Historical Dictionary of Ecumenical Christianity by Ans Joachim van der Bent Pdf

This historical dictionary covers the major trends in the 20th century ecumenical movement until today. It deals with developments in the realms of church unity, mission and evangelism, laity, women in church and society, and many other ecumenical subjects. It also covers many programs and activities of the World Council of Churches since its inception in 1948. The longer articles survey important theological themes while short articles provide quick reference on a precise question. The bibliography is not exhaustive-some 50,000 titles have been published since the beginning of this century-but very helpful for major bibliographical information. The dictionary is particularly strong in American subjects and includes a great number of ecuminical personalities which cannot be found in other reference works. This publication is not only an indispensible tool of research for university and seminary libraries but also for individual persons belonging to whatever Christian church who are interested in knowing more about reflections, relations, and activities in the several regions of the ecumenical world. A helpful description of the most important ecumenical assemblies and conferences is provided. To take stock of the past, to interpret the present, and to look forward into the third millenium of Christian existence are exciting and challenging enterprises.

United and Uniting by Albert J.D. Walsh Pdf

The United Church of Christ was formed in 1957 to be first and foremost a proactive agent in the often tangled but nonetheless breathtaking ministry and mission of ecumenicity in the pursuit of ever greater visible unity among the diversity of Christian churches. This singular task of ecumenicity is arguably the most crucial in the formulation of an ecclesiology essential to the United Church of Christ as a "united and uniting" church; a mission Albert Walsh refers to in this book as her God given "vision-and-vocation." In United and Uniting, Walsh contends that the identity and self-understanding of the UCC at both national and local levels is best comprehended as a "Christ-centered" and "conciliar" fellowship, and therefore her ecclesiology must be fundamentally ecumenical. A Christ-centered ecumenicity must shape, inform, and characterize the whole of her ecclesiology, and membership in the UCC is defined almost exclusively in terms of a "conciliar" identity. Walsh advocates a return to ecumenical formation at the level of the grassroots or membership in the local congregation as holding the greatest promise for furtherance of the wider ecumenical mission.

Theology of the New Testament by Frank S. Thielman Pdf

Studying the theology of the New Testament can be a daunting task, even to the knowledgeable Bible student or pastor. Each of the twenty-seven books, written by various authors, has its own theological emphasis and nuances. How do we elicit a coherent message from such theological diversity, especially given that some of the theological statements in the New Testament seem to be at odds with one another? Is such an endeavor achievable or even valid? Theology of the New Testament takes a balanced approach in response to these challenges. Frank Thielman presents a theology of the New Testament that is careful to take into account the cultural and historical circumstances surrounding each book and the New Testament as a whole. He not only examines each book’s theological content individually, but also in relation to the rest of the New Testament, particularly within each of the three theological units that comprise the New Testament: the gospels and Acts, the Pauline epistles, and the general epistles and Revelation. This canonical and synthetic approach honors both the theological diversity of the various books and the theological connections between the books. In the end, Thielman finds a unified theological vision of the New Testament, anchored in the centrality of Jesus Christ. Frank Thielman’s Theology of the New Testament is an outstanding achievement. The book is marked by scholarly depth, exegetical rigor, and theological profundity. Both students and professors will profit immensely from this lucid treatment of the theology contained in the New Testament documents. Thomas R. Schreiner Professor of New Testament, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary An accessible presentation of the key theological points of the New Testament books by an accomplished New Testament scholar and teacher. Its clear style, lucid organization, and sound theological insight make it a prime resource for serious students in both the academy and the church. Karen H. Jobes, PhD Associate Professor of New Testament, Westmont College

How Unity Can Benefit by Anthony Bright Atwam Pdf

The Importance of Unity This book is the product of my experience and research on the importance of unity. Years ago, my marriage was not working the way I wanted. Upon careful thought, I realized my wife and I were not SO HOW CAN WE ACHIEVE UNITY? Experience and research have shown that if six conditions can be met in any relationship, church, organization, or a nation, unity can be achieved and maintained. This book will show you all! If your relationship is not working well, don't give up, strive for unity. If your church is not growing or doing well don't give up, strive for unity. Even the almighty God is also working hard to unite all people to himself! This book would be good for couples, singles, Pastors and their church members, managers, Politicians and individuals. WHAT ELSE WILL THE READER TAKE AWAY FROM THIS BOOK? The reader will also learn that there are three main things to pursue in life in order to have a satisfactory, meaningful and complete life. Many people are not happy these days, some even end up committing suicide, this book can help! You will also learn some of the mistakes the man or the woman makes that can destroy unity in the relationship and how couples can set up fi nancial and other guidelines in the family to bring about unity. The kind of leader a country gets depends on the lifestyle the people aspire? If the citizens want good life, they will get a good leader; if the citizens desire immoral bad lifestyle, they will get a bad leader! The book also enlists some of the mistakes church members, and Pastors make that hinder their blessings, growth, and unity in the church. How to know you have been called by God to be his servant, a pastor, a prophet, fi nd out more! The reader will also discover that this world is heading toward a condition of harmony, peace, and unity, but science and many people have not been able to understand this process so far. Why? This is because science is limited although useful. Individuals, families and nations will benefit greatly if they turn to God for help than to live without the influence of God! The issue of same sex partnership & gun control can easily divide a society; these have been discussed objectively in this book! strongly united in heart and in purpose. Again when we were planting a church and a training college in 2004 and in 2012 respectively, I also realized during these periods that, it was not enough for me to have a dream or a good project, I also needed a united people to support me and the project. So I began to research on the subject of unity, and came to the conclusion that Unity is very important in every aspect of life.
