High School Baseball by David A. Rositano Pdf

Finding potential players; attending to the logistical details of scheduling practices, games, banquets and summer leagues; developing an adequate preseason throwing program that will work in a high school gym; efficiently cutting players after tryouts; and promoting a high school baseball program throughout the community--these are just a few examples of the myriad duties assigned to a high school baseball head coach. This reference work assists coaches in simplifying their many tasks. Here is an easy-to-use handbook for beginning high school baseball coaches and seasoned veterans alike. It takes coaches step by step through the season, from the player search and the first team meeting through the end-of-season banquet (with suggestions for summer baseball as well!). Instructions for fundraising and promoting programs, creating efficient and effective practices, organizing both practice sessions and games, and simplifying baseball situations are all included. Over 40 different model documents are provided to help with the development of a baseball program: player information and evaluation forms; sample practice plans and pre-game schedules; checklists for preseason and postseason responsibilities; letters to teachers, counselors and parents; letters for starting a high school summer league; and the "cut letter" are all here. "Blueprints" for off-season weight-training and pre-season throwing programs are also offered, along with suggestions for upgrading baseball programs.

One Shot at Forever by Chris Ballard Pdf

"One Shot at Forever is powerful, inspirational. . . This isn't merely a book about baseball. It's a book about heart." -- Jeff Pearlman, New York Times bestselling author of Boys Will Be Boys and The Bad Guys Won In 1971, a small-town high school baseball team from rural Illinois, playing with hand-me-down uniforms and peace signs on their hats, defied convention and the odds. Led by an English teacher with no coaching experience, the Macon Ironmen emerged from a field of 370 teams to represent the smallest school in Illinois history to make the state final, a distinction that still stands. There the Ironmen would play against a Chicago powerhouse in a dramatic game that would change their lives forever. In this gripping, cinematic narrative, Chris Ballard tells the story of the team and its coach, Lynn Sweet: a hippie, dreamer, and intellectual who arrived in Macon in 1966, bringing progressive ideas to a town stuck in the Eisenhower era. Beloved by students but not administration, Sweet reluctantly took over the ragtag team, intent on teaching the boys as much about life as baseball. Together they embarked on an improbable postseason run that buoyed a small town in desperate need of something to celebrate. Engaging and poignant, One Shot at Forever is a testament to the power of high school sports to shape the lives of those who play them, and it reminds us that there are few bonds more sacred than that among a coach, a team, and a town. "Macon's run at the title reminds us why sports matter and why sportswriting has such great power to inspire. . . [It's] one hell of a good story, and Ballard has written one hell of a good book." -- Jonathan Eig, Chicago Tribune

Grayson Ford and Emma Kinglsey—close since they were kids, opposites in every way. He’s the stuff high school crushes are made of, Mister Popular, and captain of every team. She’s artsy, cute, and not in his league, though fully aware of Summerland’s I Dream of Dating Grayson Ford support group. I can’t say no. The girl’s had my heart since before I knew it went missing. He hides a life of hell. His father hates him, his mother’s gone. Emma is his only savior, yet she doesn’t know her power over him. She’s the only girl he wants, the only one he could ever tell—though he won’t. I’m stronger, bigger, more of a man than he’ll ever be, but because I ruined his life, I’ve taken his crap, his attacks, the vulgar nature of his existence. Until she discovers Gray’s embarrassment, his humiliation. Emma fights for him, for a chance. Theirs is a Cinderella story that she believes impossible. But as the layers peel back, it’s just a guy who needs a girl in order to keep breathing. My mind is already doodling Mrs. Grayson Ford in imaginary notebooks. He has no clue where my head is at… But, given that I didn’t see what just happened coming, maybe I have no clue where his head is at either. Only for Him is the first of four books in the Only series.

The Revised Early History of Warren Township High School and Its Sports Teams by James D. Lodesky Pdf

This book contains the early history of Warren Township High School from its beginnings as Gurnee’s two-year high school. The two-year high school evolved first into a three-year township high school and finally into a four-year township high school in 1917. The book also includes an early history of Warren’s sports teams, experiences of its students, and descriptions of life at Warren. There are also stories about no-table students, teachers, coaches, and prominent citizens in the area. If you are wondering why I named the book The Revised Early History of Warren Township High School, I’ll explain. Originally, I only intended to write a history of Warren’s football teams. While researching football, I occasionally ran across articles about the school’s early history. I saved what I found and filed it away. Then the Warren Township Historical Society asked me to write an account of Warren football for their newsletter. While writing about the football team I decided to add all the other information about Warren’s history that I found earlier, calling it the “Early History of Warren Township High School.” Six months after writing the article, I noticed a couple of mistakes that needed correction and decided to do a more in-depth study of the high school’s history. I ended up with enough Warren history that I was able to write this book and correct my mistakes as well.
