The First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians by William Flewelling Pdf

The Bible studies I chose to do came about in answer to the request from my first congregation out of seminary. I consistently sought to present a serious, somewhat scholarly approach to the interest among my parishioners. I would take a book in the Bible to study, assume it was written or edited to be read from the beginning, and make sense to the reader in that format. I attempted to discover for myself and my group what the book sought to convey. In this volume, the study of 1 Corinthians (198283) followed that pattern exactly.

Returning Home by William J. Webb Pdf

The text of 2 Cor. 6.14-7.1, commonly called the 'fragment', has been the focus of much debate, due largely to its enigmatic presence within the context of 2.14-7.4. This work forges a new line of research on the problem of contextual disruption through an examination of the Old Testament traditions used within the fragment (their source, redactional focus and theology). Next, a similar traditions study is pursued in the current literary context of 2.14-7.4. A surprising degree of continuity between the fragment and its context is discovered in the use of Old Testament traditions, particularly those relating to new covenant and second exodus (exilic return) traditions. From this investigation a contextual hypothesis is proposed, along with a critique of competing contextual theories. The book concludes with two appendices which apply the contextual hypothesis to the crucial interpretative issue in 6.14a. Although the author's contextual hypothesis is not dependent upon any one interpretative solution in 6.14a, it nonetheless offers some fresh insight into the questions of who the 'unbelievers' are and what the 'unequal yoke' is.>

1st and 2nd Thessalonians Paul's Letters to the Churches Affirming the Believer by Practical Christianity Foundation Pdf

Empowering the Church In his second epistle to the Corinthian Church, the apostle Paul empowered the church by affirming that God's strength and power is revealed and works in our weakness. The apostle empowered the church with God's strength after having confronted the immorality, doctrinal confusion and frequent disputes that had become commonplace among the Corinthian believers. Paul's message to this church was simple yet powerful: Consider the values of Christ's redemption and realign your thinking with God's instructions. Although this letter was written to admonish, instruct and encourage the early church, they are just as relevant to us today. This verse-by-verse devotional study, complete with engaging commentary and practical life applications, will challenge you to pursue a closer walk with Jesus Christ and grow in the faith.

1 Corinthians by Dan Nighswander Pdf

Christians in the bustling, diverse city of Corinth in 50 BCE quarreled about how to be faithful to Jesus. In Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, he calls the small band of new believers to unity and cautions against factionalism, themes that pastor Dan Nighswander unpacks for contemporary readers in this thirty-second volume in the Believers Church Bible Commentary series. Any Christians who experience division over loyalty to different leaders, who find it hard to agree on sexual ethics (or to live up to them), and who feel tension between their theological convictions and social context will find common ground with believers in Corinth. Home of the exalted “love chapter,” which roots all Christian action in the greatest gift, 1 Corinthians equips those who follow Jesus to craft true community with other believers, differences notwithstanding. With keen theological, biblical, and pastoral insight, Nighswander illuminates for readers the apostle Paul’s challenge to the Corinthian church and calls Christians today to unity through the reconciling work of Christ. Studies of Paul's Letters to the Corinthians by Dennis Dinger Pdf

The two letters from Paul to the Corinthians address many fundamental issues in a struggling, carnal church. The Corinthian saints needed to hear sound teaching and Paul was the servant God chose to educate them! Paul taught lots of fundamentals in his first letter. In his second, he continued with fundamentals, but he explained more deeply. He described how God's servants think, and how God's people should respond. He also briefly taught about the coming judgments in which all mankind will stand before God to be judged according to their works. Because the Corinthian saints were typical of all believers, the wonderful insights in these two letters are valuable to all God's children!
