Grits, God Reigns In The Soul by Pam Morris Hanckel Pdf

The Holy City I am blessed to have been born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina--the Holy City. With her rich history, culture, and traditions spanning many generations, I am taken back in time as I walk along the cobblestone streets, stroll the Battery, take a carriage ride, and admire the historic homes and beautiful iron gates. Surrounded by water, wetlands, sandy beaches, and steeples rising far above the rooftops, this city by the sea will lure you into her beauty. Explore the waterways and marshlands, feel the soft beach sand between your toes, and observe the abundant birds and wildlife, and you too will be captivated by the treasures in this beautiful city and its surroundings. I have learned so many life lessons in the marshes, creeks, rivers, and beaches that surround this beautiful city. I still love to watch the sunsets, smell the pluff mud, and listen to the sound of the ocean as it breaks over the beach. The excitement never diminishes when a fish nibbles at my line, or I pull up a net full of shrimp, or chase a crab on the dock with his claws snapping in defense. I still love the feel of the wind on my face as I travel on a boat along the waterways. The nature and beauty that surround me give me a great spirit of peace, hope, faith, and love. I am able to see God's great creation everywhere I turn. I feel very close to my Creator here. I cannot possibly thank God enough for all the many blessings He has bestowed on me. Most of the devotions in this book come from true stories of my experiences in this beautiful place and the way these adventures have led to the faith I now have and want to share with you. I hope you will enjoy them too.

Grits by Pam Morris Hanckel Pdf

This book started out a as a collection of e-mails I sent to my family and friends from time to time. They were all signed, "Love, Grits", the name given to me by my grandchildren, short for "Granny Grits." I felt it appropriate to keep them as true to the originals as I could. When I compiled the devotions into this book, and was thinking of a title, I realized that Grits spelled out God Reigns in the South and knew that had to be the title. I am sure that was a little divine intervention. I also had taken many photographs (a love of mine) that amazingly coincided with the themes of many of the stories, so I decided to include them also. I never imagined that the pictures and stories would come together to tell a story but God had a plan all along and therefore the creation of "Grits, God Reigns in the South." This book of devotions developed because of the love and encouragement of my friends and family. I thank them all for the love and happiness they give to me each day and especially my husband for his patience, his support for this project, and his understanding as I spent many hours at the computer. I also can not possibly thank my special friends Beth Renken and John Hope who proof read and corrected my many mistakes. The original goal of this project was to try and strengthen the faith of my family and friends, but in the end, it was actually my own faith that was renewed and strengthened. I pray that as you read this book, your faith will be strengthened, you will find comfort in times of need, and that you will find joy in the world all around you. Read and Enjoy. Love, Grits

The Girl Who Wrote in Silk by Kelli Estes Pdf

A USA TODAY BESTSELLER! "A powerful debut that proves the threads that interweave our lives can withstand time and any tide, and bind our hearts forever."—Susanna Kearsley, New York Times bestselling author of Belleweather and The Vanished Days A historical novel inspired by true events, Kelli Estes's brilliant and atmospheric debut is a poignant tale of two women determined to do the right thing, highlighting the power of our own stories. The smallest items can hold centuries of secrets... While exploring her aunt's island estate, Inara Erickson is captivated by an elaborately stitched piece of fabric hidden in the house. The truth behind the silk sleeve dated back to 1886, when Mei Lien, the lone survivor of a cruel purge of the Chinese in Seattle found refuge on Orcas Island and shared her tragic experience by embroidering it. As Inara peels back layer upon layer of the centuries of secrets the sleeve holds, her life becomes interwoven with that of Mei Lein. Through the stories Mei Lein tells in silk, Inara uncovers a tragic truth that will shake her family to its core—and force her to make an impossible choice. Should she bring shame to her family and risk everything by telling the truth, or tell no one and dishonor Mei Lien's memory? A touching and tender book for fans of Marie Benedict, Susanna Kearsley, and Duncan Jepson, The Girl Who Wrote in Silk is a dual-time period novel that explores how a delicate piece of silk interweaves the past and the present, reminding us that today's actions have far reaching implications. Praise for The Girl Who Wrote in Silk: "A beautiful, elegiac novel, as finely and delicately woven as the title suggests. Kelli Estes spins a spellbinding tale that illuminates the past in all its brutality and beauty, and the humanity that binds us all together." —Susan Wiggs, New York Times bestselling author of The Beekeeper's Ball "A touching and tender story about discovering the past to bring peace to the present." —Duncan Jepson, author of All the Flowers in Shanghai "Vibrant and tragic, The Girl Who Wrote in Silk explores a horrific, little-known era in our nation's history. Estes sensitively alternates between Mei Lien, a young Chinese-American girl who lived in the late 1800s, and Inara, a modern recent college grad who sets Mei Lien's story free." —Margaret Dilloway, author of How to Be an American Housewife and Sisters of Heart and Snow

Love, Lucas by Chantele Sedgwick Pdf

A 2015 Whitney Award Nominee! A powerful story of loss, second chances, and first love, reminiscent of Sarah Dessen and John Green. When Oakley Nelson loses her older brother, Lucas, to cancer, she thinks she’ll never recover. Between her parents’ arguing and the battle she’s fighting with depression, she feels nothing inside but a hollow emptiness. When Mom suggests they spend a few months in California with Aunt Jo, Oakley isn’t sure a change of scenery will alter anything, but she’s willing to give it a try. In California, Oakley discovers a sort of safety and freedom in Aunt Jo’s beach house. Once they’re settled, Mom hands her a notebook full of letters addressed to her—from Lucas. As Oakley reads one each day, she realizes how much he loved her, and each letter challenges her to be better and to continue to enjoy her life. He wants her to move on. If only it were that easy. But then a surfer named Carson comes into her life, and Oakley is blindsided. He makes her feel again. As she lets him in, she is surprised by how much she cares for him, and that’s when things get complicated. How can she fall in love and be happy when Lucas never got the chance to do those very same things? With her brother’s dying words as guidance, Oakley knows she must learn to listen and trust again. But will she have to leave the past behind to find happiness in the future?
