In Between the Stars by A. A. Ripley Pdf

What is alien and what is normal? To Inan, she’s just a girl on her homeworld, yet she dreams of travelling to the stars and experiencing all the adventures they promise. Dream is all she can do, as her people’s customs forbid girls to face dangers - especially amongst the stars. Instead of adventures, they are expected to serve their families as leaders and never take personal risks. But that is about to change as Inan’s life takes a sudden turn. A series of events lead to her being lost in space, shipwrecked and kidnapped by soldiers-turned-pirates, a remnant from the war fought many, many years ago. With only an alien being to keep her company, she is forced to use her wits to stay alive. As she struggles, she befriends Alan, a human boy who is little more than a captive himself. Yet things go from bad to worse after a failed escape attempt when Inan comes into contact with an unknown ancient artefact which ultimately will decide the fate of the whole galaxy. Catapulting the reader into an exciting space-opera universe, In Between the Stars is an original take on human-alien interactions, with quirky characters, high humour and endless amounts of drama. Readers aged 12 years and above will delight in the rich world that has been created, inspired by the likes of the great Science Fiction writers.

Hi-Jinks by Phil Coleman Pdf

Samantha is minding her own business, driving her taxi through St. Petersburg traffic, when a young woman jumps into the back of her cab and demands a ride. Samantha allows it, but she soon notices the young woman, who calls herself Alice, is wearing handcuffs. Lucky for Alice, Samantha has a buddy who can get them off. Tony removes Alice's handcuffs, and the young woman tells a horror story about pimps, child prostitution, and murder right on the Florida Suncoast. Samantha doesn't want to believe it, but when a body washes up on the beach soon after, men come knocking at Tony's door-bad men who beat Tony up, thinking he's hiding something. Now, Samantha and Tony are on the run, caught in a tangle of corruption and death. But Samantha is one tough chick, so she won't go down without a fight-neither will Tony. Together they struggle to put things right in their sunny state known for tourists and retirement-not sex slaves, sleeping with the fishes, and vengeful mobs.

Wizards by Brian Fairbanks Pdf

A corrupt old Democrat. A surging Republican populist. The Democrat, hounded by corruption allegations; the Republican, dogged by business failures and ties to white supremacists. The Republican turned out thousands of screaming supporters for speeches blaming illegal immigrants and crime on the Democrats, and the Democrat plummeted in the polls. Sound familiar? The '91 Louisiana Governor's race was supposed to be forgettable. But when former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke shocked the nation by ousting incumbent Republican Governor Buddy Roemer in the primary, the world took notice. Democrat Edwin Edwards, a former three-term governor and two-time corruption defendant, was left alone to face Duke in the general election—and he was going to lose. Then a little-known state committeewoman stepped in with evidence of Duke's nefarious past. Could her evidence be enough to sway the minds of fired-up voters, or would Louisiana welcome a far-right radical into the highest office in the state? Journalist Brian Fairbanks explores how the final showdown between Duke and Edwards in November 1991 led to a major shift in our national politics, as well as the rise of the radical right and white supremacist groups, and how history repeated itself in the 2016 presidential election. The story of these political "wizards," almost forgotten by history, remains eerily prescient and disturbingly relevant, and a compulsive page-turner.

Everybunny Loves Magic by Aaron Reynolds Pdf

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Aaron Reynolds comes the third hilariously macabre mystery in The Incredibly Dead Pets of Rex Dexter series. My name is Rex Dexter. Yes. THAT Rex Dexter. The one cursed with the ability to see and talk to dead animals. The solver of atrocities against the four-footed. The savior of the flipper-finned. Save your standing ovation for later, because I have bigger things on my mind. Rabbits. Specifically, dead rabbits. And not just anybunny. This particular gaggle of rabbits once belonged to the Astounding Isabel, Middling Falls’ foremost birthday party magician. One thing has quickly become clear…somebunny hates magic. Whoever it is, they’re attempting to put the Astounding Isabel out of the birthday biz for good. And they’re willing to whack a whole lotta bunnies to do it. It’s a cold cruel world out there. But don’t worry. I’m on the case. And so is Darvish. And Drumstick. And possibly several dozen rabbits. The point is, nobunny pulls one over on Rex Dexter…and his best friend…and his dead chicken. Nobunny.

Critical Play by Mary Flanagan Pdf

An examination of subversive games like The Sims—games designed for political, aesthetic, and social critique. For many players, games are entertainment, diversion, relaxation, fantasy. But what if certain games were something more than this, providing not only outlets for entertainment but a means for creative expression, instruments for conceptual thinking, or tools for social change? In Critical Play, artist and game designer Mary Flanagan examines alternative games—games that challenge the accepted norms embedded within the gaming industry—and argues that games designed by artists and activists are reshaping everyday game culture. Flanagan provides a lively historical context for critical play through twentieth-century art movements, connecting subversive game design to subversive art: her examples of “playing house” include Dadaist puppet shows and The Sims. She looks at artists’ alternative computer-based games and explores games for change, considering the way activist concerns—including worldwide poverty and AIDS—can be incorporated into game design. Arguing that this kind of conscious practice—which now constitutes the avant-garde of the computer game medium—can inspire new working methods for designers, Flanagan offers a model for designing that will encourage the subversion of popular gaming tropes through new styles of game making, and proposes a theory of alternate game design that focuses on the reworking of contemporary popular game practices.

Elements of Mischief by C. M. Stunich,Tate James Pdf

WARNING: This is a sexy, steamy reverse harem paranormal romance (one girl, four guys) with loads of humor, plumber puns, and group sex. Read with a glass of wine and a smile! Four hunky, supernatural plumbers. One reluctant, slightly drunk human.A match made in heaven ... or in the bathroom, rather. My name is Arizona Smoke, and I'm the proud owner of a house haunted by my dead Gram, best friend to a cocktail dress loving werewolf, and apparent soul mate to four plumbers who also happen to be elemental dragons. Besides rippling pectorals, tattoos, and ... uh, nice, long pipes, the guys also have control of the elements. Supernatural law (whoever heard of such a thing anyway?) dictates that since I stumbled upon the guys in their alternate forms, I have to marry them. All four of them. Oh, and apparently one lousy (okay, awesome) night of sex means that I'm an elemental, too-and no amount of magical penicillin can cure this disease. All I wanted was hot running water and toilets that flushed, but now I'm dealing with monsters lurking in the sewers, supernatural politics, and four penniless (but totally hot) plumbers living in my crumbling old Victorian. I'm Ari Smoke, wine aficionado, ex-barista, and a girl who is completely out of her element.Having four hot husbands is nice ... but the death threats, not so much.
