Hope for Democracy by John Gastil,Katherine Knobloch Pdf

Concerned citizens across the globe fear that democratic institutions are failing them. Citizens feel shut out of politics and worry that politicians are no longer responsive to their interests. In Hope for Democracy, John Gastil and Katherine R. Knobloch introduce new tools for tamping down hyper-partisanship and placing citizens at the heart of the democratic process. They showcase the Citizens' Initiative Review, which convenes a demographically-balanced random sample of citizens to study statewide ballot measures. Citizen panelists interrogate advocates, opponents, and experts, then write an analysis that distills their findings for voters. Gastil and Knobloch reveal how this process has helped voters better understand the policy issues placed on their ballots. Placed in the larger context of deliberative democratic reforms, Hope for Democracy shows how citizens and public officials can work together to bring more rationality and empathy into modern politics.

The Lion and the Queen I Hope to Be.... by Cindy Gilbert Pdf

In life we are given several opportunities to get closer to our Dad. In this story I describe how my story is like that of the Lion and the King, a story told in India. A king is told that he will be killed and going to hell and out of his fear he tries to come up with a solution. The King finds out that if he is injured the lion who is a symbol of the devil will not kill him because the lion will not kill its prey if it is already injured. The King then decides to injure himself and therefore he will no longer fall victim to the lion because the lion likes a challenge, and the King is no longer a challenge since it is injured. The injured King then seeks to find comfort to his pain and his pain causes him to seek his creator who can heal all vessels and direct them in the righteous path or destroy the body and the soul on a lake of fire. When the King approaches his creator his creator has sympathy for him and restores him and shows him the righteous path to stay away from the Lion’ therefore giving him an opportunity to be a part of the royal family in heaven. The situation of the Lion and the King is like mine because I became injured and through my injuries came to find refuge in my Dad who is also my creator. In this book I describe in haiku, free style poetry and short stories how the Lion was out to get me, and my injury saved me causing me to get closer to my Lord and Savior also known as my Dad. This story that you are about to read is about me a child of God who received refuge and healing through our higher power.

Dark Hope by David Shulman Pdf

For decades, we've been shocked by images of violent clashes between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. But for all their power, those images leave us at a loss: from our vantage at home, it's hard for us to imagine the struggles of those living in the midst of the fighting. Now, American - born Israeli David Shulman takes us right into the heart of the conflict with Dark Hope, an eye - opening chronicle of his work as a member of the peace group Ta'ayush, which takes its name from the Arabic for ''living together.'' With Dark Hope, Shulman has written a book of deep moral searching, an attempt to discover how his beloved Israel went wrong - - and how, through acts of compassionate disobedience, it might still be brought back.

More in Hope Than Glory by Chris Dunphy Pdf

Football is a game that is loved throughout the world at every level. It’s a game that is all-encompassing whether it be the enjoyment of a kick about in the local park or the magnificent spectacle of a World Cup final. Well, this is a football story that lies somewhere between those two extremes, and to be honest more towards the bottom end of the spectrum. This is a light-hearted true story of a young lad who used to walk four miles to the ground of the team he loved for every home game, and then grew up to become its chairman. It tells of the many highs and even more lows of running a lower league football club. It recounts the hopes and aspirations of every football supporter, followed by the inevitable kick-in-the-stomach feeling when it all falls down. It’s about love and passion for football in a proud northern town. More in Hope Than Glory is the story of how what was once regarded as one of the most unsuccessful league football teams suddenly and dramatically became a little less unsuccessful.
