Beyond Here and Now by Barbara Davis Slotnick Pdf

HAUNTED HOUSES ARE REAL I grew up in a wonderful, historic small town in South Carolina. Even today, I still love the history of this old town and the many friends I have come to know. In the 1980s, years later when I was grown and had children of my own, I rented an apartment in one of the historical houses that had been renovated into apartments in 1963. We were excited and felt fortunate to have found such an amazing place to live and be back in my hometown again. However, this unusual house had some interesting things happen in it while we lived there; much to my surprise. As if it were planned by some unseen being, my children and I began noticing some very unusual occurrences. My daughter was twelve years old at the time and was a cheerleader in the school she attended. Each night, she placed her cheerleading pom-poms on the corners of the bed posts of the bed, which she and I both shared. I always watched the news at night before bedtime. One winter night in 1983 around 11:15 p.m., the pom-poms began twisting like little pieces of paper as if they had an energy source from something I didnt understand. One pom-pom flew off of the bedpost and landed in the corner across the room. The next night around the same time, the other pom-pom flew off its post into the same corner. I was so shocked! I left them both lying there until my daughter had to use them again, which was the next day. The old house was huge and cold. On another winter night, my daughter and I were sleeping in the same room and the same bed as before. All of a sudden, my feet began feeling hot, so I took off my socks. I left them under the covers in case I needed them later. About thirty minutes later, the socks began moving up toward me under the cover, to the edge, and over the end of the bed. I was so scared I couldnt move! My daughter was still sleeping. Then a pair of pillows began to move across the wooden part of the foot of the bed at the end, and landed beside the socks. When this happened, I quickly awoke my daughter and we got out of that bed and that room. When I went to check the room the next morning, the socks were placed side by side and the pillows were arranged as if they were for show. At this point, I felt that I needed an outside opinion of my experiences. I then called one of the universities I was acquainted with about my experiences. They wanted to send a scientist to visit me and the house. However, my daughter was against it. They sent an engineer instead. The engineer, after much observation, informed me that I and my daughter were clairvoyant and that some form of an entity was in the house. He said that a lot of things that was going on could possibly be explained based on the history of the house, but not all of them. From time-to-time, several other unexplained incidences happened before I decided to move away from all of this. Sometimes, the telephone receiver would jump off its cradle, Christmas bulbs would swing back and forth on the tree, and water kept coming on in the bathroom when no one was present. My daughter and I had no choice but to leave this unpredictable place. Soon after, we moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C. We thought we had left the past behind, however, in our new house, locks and doors would open, as well as other things that occurred. Over the years since then, things seemed to have calmed down. Even though I have been told that my daughter and I could both have psycokinesis; she denies her powers.

Asymmetric Warfare in South Asia by Peter R. Lavoy Pdf

The 1999 conflict between India and Pakistan near the town of Kargil in contested Kashmir was the first military clash between two nuclear-armed powers since the 1969 Sino-Soviet war. Kargil was a landmark event not because of its duration or casualties, but because it contained a very real risk of nuclear escalation. Until the Kargil conflict, academic and policy debates over nuclear deterrence and proliferation occurred largely on the theoretical level. This deep analysis of the conflict offers scholars and policymakers a rare account of how nuclear-armed states interact during military crisis. Written by analysts from India, Pakistan, and the United States, this unique book draws extensively on primary sources, including unprecedented access to Indian, Pakistani, and U.S. government officials and military officers who were actively involved in the conflict. This is the first rigorous and objective account of the causes, conduct, and consequences of the Kargil conflict.

Conflict Unending by Šumit Ganguly Pdf

The escalating tensions between India and Pakistan have received renewed attention of late. Since their genesis in 1947, the nations of India and Pakistan have been locked in a seemingly endless spiral of hostility over the disputed territory of Kashmir. Ganguly asserts that the two nations remain mired in conflict due to inherent features of their nationalist agendas. Indian nationalist leadership chose to hold on to this Muslim-majority state to prove that minorities could thrive in a plural, secular polity. Pakistani nationalists argued with equal force that they could not part with Kashmir as part of the homeland created for the Muslims of South Asia. Ganguly authoritatively analyzes why hostility persists even after the dissipation of the pristine ideological visions of the two states and discusses their dual path to overt acquisition of nuclear weapons, as well as the current prospects for war and peace in the region.

India's Nuclear Diplomacy After Pokhran II by Ajai K. Rai Pdf

India s emergence as a confident and responsible nuclear nation has required careful crafting of its nuclear policies. After Pokhran II and the Chagai Hills tests, the South Asian security architecture and, with it, the whole matrix of nuclear diplomacy had undergone a paradigmatic shift. India s nuclear diplomacy too acquired a new prominence after these events. It was important for India to improve its bilateral relations with major powers for strategic reasons. At the same time, it needed to address the challenge of its burgeoning energy needs at home. "India s Nuclear Diplomacy After Pokhran II" presents an analytical, perspective-based and narrative exposition of the facts and issues involved in international nuclear gamesmanship, taking every care to maintain objectivity and balance. Flowing from years of intensive research and reflection, this book breaks new ground by focusing on India s nuclear diplomacy with the major global and regional powers, and the rationale of its stand vis-a-vis the NPT and CTBT. To reach out to the general reader, in addition to scholars of the subject, this book unravels the intricacies and technicalities of the post-Pokhran II diplomacy in lucid and comprehensible phraseology."

The Politics of Dialogue by Ranabir Samaddar Pdf

Offering a detailed analysis of post-colonial South Asia, The Politics of Dialogue discusses the creation and impact of borders and the pervasive tension between the new nations. Neither all-out war nor complete peace, this fragile condition makes political leaders and strategists feel claustrophobic - a war produces an end result but peace allows the rulers to carry out their policies for governing along their preferred path of development. The book shows how cartographic, communal and political lines are not only dividing countries, but that they are being replicated within countries, creating new visible and invisible internal frontiers. It argues that, in a situation where geopolitics constrains democracy, the political class becomes incapable of coping with the tension between the inside/outside, eg democracy appears as an internal problem and geopolitics appears as a problem related to the 'outside'.

Inside ISI by S K Datta Pdf

The book is relevant to all those who wish to know why and how terrorism shifted from West Asia to South and Southeast Asia and Africa. This significant shift needs to be studied in depth for policy formulation and future strategy. The book will reveal that the so called Islamic Terrorism is traceable to Pakistan from concept to reality. Pakistan as a state has provided the platform for outward and inward march of Jihadis. For this to happen, the ISI has been playing the principal role. Thus, the focus in this book is on ISI as an instrument of spreading jihadi culture in Pakistan and elsewhere.

Goodbye, Guns N’ Roses by Art Tavana Pdf

Goodbye, Guns N’ Roses transports the reader into a mind-altering trip through the colors, scandals, nihilism, and mythology that make Guns N’ Roses so much more than another “hair metal” band. A valentine and a breakup letter to one of rock’s most controversial bands. Goodbye, Guns N’ Roses is a genre-rattling attempt to explain the appeal of America’s most divisive rock band. While it includes uncharted history and the self-lacerating connoisseurship of a Guns N’ Roses fetishist, it is not a recycled chronicle — this book is a deconstruction of myth, one that blends high and low art sketches to examine how Guns N’ Roses impacted popular culture. Unlike those who have penned other treatments of what might be considered a clichéd subject, Art Tavana is not writing as a GNR patriot or former employee. His book aims to provide an untethered exploration that machetes through the jungle of propaganda camouflaging GNR’s explosive appeal. After circling the band’s three-decade plundering of American culture, Goodbye, Guns N’ Roses uncovers a postmodern portrait that persuades its viewer to think differently about their symbolic importance. This is not a rock bio but a biography of taste that treats a former “hair metal” band like a decomposing masterpiece. This is the first Guns N’ Roses book written for everyone; from the Sunset Strip to a hyper-digital generation’s connection to “Woke Axl,” it is a pop investigation that dodges no bullets.
