Hans Andersen's Stories - Illustrated by Jennie Harbour by Hans Christian Andersen Pdf

Originally published in 1922, Hans Andersen Stories, is illustrated with the magnificent colour and black and white illustrations of Jennie Harbour. This collection contains some of Andersen’s best stories, including such well-known and loved tales as ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, ‘The Steadfast Tin Soldier’, ‘The Ugly Duckling’, ‘The Snow Queen’ and ‘The Princess and the Pea’. Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish poet and author celebrated for his children’s stories, but perhaps best known for his fables and fairy tales – meant for both adults and children. They were frequently written in a colloquial style, using idioms and spoken language in a manner previously unseen in Danish literature. Though simple at first glance, Hans Andersen stories often convey sophisticated moral teachings, in equal measure heart-breaking and heart-warming. Jennie Harbour (1893 – 1950) was an immensely talented and popular illustrator. Despite this, very little is known about her life. She managed to capture the public’s imagination with her delicate and ethereal illustrations. They most commonly featured subtle yet bold washes of colour, with few of the thick black outlines so common in other illustrations of the day. Vibrant colours and Art Deco patterns full of energy and emotion characterise Harbour’s work. Presented alongside the text, Harbour’s illustrations further refine and elucidate Andersen’s captivating narratives.

The Red Shoes - The Golden Age of Illustration Series by Hans Christian Andersen Pdf

This volume of the Golden Age of Illustration Series contains Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Red Shoes'. This classic fairy tale has been continuously in print in different editions since its first publication, with many, many, different artists illustrating the story over the years. This edition features a beautiful collection of the best of that art, taken from the likes of Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, Harry Clarke, Honor Appleton, Jennie Harbour, among others. This series of books celebrates the Golden Age of Illustration. During this period, the popularity, abundance and - most importantly - the unprecedented upsurge in the quality of illustrated works marked an astounding change in the way that publishers, artists and the general public came to view this hitherto insufficiently esteemed art form. The Golden Age of Illustration Series, has sourced the rare original editions of these books and reproduced the beautiful art work in order to build a unique collection of illustrated fairy tales. 'The Red Shoes' was first published in April of 1845, as part of Andersen's New Fairy Tales: First Volume, Third Collection. Andersen explained the source of the story as being an incident he had witnessed as a small child. His father, he stated, had been sent a piece of red silk by a rich lady, who wanted the material converted into a pair of dancing slippers. Andersen's father produced the slippers, but the rich woman was horrified at the result, and in reaction to her harsh criticism, he cut the shoes up in front of her.

STORIES FROM HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN - 7 Illustrated Children's stories from the Master Storyteller by Hans Christian Andersen Pdf

In this volume you will find 7 children’s stories by the master story-teller - Hans Christian Andersen. These 7 stories are accompanied by 28 exquisite colour plates by another master, Edmund Dulac. Included in this volume are The Mermaid, on which the famous statue is based and The Emperor's New Clothes which is always sure to make children giggle. Fancy, and emperor walking around with no clothes on. How rude! Andersen believed that wherever there are children, fairy tales will be read and loved. He was right then and he is still right today. The tales in this volume are: The Snow Queen The Nightingale The Real Princess The Garden Of Paradise The Mermaid The Emperor's New Clothes The Wind's Tale The power of his tales to charm and elevate runs like a living thread through whatever he writes. In the two books, the first of which is presented here, they have met the tests and held an undiminishing popularity among the best children's books. They have set the standard, and their place in permanent literature will grow wider and more secure as time passes. Only a few children's authors will be ranked among the Immortals, and Hans Andersen is without a doubt one of them. It adds a charm to the little stories of these two volumes to know that the genial author travelled widely for a man of his time and everywhere he went he was urged to tell the tales himself. Even though he had become world famous, he did with equal measures of charm and grace in the kitchens of the humble and in the courts of nobles and palaces of kings. =============== KEYWORDS: Hans Andersen Fairy Tales, Folklore, Myths, Legends, Children’s Stories, Bedtime, Fables, Read, School Children, Homes, Love To Read, Story-Teller, Imagination, Snow Queen, Seven Parts, Nightingale, Real Princess, Garden Of Paradise, Mermaid, Emperor's New Clothes, Wind's Tale, Mirror, Fragments, Little Boy, Little Girl, Garden, Woman. This unique new edition is translated by Susannah Mary Paull, (60 tales) and illustrated by Gordon Browne (with 54 original illustrations). Hans Christian Andersen (often referred to in Scandinavia as H. C. Andersen; April 2, 1805 - August 4, 1875) was a Danish author and poet. Some of his most famous fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Little Mermaid," "The Nightingale," "The Snow Queen," "The Ugly Duckling," "The Little Match Girl," "Thumbelina," and many others. His stories have inspired ballets, plays, and animated and live-action films. One of Copenhagen's widest and busiest boulevards is named "H.C. Andersens Boulevard."

Stories include: 'The Little Mermaid', 'The Emperor's New Clothes', 'Little Thumb', and 'The Snow Queen', 'The Galoshes of Fortune', 'The Red Shoes', 'The Wild Swans' and others. Hans Christian Andersen (1805 – 1875) was a Danish poet and author celebrated for his children’s stories but perhaps best known for his fables and fairy tales – meant for both adults and children. These tales are further enhanced by the wonderful watercolour illustrations of A. Duncan Carse - a lesser known though immensely accomplished artist and Golden Age illustrator. Andreas Duncan Carse (1876 - 1938) provided the illustrations for Lucy M. Scott’s Dewdrops from Fairyland in 1912 but it was Carse’s contributions to Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales that arguably solidified his reputation as an accomplished illustrator of children’s books.
