Government regulation on business management in Nigeria by Abayomi Adekunle Pdf

Project Report from the year 2017 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Africa, , course: Public Administration, language: English, abstract: There are various aims behind the course of this study. The first objective is to highlight the reasons for government regulation on business management in Nigeria. Then, the study examines the role of government regulation in the development of business management in Nigeria and it analyzes the strategies used by government in regulating business management in Nigeria. The last objective is to examine the effects of government regulation on business management in Nigeria. A government formulates many rules and regulations that guide businesses. Businesses will normally change the way they operate according to the influence these rules and regulations have on the competitiveness and profitability of businesses. Business owners must comply with the regulations established by Federal, State and Local Government. Small business is facing many challenges nowadays, none of which are more forbidding than a burden. Federal government regulations and mandates threaten investment and stifle job growths. When the government imposes regulations on small businesses that drive up the cost of doing business, it’s like imposing a tax. A tax is a compulsory contribution to the state revenue which the government determines according to the workers’ income and business profit and which is also added to the cost of some goods, services and transactions. A government can implement a policy that can change the social behavior in the business environment. For instance, the existence of the Nigeria Breweries Plc operation under the company law regulating the activities of business enterprises is due to the fact that the following itemized law acts have been regulating the activities of this company with the motive of enhancing the social, political and economic growth and development of the country. Some of the agencies responsible for business regulations are the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), the Anti-Counterfeiting Collaboration (ACC), the Music Regulation of Nigeria (MRN) etc. Therefore, it is clear that the role of a government is to protect and represent the interest of the society and the citizenry in which business operates. It can be further said that a government through regulations protects consumers from abuse and ensures efficiency in the use of resources and promotes equitable distribution of income.

The Investment Treaty Regime and Public Interest Regulation in Africa by Dominic Npoanlari Dagbanja Pdf

A large amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) has been poured into Africa in recent decades and these investments can come with adverse effects on the environment, human rights, and development. At the same time, investment treaties, entered into by African states and aimed at promoting and protecting FDI, seriously limit those states' ability to regulate such activities in the interests of affected communities. Whilst these tensions have generated global debate, little attention has been paid to the legal status of many of these investment treaties, and whether - given their constitutional and customary international law obligations to act in the public interest - African states truly have the capacity to conclude treaties which contain standards of investment protection expressly preventing or unduly abridging the exercise of their regulatory authority. Focusing on this question, The Investment Treaty Regime and Public Interest Regulation in Africa presents The Imperatives Theory: a legal, normative, and principled framework for rethinking the legal status, making, and reform of investment treaties and investment dispute settlement in Africa, with relevant and significant implications for the global investment treaty regime.

Business and Government Relations in Africa by Robert A. Dibie Pdf

This book endeavors to take the conceptualization of the relationship between business, government and development in African countries to a new level. In the twenty-first century, the interests and operations of government and business inevitably intersect all over the African continent. No government, federal or state, can afford to ignore the needs of business. But what are these needs, how does business express its needs to government and what institutions organize government-business relations in African countries? How should government regulate business, or should it choose to let the markets rule? Government and Business Relations in Africa brings together many of sub-Saharan African leading scholars to address these critical questions. Business and Government Relations in Africa examines the key players in the game—federal and state governments and business groups—and the processes that govern the relationships between them. It looks at the regulatory regimes that have an impact on business and provides a number of case studies of the relationships between government and economic development around the African continent, highlighting different processes and practices. It shows the latest state of knowledge on the topic and will be of interest both to students at an advanced level, academics and reflective practitioners. It addresses the topics with regard to business-government relations and will be of interest to researchers, academics, policymakers, and students in the fields of African politics, comparative politics, public policy, business and politics, sustainable development and sustainability, economic development, and managerial economics.
