Heterogeneous Media by Sergey Kanaun Pdf

Heterogeneous Media: Local Fields, Effective Properties, and Wave Propagation outlines new computational methods for solving volume integral equation problems in heterogeneous media. The book starts by surveying the various numerical methods of analysis of static and dynamic fields in heterogeneous media, listing their strengths and weaknesses, before moving onto an introduction of static and dynamic green functions for homogeneous media. Volume and surface integral equations for fields in heterogenous media are discussed next, followed by an overview of explicit formulas for numerical calculations of volume and surface potentials. The book then segues into Gaussian functions for discretization of volume integral equations for fields in heterogenous media, static problems for a homogeneous host medium with heterogeneous inclusions, volume integral equations for scattering problems, and concludes with a chapter outlining solutions to homogenization problems and calculations of effective properties of heterogeneous media. The book concludes with multiple appendices that feature the texts of basic programs for solving volume integral equations as written in Mathematica. Outlines cutting-edge computational methods for solving volume integral equation problems in heterogeneous media Provides applied examples of approximation and other methods being employed Demonstrates calculation of composite material properties and the constitutive laws for averaged fields within them Covers static and dynamic 2D and 3D mechanical-mathematical models for heterogeneous media

Heterogeneous Media by Konstantin Markov,Luigi Preziosi Pdf

Most materials used in contemporary life and industry are heterogeneous (composites) and multicomponent, possessing a rich and complex internal structure. This internal structure, or microstructure, plays a key role in understanding and controlling the continuum behavior, or macroscopic, of a wide variety of materials. The modeling process is a critical tool for scientists and engineers studying the analysis and experimentation for the micromechanics and behavior of these materials. "Heterogeneous Media" is a critical, in-depth edited survey of the major topics surrounding the modeling and analysis of problems in micromechanics of multicomponent systems, including conceptual and practical aspects. The goal of this extensive and comprehensive survey is to provide both specialists and nonspecialists with an authoritative and interdisciplinary perspective of current ideas and methods used for modeling heterogeneous materials behavior and their applications. Topics and Features: * all chapters use interdisciplinary modeling perspective for investigating heterogeneous media*Five chapters provide self-contained discussions, with background provided*Focuses only upon most important techniques and models, fully exploring micro-macro interconnections*extensive introductory survey chapter on micromechanics of heterogeneous media*microstructure characterization via statistical correlation functions*micro-scale deformation of pore space*wave fields and effective dynamical properties*modeling of the complex production technologies for composite materials The book is ideal for a general scientific and engineering audience needing an in-depth view and guide to current ideas, methods and

Physical Mesomechanics of Heterogeneous Media and Computer-aided Design of Materials by Viktor E. Panin Pdf

The fundamentals of a new science - physical mesomechanics of heterogeneous media - are explained in the book. Mesomechanics is developed at the boundary between the mechanics of continuum and the physics of plasticity and strength of solids and examines the stressed material as a multilevel system in which micro-, meso- and macro levels are organically linked. Mesomechanics is the basis of the computer-aided design of materials with required properties. Examples of application of the new approach to developing constructional and other types of materials are described. The book will be of considerable interest to experts in the area of mechanics and physics of plasticity and strength of materials and physical and applied materials science.

Recent Advances in Problems of Flow and Transport in Porous Media by J.M. Crolet,M. El Hatri Pdf

Porous media, and especially phenomena of transport in such materials, are an impor1ant field of interest for geologists, hydrogeologists, researchers in soil and fluid mechanics, petroleum and chemical engineers, physicists and scientists in many other disciplines. The development of better numerical simulation techniques in combination with the enormous expansion of computer tools, have enabled numerical simulation of transport phenomena (mass of phases and components, energy etc. ) in porous domains of interest. Before any practical application of the results of such simulations can be used, it is essential that the simulation models have been proven to be valid. In order to establish the greatest possible coherence between the models and the physical reality, frequent interaction between numericians, mathematicians and the previously quoted researchers, is necessary. Once this coherence is established, the numerical simulations could be used to predict various phenomena such as water management, propagation of pollutants etc. These simulations could be, in many cases, the only financially acceptable tool to carry out an investigation. Current studies within various fields of applications include not only physical comprehension aspects of flow and energy or solute transport in saturated or unsaturated media but also numerical aspects in deriving strong complex equations. Among the various fields of applications generally two types of problems can be observed. Those associated with the pollution of the environment and those linked to water management. The former are essentially a problem in industrialized countries, the latter are a major source of concern in North-Africa.

Stochastic Methods for Flow in Porous Media by Dongxiao Zhang Pdf

Stochastic Methods for Flow in Porous Media: Coping with Uncertainties explores fluid flow in complex geologic environments. The parameterization of uncertainty into flow models is important for managing water resources, preserving subsurface water quality, storing energy and wastes, and improving the safety and economics of extracting subsurface mineral and energy resources. This volume systematically introduces a number of stochastic methods used by researchers in the community in a tutorial way and presents methodologies for spatially and temporally stationary as well as nonstationary flows. The author compiles a number of well-known results and useful formulae and includes exercises at the end of each chapter. Balanced viewpoint of several stochastic methods, including Greens' function, perturbative expansion, spectral, Feynman diagram, adjoint state, Monte Carlo simulation, and renormalization group methods Tutorial style of presentation will facilitate use by readers without a prior in-depth knowledge of Stochastic processes Practical examples throughout the text Exercises at the end of each chapter reinforce specific concepts and techniques For the reader who is interested in hands-on experience, a number of computer codes are included and discussed

Modelling Water Flow in Unsaturated Porous Media by Adam Szymkiewicz Pdf

The book focuses on two issues related to mathematical and numerical modelling of flow in unsaturated porous media. In the first part numerical solution of the governing equations is discussed, with particular emphasis on the spatial discretization of highly nonlinear permeability coefficient. The second part deals with large scale flow in heterogeneous porous media of binary structure. Upscaled models are developed and it is shown that the presence of material heterogeneities may give rise to additional non-equilibrium terms in the governing equations or to hysteresis in the averaged constitutive relationships.

Impulse Time-Domain Electromagnetics of Continuous Media by A. B. Shvartsburg Pdf

This book focuses on the interactions of ultrashort single-cycle electromagnetic pulses with dispersive, lossy, and magnetized media. A number of new results are presented here and are not found elsewhere in the literature. Comparisons between time-domain - frequency-domain methods will engage the broad electromagnetic theory community of physical and electrical engineers. In finding solutions directly in time domain, that is, beyond the scope of traditional Fourier presentations, A.B. Shvartsburg provides new insights for engineers and physicists in many areas: space and plasma physics, optics and communication theory, general and wave physics, optoelectronics, and radio techniques.
