A Guide to Clinical Management and Public Health Response for Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) by WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific Pdf

Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common infectious disease caused by a group of enteroviruses, including coxsackievirus A16 (CA16) and enterovirus 71 (EV71). Over the last decade, many outbreaks of HFMD have been reported in countries of the Western Pacific Region. HFMD caused by EV71 is of particular concern because of the increased number of deaths associated with infection. Until now, there has been little guidance on HFMD caused by EV71. This publication provides practical support for the treatment, prevention and control of HFMD based on the most recent scientific literature and the current understanding and experiences of international experts. It is intended as a resource for both clinicians working with HFMD cases on a regular basis and for public health personnel who are responsible for preventing and responding to outbreaks of HFMD.

Dermatology Made Easy by Amanda Oakley Pdf

A concise overview of the common dermatological conditions most likely to present in general medicine From reviews: "... a perfect solution to the constant struggle that dermatology diagnosis presents to primary care physicians and other providers... This well-formatted book covers a vast array of topics ranging from common to rare skin disorders. The pictures are immensely helpful in the understanding of various skin rashes...." Fam Med 2019;51(5):451–452. “... easy to read and informative. One cannot emphasise enough the quality and comprehensive nature of the photographic content.... As someone who was interested in dermatology even as a medical student my only regret is that this book was not around when I was a student as it would have very adequately guided me into my beloved subspecialty.” Ulster Med J 2017;86(3):1–1. “The introduction outlines dermatological conditions by symptom, morphology and body site, providing an excellent index prior to delving into greater detail in the following chapters. The logical approach and level of detail make this text perfect for medical students, interns/residents, primary care physicians and other specialists who wish to quickly identify differential diagnoses or refresh their knowledge of dermatological conditions.” A Lecturer in Dermatology Dermatology Made Easy is based on the hugely popular DermNet New Zealand website and is designed to help GPs, medical students and dermatologists diagnose skin conditions with confidence. Once you have narrowed down the diagnosis, cross-references then guide you to more detailed descriptions, and another 700 photographs, covering: common infections inflammatory rashes non-inflammatory conditions skin lesions Every section provides consistent information on the disorder: who gets it and what causes it? what are the clinical features and does it cause any complications? how do you diagnose it? how do you treat it and how long does it take to resolve? The book concludes with a comprehensive section on further investigations and treatment options. Dermatology Made Easy combines the essential focus of the Made Easy book series with the authority and knowledge base of DermNet New Zealand’s unparalleled resources. Viral Zoonoses and Food of Animal Origin by Oskar-Rüger Kaaden,Claus-Peter Czerny,Werner Eichhorn Pdf

Since the central theme of this book is the transmission of disease agents through the food chain, we will examine influenza viruses from this perspective. Influenza A viruses are found in humans, pigs, horses, sea mammals, and also in wild aquatic and domestic birds [23]. How are they spread? Between mammals, influenza is an airborne infection, but between birds, influenza can be either an airborne or waterborne infection. Influenza viruses of aquatic birds periodically transmit to domestic birds sometimes with catastrophic effects; this transmis sion can be either airborne or waterborne. Less frequently, avian influenza viruses transmit to mammals and three to four times in the past century this transmission has initiated a pandemic of influenza in humans. The method of spread of avian influenza viruses to mammals remains unresolved, but could be either airborne or waterborne. In this report we will consider recent examples of interspecies transmission of influenza A viruses and the possible prevention of emergence of the next human pandemic which is considered imminent. The reservoirs of influenza A viruses The available evidence indicates that aquatic birds are the reservoirs of all 15 subtypes of influenza A viruses. We will first consider the replication of influenza A in aquatic birds. In wild ducks, influenza viruses replicate preferentially in the cells lining the intestinal tract, cause no disease signs, and 8 7 are excreted in high concentrations in the feces (up to 10 .

Family Medicine by A.K. David,T.A.Jr. Johnson,D.M. Phillips,J.E. Scherger,Robert B. Taylor Pdf

Much is new in Family Medicine since the last edition of our textbook. For example, not only is the therapy of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease and the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) much different than a few years ago; the epidemiol ogy of the disease has also changed and more than half of the family physicians in a rural state such as Oregon have already managed patients with HIV disease or AIDS. 1 There are new immunization recommendations for children and new antibiotics for the treatment of bacterial infections. Computers are bringing medical informatics and on-line consultation into office practice. Medicare physician payment reform is underway and the reality of rationing medical care has been recognized. There has been a recent increase in student interest in a family practice career,2 coincidental with a Council on Graduate Medical Education (COGME) recommendation that at least 50 percent of all residency graduates 3 should enter practice as generalists. Also there is increasing awareness of the need for a 4 Center for Family Practice and Primary Care at the National Institutes of Health. This all-new fourth edition is intended to present the scientific and practical basis of family medicine with special attention to what's new in family medicine. The emphasis is on how the physician provides continuing and comprehensive care for persons of all ages, with clinical content selected from the perspective offamily physicians. The format ofthe book, like the practice of family medicine, continues to change.
