Way To Grow by Ronald J. Lavin Pdf

Nothing is more important for ministry today than small groups. (George Gallop Jr., a Christian who conducts polls on political and religious matters, quoted in chapter 1 of this book.) Lavin is quick to point out that this book is not merely about numerical growth. It is about nurturing spiritual growth, which in itself is a dynamic that leads to growth in numbers. Use this publication as a workbook. The chapters each end with fascinating questions for consideration and group discussion. Dr. Lavin offers five different kinds of group structures for discipleship development. Each is fully explored, offering the reader or study participant the opportunity to determine which style best fits their group. He also lists five essentials that must be present for any group to function effectively. Lavin has had over 35 years of experience in the ministry, during which time he has refined the methods that are most successful in leading people to commitment and discipleship. This book is filled with fascinating anecdotes and stories that have grown out of his experience with congregations where impressive growth has taken place. Dr. Ronald J. Lavin is Senior Pastor of King of Glory Lutheran Church, Fountain Valley, California. He previously served congregations in Indiana, Iowa, and Arizona. In each church where he served as pastor the membership doubled. He graduated cum laude from Carthage College, Northwestern Theological School of Theology, and engaged in graduate studies at the Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago. Lavin has published twelve books and numerous magazine articles. He has been in demand as a speaker and seminar leader at schools and churches throughout the country as well as in several foreign countries.

Sustaining Self-Help Groups for Quality of Life and Community Development by Jose Kattakkara C.M.I. Pdf

Provide Help and Create Hope For the past 12 years I have been working with the nursing homes in USA in the capacity of a priest and a social worker. I am providing care in 24 nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospices in 4 districts (counties) in the State of Texas as well as visiting hospitals and area prisons. I consider it more than a job but rather a life-giving commitment for life enrichment and to make the people happier with a professional and spiritual outlook. It is a holistic approach for the well-being of every resident to improve the quality of life. We cannot divide body and soul and treat separately. Physical, psychological, social and spiritual wellbeing are intimately connected, go hand in hand and support each other for self fulfilment and self-realization. In these nursing homes I meet people from all over the world. For example, the majority are from USA, then from Mexico, Cuba, Honduras, Germany, England, Japan, Bangladesh, China, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Italy and Vietnam. People from these countries practice different religions. They are from different colour, ethnicity and race. I hear the residents speaking in different languages although they do not fully understand, yet are able to communicate their immediate needs. They live under one roof as members of the same family and eat the same food in the same dining room cooked by the same staff in the same kitchen. When I conduct prayer services or gatherings, those who are interested will come no matter which faith or religion they follow. As someone said to me “although I belong to a different religion I would love to come and join here for prayer.” I have never felt any discrimination based on religion, language, nationality or racism in these facilities. In these nursing homes there is no division or hate based on religion, colour or race but only bridges which promote solidarity, love, harmony and universal brotherhood. If these people can live under one roof, eat the same food and pray together then what excuses do we have? No religion teaches division, hate or retaliation but promotes only Love and compassion. My wish is to see the promotion of religion of Humanity by everyone and the practice of God’s Love everywhere.

Analysis on Lie Groups with Polynomial Growth by Nick Dungey,A.F.M. (Tom) ter Elst,Derek William Robinson Pdf

Analysis on Lie Groups with Polynomial Growth is the first book to present a method for examining the surprising connection between invariant differential operators and almost periodic operators on a suitable nilpotent Lie group. It deals with the theory of second-order, right invariant, elliptic operators on a large class of manifolds: Lie groups with polynomial growth. In systematically developing the analytic and algebraic background on Lie groups with polynomial growth, it is possible to describe the large time behavior for the semigroup generated by a complex second-order operator with the aid of homogenization theory and to present an asymptotic expansion. Further, the text goes beyond the classical homogenization theory by converting an analytical problem into an algebraic one. This work is aimed at graduate students as well as researchers in the above areas. Prerequisites include knowledge of basic results from semigroup theory and Lie group theory.

Small Groups as Complex Systems by Holly Arrow,Joseph E. McGrath,Jennifer L. Berdahl Pdf

What are groups? How do they behave? Arrow, McGrath, and Berdahl answer these questions by developing a general theory of small groups as complex systems. Basing their theory on concepts distilled from general systems theory, dynamical systems theory, and complexity and chaos theory, they explore groups as adaptive, dynamic systems that are driven by interactions among group members as well as between the group and its embedding contexts. In addition, they consider not only the group's members and their distribution of attributes, but also the group's tasks and technology in order to understand how those members, tasks, and tools are intertwined, coordinated, and adjusted. Throughout the book, the authors focus our attention on relationships among people, tools, and tasks that are activated by a combination of individual and collective purposes and goals that change and evolve as the group interacts over time.

True North Groups by Bill George,Douglas M. Baker Pdf

The challenges we face these days are so great that we cannot rely entirely on ourselves, our communities, or our organizations to support us and help us stay on track. We need a small group of people with whom we can have in-depth discussions and share intimately about the most important things in our lives—our happiness and sadness, our hopes and fears, our beliefs and convictions. For the past thirty-five years, Bill George and Doug Baker have found the answer in what they call True North Groups. “At various times,” George and Baker write, “a True North Group will function as a nurturer, a grounding rod, a truth teller, and a mirror. At other times the group functions as a challenger or an inspirer. When people are wracked with self-doubts, it helps build their courage and ability to cope.” Drawing on recent research in psychology and sociology, George and Baker explain why True North Groups are so critical to helping us develop the self-awareness, compassion, emotional intelligence, and authenticity required to be inspired human beings and inspiring leaders. They cover every detail from choosing members, establishing norms, and dealing with conflicts to evaluating progress and deciding when it’s time to restructure. True North Groups provides a wealth of practical resources, including suggested topics for the first twelve meetings, advice on facilitating groups, techniques to evaluate group satisfaction, and much more. For the millions of people who are searching for greater meaning and intimacy in their lives, this book will help them to grow as leaders and as people—and to stay on course to their True North.
