Food and Feast in Modern Outlaw Tales by Alexander L. Kaufman,Penny Vlagopoulos Pdf

This collection of scholarly essays presents new work from in an emerging line of inquiry: modern outlaw narratives and the textual and cultural relevance of food and feasting. Food, its preparation and its consumption, is presented in outlaw narratives as central points of human interaction, community, conflict, and fellowship. Feast scenes perform a wide variety of functions, serving as cultural repositories of manners and behaviors, catalysts for adventure, or moments of regrouping and redirecting narratives. The book argues that modern outlaw narratives illuminate a potent cross-cultural need for freedom, solidarity, and justice, and it examines ways in which food and feasting are often used to legitimate difference, create discord, and manipulate power dynamics.

The Secret Hidden in Plain Sight by Hoppy Bishop Pdf

God and Christ desperately want us to know what Satan has been able to obscure and hide from mankind. Christ had one simple message he told everyone. We dont know what God and Christ desperately want us to know. The truth is in Scripture, and the keys to unlocking the secrets are available to this generation. This book will open your eyes to unbelievable truths. The story is so fantastic that it eclipses fiction, and much of what we have discovered flies in the face of inherited beliefs. We must be prepared to consider Scripture confirmed by history, current events, and new scientific discoveries. Gods holy day memorial commands and observances detail what has happened and what will surely happen again. The news is good for believers and those who are willing follow a simplified plan to understand what your Bible has to say about Gods purpose to save all mankind. Somehow, we have lost our way, and the secret is hidden in plain sight. It is in your Bible, but roadblocks have crept into our interpretations and our understanding that frustrate the efforts of what God and Christ have to say. Once you begin to challenge yourself to dig deeper, you will see and understand more of what God would have you know. There are signs and wonders in Scripture, in memorial observances, and in the heavens that will open your eyes to fantastic events around us right now.

In-Visible Simplicity by James Scott Rollo Pdf

There is knowledge, understanding, and spiritual illumination in this book never seen or written, ever, in the recorded commentary of biblical history. This is a phenomenon of the moment arising out of Words in Daniel's book that have been "closed up and sealed till the time of the end". The challenge confronting every Christian, regardless of his spiritual age or position, is in recognizing that there is much more to know about God than we know but to know more we must be willing to continually repent and change our minds when the Lord allows us to see a clearer vision of the Truth. Those who set aside every influence outside of the simple literal Words of inspired scripture receive knowledge and understanding unavailable from any other source. Theologians of every degree have never seen the thoughts and observations illuminated in the precept upon precept chapters of this book. If we allow the theologian, tradition, or the worldly church to control our mind, we will miss the blessing of simply believing the purity of the Word. God gave us a good mind and He expects us to use it to His glory by understanding the Words He wants us to hear. The In-Visible Truth is an immeasurable blessing, hidden in simplicity. Identifying doctrinal errors in the church along with seeing biblical specifics of RAPTURE carries the believer far beyond the significance of knowing when Jesus will come again. The Lord is right on time every time and it is now time that we understand many things that the He did not allow us to understand in the past. Be blessed. James Scott Rollo

Feasting seems to be an inseparable element of peoples’—especially their collective—lives. ___|___ The proposed volume consists of original unpublished texts in which their Authors search for the answers to the following questions: How far have we gone astray from the primeval idea of celebrating the feast, from understanding tradition in terms of the Romanian historian of religion, Mircea Eliade, or the French sociologist, Émile Durkheim? Are there still any traditional, in its very meaning, feasts? If not—if they are invented (Hobsbawm and Ranger [1983] 1992)—why are they called “traditional”? What elements have changed and why? What has had the greatest impact on celebrating feasts? What are the new factors influencing the course of a feast’s celebration? ___|___ It was difficult to categorize the texts contained in this book because the subjects discussed in them very often overlap. Still, it was possible to recognize several accentuated aspects that served as the basis for the division of the book into three sections: 1) Culture and Identity; 2) Ritual and Cultural Values; 3) Culture and Policy. The contributors are scholars who represent various international institutions and fields of research, and use different approaches and methodologies to study the subject of the feast. This publication is an opportunity to bring the results of their research together in one book. The volume contains chapters in which various aspects of feasts, festivals, and festivities perceived as a mirror of social and cultural changes in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries are presented. It provides a unique and rich resource in the fields of culture, folklore, religion, anthropology, sociology, as well as politics and other cultural and social sciences. In the future, we hope to broaden the scope of our research and to include more ethnic groups and their cultures in order to see the changes they have undergone and factors that caused them. _____ TABLE OF CONTENTS _____ Frédéric Armao (University of Toulon, France), Uisneach: from the Ancient Assembly to the Fire Festival 2017 | Key words: Bealtaine, folklore, Irish festivals, mythology, Uisneach _____ Bożena Gierek (Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland), Lajkonik (Hobby Horse) as Theatrum of the Period of Corpus Christi in Kraków (Poland) | Key words: Corpus Christi, feast, Lajkonik, raftsmen, theatrum _____ Tatiana Minniyakhmetova (University of Tartu, Estonia), Manifestation of Various Values in Traditional Udmurt Feasts | Key words: “beestings,” feast, porridge-meat, symbols, Udmurts _____ László Mód (University of Szeged, Hungary), Grape Harvest Feast as an Attempt to Develop Local Identity and Cultural Heritage. Hidden Truths of the Bible by Bishop Leighton Gordon Pdf

Do you desire to know the truth? There are a lot of misconceptions about the Bible. Lies are often passed down from generation to generation, manipulating the word of God. The only way to really and truly gain a full understanding of the Bible is by intensely studying it with great aspiration. Some may be fine with not knowing the complete truth, or pretending to be a sold out Christian, and not honestly knowing what Gods word says about many issues faced on a daily basis. Individuals may be fine displaying that tag that reads, Jesus is my co-pilot on the front of their car. In all reality, Jesus is the pilot; he operates the vehicle that drives us though life. Most of us are driving underage and need some parental guidance. God is our father and wants to keep us on the right path by nurturing us with his unique and supernatural word, The Bible. Jesus gives us the freedom to run to him or away from him. Hidden Truths challenges you to consider the truth and what it entails. Leighton directly approaches the truth in a daring way that reveals Jesus love for you and causes you to re-evaluate your relationship with Jesus. Leighton urges you to redevelop principles that you have been practicing the wrong way. The only right way to do things is by following Gods holy word.

A Feast of Vultures by Josy Joseph Pdf

'Every day, millions of people -- the rich, the poor and the many foreign visitors -- are hunting for ways to get their business done in modern India. If they search in the right places and offer the appropriate price, there is always a facilitator who can get the job done. This book is a sneak preview of those searches, the middlemen who do those jobs, and the many opportunities that the fast-growing economy offers.' Josy Joseph draws upon two decades as an investigative journalist to expose a problem so pervasive that we do not have the words to speak of it. The story is big: that of treacherous business rivalries, of how some industrial houses practically own the country, of the shadowy men who run the nation's politics. The story is small: a village needs a road and a hospital, a graveyard needs a wall, people need toilets. A Feast of Vultures is an unprecedented, multiple-level inquiry into modern India, and the picture it reveals is both explosive and frightening. Within these covers is unimpeachable evidence against some of the country's biggest business houses and political figures, and the reopening of major scandals that have shaped its political narratives. Through hard-nosed investigations and the meticulous gathering of documentary evidence, Joseph clinically examines and irrefutably documents the non-reportable. It is a troubling narrative, but also a call to action and a cry for change. A tour de force through the wildly beating heart of post-socialist India, the book is a must-read for anyone interested in understanding the large, unwieldy truth about this nation.

Lost Feast by Lenore Newman Pdf

A rollicking exploration of the history and future of our favorite foods When we humans love foods, we love them a lot. In fact, we have often eaten them into extinction, whether it is the megafauna of the Paleolithic world or the passenger pigeon of the last century. In Lost Feast, food expert Lenore Newman sets out to look at the history of the foods we have loved to death and what that means for the culinary paths we choose for the future. Whether it’s chasing down the luscious butter of local Icelandic cattle or looking at the impacts of modern industrialized agriculture on the range of food varieties we can put in our shopping carts, Newman’s bright, intelligent gaze finds insight and humor at every turn. Bracketing the chapters that look at the history of our relationship to specific foods, Lenore enlists her ecologist friend and fellow cook, Dan, in a series of “extinction dinners” designed to recreate meals of the past or to illustrate how we might be eating in the future. Part culinary romp, part environmental wake-up call, Lost Feast makes a critical contribution to our understanding of food security today. You will never look at what’s on your plate in quite the same way again.

Understanding Jesus by Joe Amaral Pdf

Modern-day Christians often bring their own presuppositions and assumptions to the reading of the Bible, not realizing how deeply their understanding of Christ's life and teachings is affected by a 21st-century worldview. In Understanding Jesus, author Joe Amaral delves deep into Jewish history, societal mores, and cultural traditions, closing the gap created by geographical distance and over two thousand years of history. Using a chronological approach to the life of Christ, he guides the reader through significant events such as Jesus' birth, baptism, and crucifixion, pointing out illuminating details that that the Western mind would normally miss. Amaral's premise is that to understand Jesus, we must understand the time and place in which he was born, the background from which he drew his illustrations, and the audience he spoke to. Throughout the book he explores specific terms, places, and events for their significance and shows how they add richness and meaning to the text. Topics include the connection between Jesus and John the Baptist, the annual Feasts and why they are important to modern Christianity, Jewish customs such as foot-washing, clean and unclean foods, paying tribute to political governments, and the significance of various miracles. In Understanding Jesus, Amaral draws back the curtain on a way of life that existed during the reign of the Caesars, and in doing so, reveals truths about the way we live more than two thousand years later, half a world away.

SEVERAL TIMES THROUGH THE YEARS WE HAVE STARTED ON A SERIES OF MESSAGES, TO DEAL WITH ALL SEVEN CHURCHES OF REVELATION CHAPTERS 2 & 3, BUT FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER, WE NEVER SEEMED TO BE ABLE TO COVER THEM ALL WITHOUT GETTING STOPPED. I HOPE TO BE ABLE TO GO THROUGH ALL 7 THIS TIME, AND LET THESE TAPED MESSAGES REPLACE ALL THE OTHERS WE NOW HAVE. FOR QUITE SOMETIME NOW, THE LORD HAS BEEN DEALING WITH ME CONCERNING THESE CHURCHES AND THE MANY BEAUTIFUL THINGS THAT ARE PORTRAYED BY THEM, THAT ACTUALLY AFFECT THE VERY HOUR OF TIME WE ARE NOW LIVING IN. NATURALLY WE UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE LIVING IN THE LATTER PART OF THE LAODICEAN CHURCH AGE THAT WAS PORTRAYED BY THE LITERAL CHURCH AT LAODICEA, DURING THE FIRST CENTURY OF CHRISTIANITY, AND CERTAINLY THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO BE SAID ABOUT THAT PARTICULAR SPIRIT THAT IS NOW RUNNING RAMPANT IN OUR DAY, BUT WE ARE GOING TO START WITH THE CHURCH AT EPHESUS, AND GO STRAIGHT THROUGH.
