History of Nairnshire (Classic Reprint) by George Bain Pdf
Excerpt from History of Nairnshire The Author has availed himself of the materials stored up in the Family Papers of the district, and has reproduced from the Sheriff Court Books and Burgh Records such matters as appeared to be of interest. It was intended to have given some original documents in an Appendix, but the length to which the work has extended has precluded this being done, beyond a list of the Provosts of N airn. To the custodiers of the Official Records and to the gentlemen who gave him access to their books and papers, the Author tenders his grateful thanks. A History of Moray and Nairn (Classic Reprint) by Charles Rampini Pdf
Excerpt from A History of Moray and Nairn In its endeavour to tell the story of the old province of Moray with accuracy, and at the same time in popular language, the present volume follows strictly in the lines of the previous volumes of the series. But it differs from its predecessors in the arrangement adopted. It appeared to the writer that by treating the Province, the Bishopric, the Earldom, &c., as separate subjects, he would be able to lay before the reader a more sharply defined picture of their nature, progress, and influence than if he had employed the more ordinary narrative form. He is far from maintaining that such an arrangement is in all instances the best. But in the case of Moray and Nairn the sequence of events seemed to lend itself to this disposition - the historical importance and interest of the one having, roughly speaking, ceased, or at least begun to wane, before those of the other waxed. The History of the Province of Moray, Vol. 1 of 3 by Lachlan Shaw Pdf
Excerpt from The History of the Province of Moray, Vol. 1 of 3: Comprising the Counties of Elgin and Nairn, the Greater Part of the County of Inverness, and a Portion of the County of Banff I have said it was the misfortune Of the north ern countries that the Romans were so little acquainted with them; for wherever they settled they softened the rough temper and civilised the rude manners Of the natives. They introduced letters, arts, and sciences. They taught agricul ture, and laid the foundations Of cities and towns, navigation and commerce. Hence the many towns and villages on both sides of the Frith of Forth had their rise from the Roman colonies, forts, and naval stations. And the foundation Of the culture and fertility Of the Lothians was laid by their industry; while the western coast, from the Clyde northward, into which the Romans never entered (though better furnished by nature with bays, harbours, and creeks), remained long uncivilised, without towns, trade, or commerce. Nairn's London by Ian Nairn Pdf
TELEGRAPH BOOKS OF THE YEAR and OBSERVER BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2014 'This book is a record of what has moved me between Uxbridge and Dagenham. My hope is that it moves you, too.' Nairn's London is an idiosyncratic, poetic and intensely subjective meditation on a city and its buildings. Including railway stations, synagogues, abandoned gasworks, dock cranes, suburban gardens, East End markets, Hawksmoor churches, a Gothic cinema and twenty-seven different pubs, it is a portrait of the soul of a place, from a writer of genius.

The Kinetic Theory of Gases by Stephen G Brush Pdf
This book introduces physics students and teachers to the historical development of the kinetic theory of gases, by providing a collection of the most important contributions by Clausius, Maxwell and Boltzmann, with introductory surveys explaining their significance. In addition, extracts from the works of Boyle, Newton, Mayer, Joule, Helmholtz, Kelvin and others show the historical context of ideas about gases, energy and irreversibility. In addition to five thematic essays connecting the classical kinetic theory with 20th century topics such as indeterminism and interatomic forces, there is an extensive international bibliography of historical commentaries on kinetic theory, thermodynamics, etc. published in the past four decades. The book will be useful to historians of science who need primary and secondary sources to be conveniently available for their own research and interpretation, along with the bibliography which makes it easier to learn what other historians have already done on this subject. Contents:The Nature of Gases and of Heat (Boyle, Newton, Bernoulli, Gregory, Mayer, Joule, von Helmholtz, Clausius, Maxwell)Irreversible Processes (Maxwell, Boltzmann, Thomson, Poincaré, Zermelo)Historical Discussions by Stephen G BrushA Guide to Historical Commentaries: Kinetic Theory of Gases, Thermodynamics, and Related Topics Readership: Graduate and research students, teachers, lecturers and historians of physics.
