnesses, the defense lawyers and federal prosecutors, the inner workings of the Justice Department's Antitrust Division, and the unpredictable mole Lieber had access to. Regulating Cartels in Europe by Christopher Harding,Julian Joshua Pdf

One of the most contentious and high-profile aspects of European Community competition law and policy has been the regulation of what may be described as serious antitrust violations, typically involving large and powerful corporate producers and traders operating across Europe, if not also in awider international context. Such 'hard core' cartels characteristically engage in practices such as price fixing, bid rigging, market sharing and limiting production in order to ensure 'market stability' and maintain and increase profits. There is little doubt now in terms of competition theory andpolicy at both international and national levels about the damaging effect of such trading practices on public and consumer interests, and such cartels have been increasingly strongly condemned in the legal process of regulating and protecting competition. Indeed, a number of legal systems are nowfollowing the American lead in criminalizing such activity. This may therefore be seen as the 'hard end' of the enforcement of competition policy, requiring more confrontational and aggressive methods of regulation, yet also presenting considerable challenges to effective enforcement on account ofthe economic power, sophistication and determination of the typical participants in such cartels. The focus of this study is a critical evaluation of the way in which European-level regulation has evolved to deal with the problem of anti-competitive cartels. It traces the historical development of cartel regulation in Europe, comparing the pragmatic and empirical approach traditional in Europewith the more dogmatic and uncompromising American policy on cartels and asks whether a fully-fledged criminal proceeding (with its attendant level of legal safeguards) is the most appropriate approach to legal regulation .

Story of the Talking Bones by James Penning Pdf

This is a story about a modern day hunter that is hunting in a strange area, even though he hunted the Black Hills for over thirty years. During this hunt, he comes across burnt foundations and 5 graves. These stones have his relation names on them with the date of death all on the same day. He finds a skeleton nearby that he uncovers and says, "If only these bones could talk!" It goes back to 1866 through what happens, causing these deaths. It goes to 1877 and tells how the Davey is adopted. It follows the lives through the Deadwood gold discovery days. He and Russ have a ranch partnership and the story shows problems and events involved in ranching, and Indian problems. Many things happen, building friendships, also facing perils in those days. It explains the deaths of the family and finally uncovers the murderous deed and those responsible. It's based on historical facts, no one is written about without their permission. If it does cover anything or anyone, it is unintentional. I have written this book based on Christian background, without any swearing or sex, so it is readable for all ages.

Human Rights in the Market Place by Christopher Harding,Uta Kohl Pdf

The ideology of human rights protection has gained considerable momentum during the second half of the twentieth century at both national and international level and appears to be an effective lever for bringing about legal change. This book analyzes this strategy in economic and commercial policy and considers the transportation of the 'public law' discourse of basic human rights protection into the 'commercial law' context of economic policy, business activity and corporate behaviour. The volume will prove indispensable for anyone interested in human rights, international law, and business and commercial law.
