Fast Liquid-Phase Processes in Turbulent Flows by Karl Minsker,Alexander Berlin,Vadim Zakharov,Gennady Zaikov Pdf

This book deals with the fundamental laws of passing of fast liquid-phase chemical as well as heat and mass transfer processes in turbulent flows. The fundamental laws of passing of fast liquid-phase chemical and also heat and mass transfer processes in turbulent flows are considered in the book. Development of a macrokinetics approach is generalized to the analysis of fast chemical reactions mainly based on an example of cationic isobutylene polymerization, which falls into to a new class of liquid-phase processes. The ways of decision of the hydrodynamical, thermal and kinetic movement’s equations of reaction mixture in which the fast exothermic chemical reaction runs are described. The principles and laws of formation of the essentially new mode of quasi-plug-flow mode are considered in turbulent flows ensuring quasi-isothermal conditions in zone reaction. The principles of work and area of industrial use of tubular turbulent devices cylindrical reactor, divergent-covergent reactor, shell-and-tube reactor, and reactor with fractional introduction of reactants are considered.

Leading Edge Catalyis Research by Lawrence P. Bevy Pdf

The chemical or biological process whereby the presence of an external compound, a catalyst, serves as an agent to cause a chemical reaction to occur or to improve reaction performance without altering the external compound. Catalysis is a very important process from an industrial point of view since the production of most industrially important chemicals involve catalysis. Catalysis research is a major field in applied science, and involves many fields of chemistry and physics. The new book brings together leading research in this vibrant field.

Heterogeneous Catalysis and Fine Chemicals II by M. Guisnet,J. Barrault,C. Bouchoule,D. Duprez,G. Pérot,R. Maurel,C. Montassier Pdf

The recession in the traditional heavy industries along with the development of advanced technologies in all the industrial countries has meant that the impact of heterogeneous catalysis in the synthesis of fine chemicals is becoming increasingly noticeable. The second International Symposium on Heterogeneous Catalysis and Fine Chemicals is to be seen in this perspective. Organised by the Laboratory of Catalysis in Organic Chemistry of the University of Poitiers within the framework of the International Symposia of the `Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique' (CNRS), the symposium provided an opportunity for contact between academic researchers and manufacturers, users (or potential users) of solid catalysts for fine chemical synthesis. The book gives an overall view of the problems encountered by academic and industrial researchers. A large variety of reactions are described, the emphasis being on selectivity: chemo-, regio-, stereoselectivity (even enantioselectivity) and on the change of these selectivities as a function of the characteristics of the surface sites (nature, distribution, etc.). The three themes of the symposium, hydrogenation, oxidation and acid-base catalysis were introduced in four plenary lectures and two invited communications, maintaining a balance between the industrial and the academic points of view. Some 60 research papers selected by the Scientific Committee were presented. All are reproduced in full in this proceedings volume.

High Pressure Process Technology: Fundamentals and Applications by A. Bertucco,G. Vetter Pdf

Clear evidence of increasing demands in the processing industry prompted the editors and authors to publish a new book about High Pressure Process Technology: Fundamentals and Applications. This book presents the latest knowledge regarding the high pressure processing aspects combined with that about the modeling, the design and the operation of safe and reliable high pressure plants and equipment. This treatment and selection of the subjects is stimulating and unique. Consisting of nine chapters, each subdivided into several sections, the book addresses the high pressure aspects, providing well selected correlated information connected with a comprehensive overview together with a large number of references. The main body of the first eight chapters refers to subjects like high pressure in general, the thermodynamics and kinetics of the fluids involved, the design of high pressure equipment, the modeling and design of reactors, separation and fractionation units, the safety aspects, the control and economics. In the extended last chapter, examples of promising high pressure applications are explained, such as chemical and enzymatic reactions in supercritical solvents, hydrogenation under supercritical conditions, supercritical water oxidation, polymerization with metallocene catalysts, supercritical extraction, fractionation and precipitation, supercritical pharma processing, ultra-high pressure sterilization and supercritical dry-cleaning.

Aerosol Chemical Processes in the Environment by Kvetoslav R. Spurny Pdf

A compilation of the most important aerosol chemical processes involved in known scientific and technological disciplines, Aerosol Chemical Processes in the Environment serves as a handbook for aerosol chemistry. Aerosol science is interdisciplinary, interfacing with many environmental, biological and technological research fields. Aerosols and aerosol research play an important role in both basic and applied scientific and technological fields. Interdisciplinary cooperation is useful and necessary. Aerosol Chemical Processes in the Environment uses several examples to show the impact of aerosol chemistry in several different fields, mainly in basic and atmospheric research. The book describes the most important chemical processes involved in the various scientific and technological disciplines.

Transport and Chemical Transformation of Pollutants in the Troposphere by Peter Borrell,Patricia M. Borrell Pdf

A major environmental concern is the increasing burden on all scales of photo-oxidants, acidifying substances and potential nutrients in the troposphere. These lead to episodes of summer smog, and appreciable damage to eco-systems both on land and at sea. Underlying the environmental effects is the complex scientific problem of linking the man-made and biological emissions to the myriad chemical reactions that transform the pollutants as they are transported to and deposited in the surroundings and also pristine areas remote from the sources. The project, the scientific results of which are described in this book, was set up to study the problem in an inter-disciplinary way by co-ordinating the work of more than 150 research groups in some 20 countries.

This three-volume handbook provides an overview of the key aspects of micro process engineering. Volume 1 covers the fundamentals, operations and catalysts, volume 2 examines devices, reactions and applications, with volume 3 rounding off the trilogy with system, process and plant engineering. Fluid dynamics, mixing, heat/mass transfer, purification and separation microstructured devices and microstructured reactors are explained in the first volume. Volume 2 segments microreactor design, fabrication and assembly, bulk and fine chemistry, polymerisation, fuel processing and functional materials into understandable parts. The final volume of the handbook addresses microreactor systems design and scale-up, sensing, analysis and control, chemical process engineering, economic and eco-efficiency analyses as well as microreactor plant case studies in one book. Together, this 3-volume handbook explains the science behind micro process engineering to the scale-up and their real life industrial applications.

Heterogeneous Processes of Geochemical Migration by V. S. Golubev Pdf

The problem of the geochemical migration of elements has received wide attention in the works of V. I. Vernadskii and A. E. Fersman [1, 2J. Vernadskii considered geochemistry to be the science of the history of chemical elements on the earth, their distribution and move ments in space and time, and their genetic relations [IJ. Geochemical migration was defined by Fersman as "the movement of chemical elements in the earth's crust leading to their dissemination or concentration. " The views of Vernadskii and Fersman on the migration of elements have received added support and development in connection with successes in physics, chemistry, biology, and other sciences. According to Fersman, the earth is looked upon as a cosmic body, characterized by common origin and Similarity of composition with the sun, the planets, meteorites, and other bodies of the solar system. The scale and trend of geochemical migration of elements in the earth are determined by the initial state of terrestrial matter, its thermal history, and the scale of time. The rules of elemental migration are determined by internal and exterual fac tors. Fersman distinguishes five groups of internal factors, i. e.
