The Call to Holiness by Richard M. Gula Pdf

"The Call to Holiness was inspired by the fundamental conviction that spirituality without morality is disembodied and morality without spirituality is rootless. In other words, our moral life arises out of our spirituality to become its public face. Furthermore, what we do to nurture our spirituality through spiritual practices can and ought to have an effect on our moral practices. In the end, spirituality and morality converge when we consider life as a whole rather than simply focus on individual actions in the moral life or devotional practices in the spiritual life."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. God's Way of Holiness by Horatius Bonar Pdf

The way of peace and the way of holiness lie side by side, or rather, they are one. That which bestows the one imparts the other; and he who takes the one takes the other also. The Spirit of peace is the Spirit of holiness. The God of peace is the God of holiness. If at any time these paths seem to go asunder, there must be something wrong, wrong in the teaching that makes them seem to part company, or wrong in the state of the man in whose life they have done so. They start together, or at least so nearly together that no eye, save the divine, can mark a difference. Yet, properly speaking, the peace goes before the holiness, and is its parent. This is what divines call "priority in nature, though not in time," which means substantially this, that the difference in such almost identical beginnings is too small in point of time to be perceived by us, yet it is not on that account the less distinct and real. The two are not independent. There is fellowship between them, vital fellowship, each being the helpmeet of the other. The fellowship is not of mere coincidence, as in the case of strangers who happen to meet on the same path, nor of arbitrary appointment, as in the case of two parallel roads, but of mutual help and sympathy like the fellowship of head and heart, or of two members of one body, the peace being indispensable to the production or causation of the holiness, and the holiness indispensable to the maintaining and deepening of the peace. Holiness by Grace by Bryan Chapell Pdf

"Be Holy, because I am holy." --1 Peter 1:16How can God expect us to be as holy as he is? Isn't it unrealistic, given that he is infinitely pure and we are clearly imperfect? Such a standard seems either to ignore our frailty or to impose certain failure--until we understand how God views us. Then we are reminded that, thanks to what Christ accomplished on our behalf, our perfection is not the requirement for entering his kingdom. Yet that very grace still calls us to live righteously--for the sake of our well-being, yes, but most of all, because it glorifies God.In this challenging yet heartwarming work, Bryan Chapell illustrates the principles of grace, the practices of faith, and the motives of love in living a life of holiness. You will journey through reassuring Scripture passages that show good works and obedience to be, not a means of establishing or maintaining salvation, but a grateful response to God's mercy. And in Bryan Chapell's encouraging words--drawn straight from the heart of God--you will understand that your holiness is not so much a matter of what you achieve as it is the grace that God provides. A grace so rich as to make the pursuit of his holiness your soul's deepest delight.

Holy Spirit, Holy Living by Antipas L. Harris Pdf

The language of holiness seems outdated. It is a word that comes to us thwarted by a negative history, associated with undesirable restrictions and oppressive legalisms. What do you do with a term that has been negatively socialized, even among churches, when the God of the Bible clearly states that He wants His people to be holy? Holy Spirit, Holy Living aims to dust off the discarded idiom and rediscover the depth and splendor of holiness. What are some practical implications for theological and spiritual practice? Two broad categories express the particularity of the Church in the world. As such the Church must maintain peculiarity to the world. First, holiness properly understood speaks to being and acting in a way that reflects both a regenerated life in Christ and the ongoing renewal in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Secondly, holiness as a lifestyle must include at least three principles: rest, being, and doing. These three standards undergird a life of conviction of faith and practice, worship for God, and service to others. A holy life follows Christ and is Spirit-filled. It is unbent by society, which is numb to what God wants.

Why Holiness Matters by Tyler Braun Pdf

Have we tried so hard to avoid being holier-than-thou that we’ve forgotten how important it is to be holy? Authenticity matters. Transparency matters. Being open about our shortcomings, misgivings, and failures matters. Yet holiness also matters. This book is a timely reminder not to lose the old priorities as we take on the new, albeit noble, ones. Millennial author Tyler Braun helps us understand that holiness is not just some fine ideal destined for generations past; it’s the unyielding pursuit that defines every Christian life. The beginning of our calling toward a holy life is the challenge of loving God more deeply. Holiness is not found in strict rule keeping alone; it is found in our desire of the Holy One. Holiness is not new behaviors. Holiness is new affections.

J.C. Ryle’s Holiness has imparted a standing challenge to Christians for 130 years. In this new, slimmed-down series of excerpts from Ryle’s masterwork, we aim to present his original message to a whole new generation. Having a Successful Life Being Led by the Holy Spirit by Bishop William A. Mitchell Jr. Pdf

The contents of this book will teach people to live victoriously for God. It illustrates and teaches how the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) can use any willing vessel for God’s purpose. It will show you that serving God can turn your nothing into something if you give your life to him. God wants to lead us where he wants us to be and teach us discipline in the process. If the Holy Ghost is leading you, he will always lead you into your next miracle. God raised someone that died in my presence after I laid hands on him. When the Holy Ghost reveals powerful things to you, always believe what he is saying. Stop saying something told me to do this and know it’s the Holy Ghost speaking to you. It will change your life. Don’t be afraid. The Holy Ghost changed the dialect of Bishop Mitchell. God told him he was going to prove to the world that his anointing is upon him. You will read about this in the book. He still speaks with that dialect today. What’s the use of having the Holy Ghost if you’re not going to obey him? The Holy Spirit lets you know how amazing God’s power can be in your life. Prayer is the key, and faith unlocks the door. So many doors were open in this book through prayer and obeying God. God will explain your past, teach you your present, and reveal to you your future through the Holy Ghost. To pastors and leaders who read this book, it will strengthen your ministry, your faith, your church, and your life. If you let the Holy Ghost lead and guide you, you will be successful in God’s kingdom and your life.

The Pursuit of the Holy by Simon Ponsonby Pdf

"Be holy as I am holy," says the Lord. It's the most extravagant--and audacious--invitation ever sent: Or in the words of Jesus: "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." But can that really happen? Is holiness an achievable goal for sinful human beings? That's the ultimate focus of this thoughtful, thorough, and engaging study of what it means to be holy. Drawing on the Bible and Christian thinkers through the ages, Simon Ponsonby affirms that because of God's gracious love and desire for communion with us, he has done what is possible for us not only to pursue holiness, but to achieve it. While we can never count on attaining moral perfection in this life, we need not settle for less than increasing victory over sin. And as more and more Christians choose to partner with God in the ongoing process of sanctification, we set the stage for revival.

The Holiness Manifesto by Kevin W. Mannoia,Don Thorsen Pdf

Does the concept of holiness hold any relevance for Christians in the twenty-first century? Or is it rather a relic of the past, with little to offer in today's postmodern world? The contributors to this book firmly insist that holiness is indeed relevant, no matter the age in which we live. Moreover, it is essential to following Christ in the twenty-first century. The essayists are all members of the Wesleyan Holiness Study Project, a gathering of scholars and leaders who have met since 2004 to explore the mission of the churches of the Holiness movement. The book begins with two compelling ecumenical statements articulating the holiness message for today's church: "The Holiness Manifesto" and "Fresh Eyes on Holiness." These are followed by a dozen penetrating essays grouped in three parts: (1) the understanding of holiness in Scripture, (2) holiness in historical and theological perspective, and (3) holiness in relation to various practical aspects of ministry. The book concludes with appendixes offering five considered descriptions of holiness. The fastest-growing segments of the church worldwide have their roots in the Wesleyan Holiness tradition. Catholic, Orthodox, and other Protestant denominations are discovering its relevance to their own traditions and practices. The Holiness Manifesto offers an ideal overview to those wishing to understand more about this extremely influential movement. Contributors: Jim Adams Barry Callen Lisa L.
