Historical Sketch of the Jews, Since the Destruction of Jerusalem (Classic Reprint) by Bernhard Pick Pdf

Excerpt from Historical Sketch of the Jews, Since the Destruction of Jerusalem Judaea was a waste, Jerusalem was a heap of ruins. The temple had been consumed by flames, and the third exile - the European - began. Directly after the triumph of Titus, the great Council of the Israelitish Rabbins was established at Tiberias, in Galilee. The school of Scribes, instituted in that city, soon took the place of that temple, whose restoration has never ceased to be the object of their hopes and prayers. The celebrated revolt of Bar-Cochba and Akiba sprung, in great measure, from thence. Tiberias had become a kind of Jerusalem, where the so-called Oral Law was framed. The first idea of such an undertaking is thought by many to have originated with Rabbi Akiba, who was flayed alive in the Bar-Cochba revolt, in 135. History of the Jews by Joseph Robertson Pdf

Excerpt from History of the Jews: From the Babylonish Captivity to the Destruction of Jerusalem So far as was consistent with the continuity of the narrative, I have avoided any encroachment upon that part of the history given in the Scriptures, believing, as I do, that what is contained in that Sacred Book ought to be read there simply as recorded. This continuation, then, is not intended to be put into the hands of classes till after they have completed the books of Kings and Chronicles. Israel and the Gentiles by Isaac da Costa Pdf

Excerpt from Israel and the Gentiles: Contributions to the History of the Jews, From the Earliest Times to the Present Day Ir may, perhaps, not be quite without interest to my English readers to know that I am, by birth, a descendant of one of those Jewish families who, in the seventeenth century, sought refuge in the Netherlands from the persecutions of Spain and Portugal. From my earliest youth the history of my forefathers has been an object of meditation and study; the modern part, especially, first drew my attention, and both my heart and imagination were captivated by the task of exploring the annals of Israel's dispersion and exile. Palestine of the Jews by Norman Bentwich Pdf

Excerpt from Palestine of the Jews: Past, Present, and Future For more than two years I have been far from books and papers, which do not find a place in a marching kit, even with the generous allowance of 50 lbs. Of baggage; and I must crave indulgence on that account for any in accuracies and mistakes. I have made no attempt to be exhaustive in the account of the Jewish settlement, and I have given only my personal experience. To my father I owe it that my pencilled notes have been prepared for publication, with the assistance of my sister and her husband, who were among the colonisers before the war. And I am indebted to the same ready help for the incorporation in the text of references to the more salient later developments, so as to bring the work more nearly up to date.
